Photonic state engineering via energy-level crossing by giant atoms in topological waveguide QED setup

Photonic state engineering in waveguide QED is typically based on local light-matter interactions. This limits its control over the spatial structure of bound photonic states. Here, we demonstrate a distinct mechanism arising from the interplay between nonlocal giant-atom coupling and topological band structure. Specifically, we consider giant atoms coupled to a Su-Schrieffer-Heeger waveguide and show that this configuration enables a controllable energy-level crossing protected by the topological gap. Adiabatically sweeping the atomic detuning across the crossing leads to a controlled exchange between distinct photonic bound states. In a two-giant-atom configuration, this mechanism achieves high-fidelity conversion of a spatially splitting state into a combining state. Extending this scheme to three-giant atoms, we further realize robust, shape-preserving photon transfer mediated by sequential in-gap crossings. Our results demonstrate how topology and nonlocal light-matter coupling can be combined to achieve programmable control of bound photonic states in waveguide QED platforms.

Liouvillian gap closing--bound states in the continuum connection and diverse dynamics in a giant-atom waveguide QED setup

In open quantum systems, reduced dynamics is commonly described by a master equation, whose Liouvillian gap closing (LGC) typically signals the emergence of decoherence-free subspace. By contrast, the dynamics of the full system-environment compound is governed by the underlying Hamiltonian spectrum, where bound states in the continuum (BICs) can protect long-lived quantum resources. Despite these parallel perspectives, the relation between LGC and BIC formation has remained largely unexplored. Here we bridge this gap in a paradigmatic giant-atom waveguide platform and show that the occurrence of LGC necessarily benchmarks the presence of a BIC in the full Hamiltonian description. By engineering the giant-atom geometry, we further demonstrate rich dynamical regimes-including Rabi oscillations, fractional decay, and complete exponential relaxation-depending on the number of supported BICs, which can be tuned from three to zero. Remarkably, when two BICs become frequency-degenerate, the long-time dynamics approaches a steady state rather than exhibiting persistent oscillations. Our results establish a direct spectral-dynamical connection between effective Markovian and underlying non-Markovian descriptions, and provide a route toward flexible control of open-system dynamics.

Bound state in the continuum and multiple atom state transfer applications in a waveguide QED setup

Bound states in the continuum (BICs) have been extensively exploited to enhance light--matter interactions in metamaterials, yet their emergence and utility in multi-atom waveguide platforms remain far less explored. Here we study atom--waveguide-dressed BICs in a one-dimensional coupled-resonator waveguide, where two spatially separated atomic arrays couple to distinct resonators with time-dependent strengths. We show that these BICs support a standing-wave photonic mode and enable the transfer of an arbitrary unknown quantum state between the two arrays with fidelities exceeding $99\%$. The protocol remains robust against both disorder and intrinsic dissipation. Our results establish BICs as long-lived resources for high-fidelity quantum information processing in waveguide-QED architectures.

High-fidelity Generation of Bell and W States in Giant Atom System via Bound State in the Continuum

In this paper, we propose a high-fidelity scheme for generating entangled states in a system of two and three giant atoms coupled to the coupled resonator waveguide. Our approach leverages the bound state in the continuum, which is robust against waveguide disorder. Specifically, we achieve a fidelity exceeding $98\%$ for Bell state generation, overcoming the limitations of conventional decoherence-free interaction mechanisms. This scheme can be readily extended to a three-giant-atom system for generating W states. In both the two- and three-atom setups, the maximally entangled states are generated in a short time and remain stable even as time approaches infinity. Our proposal is feasible for implementation on state-of-the-art solid-state quantum platforms and significantly broadens the applications of giant atoms and waveguide QED system in quantum information processing.

Bound states and atomic interaction in giant atom waveguide QED with dispersive coupling

In this paper, we investigate the bound states and the effective interaction between a pair of giant atoms, which couples to the coupled resonator waveguide in a nested configuration. To suppress the harmful individual and collective dissipations to the waveguide, we consider the dispersive coupling scheme, where the frequency of the giant atoms are far away from the propagating band of the waveguide. In our scheme, the atomic interaction can be induced by the overlap between the bound states in the gap. We demonstrate the relative position dependent atomic coupling and explore its application in the state transfer. We find that the transfer fidelity of a superposition state can approach $0.999$. Therefore, our scheme is useful for designing robust quantum information processing.

Interaction and entanglement engineering in driven giant atoms setup with coupled resonator waveguide

We investigate the coherent interactions mediated by the coupled resonator waveguide between two types of giant atoms. We find that the effective coupling and collective dissipation can be controlled on demand by adjusting the configuration of the giant atoms. As a result, the external driving gives birth to a substantial entanglement between two giant atoms, which exhibits a Rabi splitting character. {In the three giant atom setup, we find that the nonzero next neighbour atomic entanglement can surpass the neighbour ones, and is able to be adjust by tuning the driving phase, which serves as an artificial magnetic field. The enhancement of next neighbour atomic entanglement can not be realized in the small atom setup.} We hope these controllable interactions in giant atom array are of great applications in the quantum information process.

Witness of topological phase transition and Weyl points in an open topological system

Recently, the tunable Weyl-semimetal bands and the associate topological phase transition have been successfully simulated in superconducting quantum circuits [X. Tan, \textit{et al.} Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 122}, 010501 (2019)]. Since the superconducting quantum circuits inevitably couple to the environment, we here focus on the steady state and decoherence process by taking the reservoir into consideration via quantum master equation. Our results show that the purity of the steady state can be used to indicate the topological phase transition and Weyl points. Furthermore, the coherence will exponentially decay to zero at the Weyl points, and decay to a nonzero value with oscillation at other points in the momentum space. Our work may have significant impact on the study of quantum open topological system.

Vibration induced transparency: Simulating an optomechanical system via the cavity QED setup with a movable atom

We simulate an optomechanical system via a cavity QED scenario with a movable atom and investigate its application in the tiny mass sensing. We find that the steady-state solution of the system exhibits a multiple stability behavior, which is similar to that in the optomechanical system. We explain this phenomenon by the opto-mechanical interaction term in the effective Hamiltonian. Due to the dressed states formed by the effective coupling between the vibration degree of the atom and the optical mode in the cavity, we observe a narrow transparent window in the output field. We utilize this vibration induced transparency phenomenon to perform the tiny mass sensing. We hope our study will broaden the application of the cavity QED system to quantum technologies.

Exact solvability and two-frequency Rabi oscillation in cavity-QED setup with moving emitter

In this paper, we investigate the energy spectrum and coherent dynamical process in a cavity-QED setup with a moving emitter, which is subject to a harmonic potential. We find that the vibration of the emitter will induce the effective Kerr and optomechanical interactions. We generalize the Bogliubov operators approach which dealt with quantum Rabi model, to our cavity-emitter-vibration system and obtain the energy spectrum exactly. With the assistance of Bogliubov operators approach, we obtain the energy spectrum of the system exactly. Furthermore, we show that the dynamics of the system exhibit a two-frequency Rabi oscillation behavior. We explain such behavior by optomechanical interaction induced quantum transition between emitter-cavity dressed states. We hope that the interaction between cavity mode and moving emitter will provide a versatile platform to explore more exotic effects and potential applications in cavity-QED scenario.
