Primordial blackhole formation: Exploring chaotic potential with a sharp step via the GLMS perspective

A sharp step on a chaotic potential can enhance primordial curvature fluctuations on smaller scales to the $\mathcal{O}(10^{-2})$ to form primordial black holes (PBHs). The present study discusses an inflationary potential with a sharp step that results in the formation of PBHs in four distinct mass ranges. Also this inflationary model allows the separate consideration of observable parameters $n_s$ and $r$ on the CMB scale from the physics at small scales, where PBHs formation occur. In this work we computed the fractional abundance of PBHs ($f_{PBH}$) using the GLMS approximation of peak theory and also the Press-Schechter (PS) formalism. In the two typical mass windows, $10^{-13}M_\odot$ and $10^{-11}M_\odot$, $f_{PBH}$ calculated using the GLMS approximation is nearly equal to 1 and that calculated via PS is of $10^{-3}$. In the other two mass windows $1M_\odot$ and $6M_\odot$, $f_{PBH}$ obtained using GLMS approximation is 0.01 and 0.001 respectively, while $f_{PBH}$ calculated via PS formalism yields $10^{-5}$ and $10^{-6}$. The results obtained via GLMS approximation are found to be consistent with observational constraints. A comparative analysis of $f_{PBH}$ obtained using the GLMS perspective and the PS formalism is also included.

Gravitational wave production after inflation for a hybrid inflationary model

We discuss a cosmological scenario with a stochastic background of gravitational waves sourced by the tensor perturbation due to a hybrid inflationary model with cubic potential. The tensor-to-scalar ratio for the present hybrid inflationary model is obtained as $r \approx 0.0006$. Gravitational wave spectrum of this stochastic background, for large-scale CMB modes, $10^{-4}Mpc^{-1}$ to $1Mpc^{-1}$ is studied. The present-day energy spectrum of gravitational waves $\Omega_0^{gw}(f)$ is sensitively related to the tensor power spectrum and r which is, in turn, dependent on the unknown physics of the early cosmos. This uncertainty is characterized by two parameters: $\hat{n_t}(f)$ logarithmic average over the primordial tensor spectral index and $\hat{w}(f)$ logarithmic average over the effective equation of state parameter. Thus, exact constraints in the $\hat{w}(f)$, $\hat{n_t}(f)$ plane can be obtained by comparing theoretical constraints of our model on r and $\Omega_0^{gw}(f)$. We obtain a limit on $\hat{w}(10^{-15}Hz)$<$0.33$ around the modes probed by CMB scales.

Evolutionary optimization of cosmological parameters using metropolis acceptance criterion

A novel evolutionary method is introduced that can be used for constraining the parameters and theoretical models of Cosmology. The newly proposed algorithm, which is inherently parallel by design, is able to obtain the full potential of multi-core machines. With this algorithm, we could obtain the best-fit parameters of the $\Lambda CDM$ cosmological model as well as the uncertainties and identify the discrepancy in the Hubble parameter $H_0$. In the present work we discuss the design principle of this novel approach and also the results from the analysis of Pantheon, OHD and Planck datasets are reported here. The estimation of parameters shows significant consistency with the previously reported values as well as a higher computational performance measured in number iterations compared to the other similar exercises.

Ringing Non-Gaussianity from inflation with a step in the second derivative of the potential

Inflationary model driven by a scalar field whose potential has a step in the second derivative with respect to the field is considered. For the best fit potential parameter values, the 3-point function and the non-Gaussianity associated with the featured model is calculated. We study the shape and scale dependence of the 3-point function. The distinctive feature of this model is its characteristic ringing behaviour of $f_{NL}$. We can see that the oscillations in $f_{NL}$ in this model last for a much longer range of k values, as compared to the previously studied models. In that sense, this model is potentially distinguishable from models with other features in the potential.

Constraints on Tensor to Scalar Ratio using WKB Approximation

Using Wenzel-Kramers-Brillouin (WKB) approximation the scalar and tensor power spectra are obtained. Scale invariant spectra are obtained and the spectral indices come very close to the observed data from WMAP and Planck experiments. The advantage of this method is that, it is valid even when slow-roll approximation fails. Constraints on the tensor to scalar ratio r is also studied with the WKB Approximation. We use the Power law inflation as the base model as it allows comparison with exact results.

Estimation of Inflation parameters for Perturbed Power Law model using recent CMB measurements

Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) is an important probe for understanding the inflationary era of the Universe. We consider the Perturbed Power Law (PPL) model of inflation which is a soft deviation from Power Law (PL) inflationary model. This model captures the effect of higher order derivative of Hubble parameter during inflation, which in turn leads to a non-zero effective mass $m_{\rm eff}$ for the inflaton field. The higher order derivatives of Hubble parameter at leading order sources constant difference in the spectral index for scalar and tensor perturbation going beyond PL model of inflation. PPL model have two observable independent parameters, namely spectral index for tensor perturbation $ν_t$ and change in spectral index for scalar perturbation $ν_{st}$ to explain the observed features in the scalar and tensor power spectrum of perturbation. From the recent measurements of CMB power spectra by WMAP, Planck and BICEP-2 for temperature and polarization, we estimate the feasibility of PPL model with standard $Λ$CDM model. Although BICEP-2 claimed a detection of $r=0.2$, estimates of dust contamination provided by Planck have left open the possibility that only upper bound on $r$ will be expected in a joint analysis. As a result we consider different upper bounds on the value of $r$ and show that PPL model can explain a lower value of tensor to scalar ratio ($r<0.1$ or $r<0.01$) for a scalar spectral index of $n_s=0.96$ by having a non-zero value of effective mass of the inflaton field $\frac{m^2_{\rm eff}}{H^2}$. The analysis with WP+ Planck likelihood shows a non-zero detection of $\frac{m^2_{\rm eff}}{H^2}$ with $5.7\,σ$ and $8.1\,σ$ respectively for $r<0.1$ and $r<0.01$. Whereas, with BICEP-2 likelihood $\frac{m^2_{\rm eff}}{H^2} = -0.0237 \pm 0.0135$ which is consistent with zero.

Perturbed Power-law parameters from WMAP7

We present a perturbative approach for studying inflation models with soft departures from scale free spectra of the power law model. In the perturbed power law (PPL) approach one obtains at the leading order both the scalar and tensor power spectra with the running of their spectral indices, in contrast to the widely used slow roll expansion. The PPL spectrum is confronted data and we show that the PPL parameters are well estimated from WMAP-7 data.

Is a step in the primordial spectral index favored by CMB data ?

A sudden small change in the second derivative of the inflaton potential can result in a universal local feature in the spectrum of primordial perturbations generated during inflation. The exact solution describing this feature \cite{minu} is characterized by a step in the spectral index modulated by characteristic oscillations and results in a large running of the spectral index localized over a few e-folds of scale. In this paper we confront this step-like feature with the 5 year WMAP results and demonstrate that it provides a better fit to this data than a featureless initial spectrum. If such a feature exists at all, then it should lie at sufficiently large scales $k_0 \lesssim 0.003 {\rm Mpc}^{-1}$ corresponding to $l \lesssim 40$. The sign of the effect is shown to correspond to the negative running of $n_s$ localized near this scale. This feature could arise as a result of a `mini-waterfall'-type fast second order phase transition experienced by an auxiliary heavy field during inflation, in a model similar to hybrid inflation (though for a different choice of parameters). If this is the case, then the auxiliary field should be positively coupled to the inflaton.

New Universal Local Feature in the Inflationary Perturbation Spectrum

A model is developed in which the inflaton potential experiences a sudden small change in its second derivative (the effective mass of the inflaton). An exact treatment demonstrates that the resulting density perturbation has a quasi-flat power spectrum with a break in its slope (a step in n_s). The step in the spectral index is modulated by characteristic oscillations and results in large running of the spectral index localised over a few e-folds of scales. A field-theoretic model giving rise to such behaviour of the inflationary potential is based on a fast phase transition experienced by a second scalar field weakly coupled to the inflaton. Such a transition is similar to that which terminates inflation in the hybrid inflationary scenario. This scenario suggests that the observed running of the spectral index in the WMAP data may be caused by a fast second order phase transition which occurred during inflation.

Inflationary Hubble Parameter from the Gravitational Wave Spectrum in the General Slow-roll Approximation

Improved general slow-roll formulae giving the primordial gravitational wave spectrum are derived in the present work. Also the first and second order general slow-roll inverse formulae giving the Hubble parameter $H$ in terms of the gravitational wave spectrum are derived. Moreover, the general slow-roll consistency condition relating the scalar and tensor spectra is obtained.

From the Spectrum to Inflation : An Inverse Formula for the General Slow-Roll Spectrum

We propose a general inverse formula for extracting inflationary parameters from the observed power spectrum of cosmological perturbations. Under the general slow-roll scheme, which helps to probe the properties of inflation in a model independent way, we invert the leading order, single field, power spectrum formula. We also give some physically interesting examples to demonstrate its wide applicability and illuminate its properties.

Phase transitions and bubble nucleations for a phi^6 model in curved spacetime

Condsidering a massive self-interacting phi ^6 scalar field coupled arbitrarily to a (2+1) dimensional Bianchi type-I spacetime, we evaluate the one-loop effective potential. It is found that phi ^6 potential can be regularized in (2+1) dimensional curved spacetime. A finite expression for the energy-momentum tensor is obtained for this model. Evaluating the finite temperature effective potential, the temperature dependence of phase transitions is studied. The crucial dependence of the phase transitions on the spacetime curvature and on the coupling to gravity are also verified. We also discuss the nucleation of bubbles in a phi ^6 model. It is found that there exists an exact solution for the damped motion of the bubble in the thin wall regime.

First Order Phase Transitions in a Bianchi type-I universe

Considering the theory of induced gravity coupled to matter fields, taking the $ϕ^6$ interaction potential model we evaluate the one-loop effective potential in a (3+1)dimensional Bianchi type-I spacetime. It is proved that the $ϕ^6$ theory can be regularised in (3+1)dimensional curved spacetime. We evaluate the finite temperature effective potential and study the temperature dependence of phase transitions. The nature of phase transitions in the early universe is clarified to be of first order. The effects of spacetime curvature and arbitrary field coupling on the phase transitions in the early universe are also discussed.
