Enhanced long-lived dark photon signals at lifetime frontier detectors

Long-lived particles that are present in many new physics models beyond the standard model, can be searched for in a number of newly proposed lifetime frontier experiments at the LHC. The signals of the long-lived dark photons can be significantly enhanced in a new dark photon model in which dark photons are copiously produced in the hidden radiation process. We investigate the capability of various lifetime frontier detectors in probing the parameter space of this model, including the far forward detectors FACET and FASER, the far transverse detector MATHUSLA, and the precision timing detector CMS-MTD. We find that the accessible parameter space is significantly enlarged by the hidden radiation process so that FACET, MATHUSLA, and CMS-MTD can probe a much larger parameter space than the so-called minimal model. The parameter space probed by FACET is found to be much larger than FASER, which is largely due to the fact that the former has a larger decay volume and is closer to the interaction point. There also exists some parameter space that can be probed both by the far detectors and by precision timing detectors, so that different experiments can be complementary to each other. A brief overview of the lifetime frontier detectors is also given.

Enhanced Long-Lived Dark Photon Signals at the LHC

We construct a model in which the standard model is extended by a hidden sector with two gauge $U(1)$ bosons. A Dirac fermion $ψ$ charged under both $U(1)$ fields is introduced in the hidden sector which can be a subcomponent of the dark matter in the Universe. Stueckelberg mass terms between the two new gauge $U(1)$ fields and the hypercharge gauge boson mediate the interactions between the standard model sector and the hidden sector. A remarkable collider signature of this model is the enhanced long-lived dark photon events at the LHC than the conventional dark photon models; the long-lived dark photons in the model can be discriminated from the background by measuring the time delay signal in the precision timing detectors which are proposed to be installed in the LHC upgrades and have an ${\cal O} (10)$ pico-second detection efficiency. Searches with current LHCb data are also investigated. Various experimental constraints on the model including collider constraints and cosmological constraints are also discussed.

CDF W mass anomaly from a dark sector with a Stueckelberg-Higgs portal

We propose an explanation to the new W mass measurement recently reported by the CDF collaboration, which is larger than the standard model expectation by about 7 standard deviations. To alleviate the tensions that are imposed on the electroweak sector by the new W mass measurement, we carry out an analysis in the Stueckelberg extended standard model where a new neutral gauge boson appears which mixes with the two neutral gauge bosons in the electroweak sector both via the Stueckelberg mass terms and via the gauge invariant Stueckelberg-Higgs portal interaction and spoils the custodial symmetry at the tree level so that the simple relation between the W boson mass and the Z boson mass does not hold. We find that such an extension increases the W boson mass if the new gauge boson mass is larger than the Z boson mass. We further show that there exists a significant part of the parameter space in the extended model which includes the CDF mass anomaly and is consistent with the various observables at the Z pole and consistent with the ATLAS dilepton limits. The Stueckelberg $Z'_{\rm St}$ boson, which resolves the CDF W mass anomaly, should be searchable in future LHC experiments.

Unleashing the full power of LHCb to probe Stealth New Physics

In this paper, we describe the potential of the LHCb experiment to detect Stealth physics. This refers to dynamics beyond the Standard Model that would elude searches that focus on energetic objects or precision measurements of known processes. Stealth signatures include long-lived particles and light resonances that are produced very rarely or together with overwhelming backgrounds. We will discuss why LHCb is equipped to discover this kind of physics at the Large Hadron Collider and provide examples of well-motivated theoretical models that can be probed with great detail at the experiment.

A vector leptoquark interpretation of the muon $g-2$ and $B$ anomalies

We show that a single vector leptoquark can explain both the muon $g-2$ anomaly recently measured by the Muon g-2 experiment at Fermilab, and the various $B$ decay anomalies, including the $R_{D^{(*)}}$ and $R_{K^{(*)}}$ anomalies which have been recently reported by the LHCb experiment. In order to provide sizeable positive new physics contributions to the muon $g-2$, we assume that the vector leptoquark particle couples to both left-handed and right-handed fermions with equal strength. Our model is found to satisfy the experimental constraints from the large hadron collider.

Learning Invariant Representations across Domains and Tasks

Being expensive and time-consuming to collect massive COVID-19 image samples to train deep classification models, transfer learning is a promising approach by transferring knowledge from the abundant typical pneumonia datasets for COVID-19 image classification. However, negative transfer may deteriorate the performance due to the feature distribution divergence between two datasets and task semantic difference in diagnosing pneumonia and COVID-19 that rely on different characteristics. It is even more challenging when the target dataset has no labels available, i.e., unsupervised task transfer learning. In this paper, we propose a novel Task Adaptation Network (TAN) to solve this unsupervised task transfer problem. In addition to learning transferable features via domain-adversarial training, we propose a novel task semantic adaptor that uses the learning-to-learn strategy to adapt the task semantics. Experiments on three public COVID-19 datasets demonstrate that our proposed method achieves superior performance. Especially on COVID-DA dataset, TAN significantly increases the recall and F1 score by 5.0% and 7.8% compared to recently strong baselines. Moreover, we show that TAN also achieves superior performance on several public domain adaptation benchmarks.

On-shell mediator dark matter models and the Xenon1T anomaly

We present a dark matter model to explain the excess events in the electron recoil data recently reported by the Xenon1T experiment. In our model, dark matter $χ$ annihilates into a pair of on-shell particles $ϕ$ which subsequently decay into $ψψ$ final state; $ψ$ interacts with electron to generate the observed excess events. Due to the mass hierarchy, the velocity of $ψ$ can be rather large and can have an extended distribution, which provides a good fit to the electron recoil energy spectrum. We estimated the flux of $ψ$ from dark matter annihilations in the galaxy and further determined the interaction cross section which is sizable but small enough to allow $ψ$ to penetrate the rocks to reach the underground labs.

FullSWOF: A software for overland flow simulation / FullSWOF : un logiciel pour la simulation du ruissellement

Overland flow on agricultural fields may have some undesirable effects such as soil erosion, flood and pollutant transport. To better understand this phenomenon and limit its consequences, we developed a code using state-of-the-art numerical methods: FullSWOF (Full Shallow Water equations for Overland Flow), an object oriented code written in C++. It has been made open-source and can be downloaded from http://www.univ-orleans.fr/mapmo/soft/FullSWOF/. The model is based on the classical system of Shallow Water (SW) (or Saint-Venant system). Numerical difficulties come from the numerous dry/wet transitions and the highly-variable topography encountered inside a field. It includes runon and rainfall inputs, infiltration (modified Green-Ampt equation), friction (Darcy-Weisbach and Manning formulas). First we present the numerical method for the resolution of the Shallow Water equations integrated in FullSWOF_2D (the two-dimension version). This method is based on hydrostatic reconstruction scheme, coupled with a semi-implicit friction term treatment. FullSWOF_2D has been previously validated using analytical solutions from the SWASHES library (Shallow Water Analytic Solutions for Hydraulic and Environmental Studies). Finally, FullSWOF_2D is run on a real topography measured on a runoff plot located in Thies (Senegal). Simulation results are compared with measured data. This experimental benchmark demonstrate the capabilities of FullSWOF to simulate adequately overland flow. FullSWOF could also be used for other environmental issues, such as river floods and dam-breaks.
