SMEFT everywhere: a NLO study of $\boldsymbol{pp \to t\bar{t}H}$ with decaying tops

We present the computation of the next-to-leading order QCD corrections to the $pp\to t\bar{t} H+X$ process in the di-lepton channel at the LHC, including relevant dimension-6 operators $({\cal O}_{t\phi}, \, {\cal O}_{\phi G},\, {\cal O}_{tG}, \, {\cal O}_{tW})$ from the Standard Model Effective Field Theory. In our studies, higher-order corrections and effective operators are consistently included in the production part of the process as well as in the top-quark decays. We perform a detailed study of linear, cross, and quadratic contributions and their uncertainties, including renormalisation group effects. Our findings are presented at the integrated and differential cross-section level for the LHC Run III center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=13.6$ TeV. Finally, we provide predictions for $pp\to t\bar{t} H+X$ with stable top quarks and compare them with the results in which top quarks are reconstructed from their decay products. We show that kinematic cuts, as well as higher-order effects and SMEFT operators in top-quark decays, are important and should be consistently considered together, because they have a significant impact on the shape of the standard observables measured for the $pp\to t\bar{t}H+X$ process at the LHC.

Off-shell $t\bar{t}W^+j$ production at NLO QCD accuracy

We report on our recent full off-shell $pp \rightarrow t\bar{t}W^+ j+X$ calculation at the NLO level in QCD. Unstable resonant particles like the $W^\pm/Z$ vector bosons and top quarks are modelled with Breit-Wigner propagators. Furthermore double-, single- and non-resonant contributions as well as all their interference terms are consistently included at the matrix element level. We provide integrated and differential (fiducial) cross-section results and investigate the size of theoretical uncertainties as well as the impact of renormalization- and factorization scale settings on the theoretical predictions. Finally, we explore the effects of additional jet activity in $t\bar{t}W^+$ production and top-quark decays.

NLO QCD predictions for off-shell $t\bar{t}W$ production in association with a light jet at the LHC

In view of the persisting tension between theoretical predictions and the LHC data for the $pp \to t\bar{t}W^\pm$ production process, we present the state-of-the-art full off-shell NLO QCD result for $pp \to t\bar{t}W^+\, j+X$. We concentrate on the multi-lepton decay channel at the LHC with $\sqrt{s}= 13$ TeV. In our calculation off-shell top quarks and gauge bosons are described by Breit-Wigner propagators, furthermore, double-, single- as well as non-resonant top-quark contributions along with all interference effects are consistently incorporated at the matrix element level. We present results for both integrated and differential fiducial cross sections for various renormalisation and factorisation scale settings and different PDF sets. With a fairly inclusive choice of cuts and regardless of the scale and PDF choice, non-flat differential ${\cal K}$-factors are obtained for many observables that we have examined. Since from an experimental point of view, both processes $pp \to t\bar{t}W^\pm j+X$ and $pp\to t\bar{t}W^\pm +X$ consist of similar final states we investigate the effect of additional jet activity on the integrated and differential fiducial cross sections. For this purpose, the normalised differential distributions for $pp \to e^+\nu_e\, \mu^-\bar{\nu}_\mu\, \tau^+\nu_\tau\, b\bar{b} \,j+X$ and $pp \to e^+\nu_e\, \mu^-\bar{\nu}_\mu\, \tau^+\nu_\tau\, b\bar{b} +X$ are compared. The theoretical results for the latter process are also recalculated.
