RS-Coded Adaptive Dynamic Network for Reliable Long-Term Information Transmission in Disturbed Multimode Fiber

Multimode fiber (MMF), due to its large core diameter and high mode capacity, holds potential in high-speed communications. However, inherent modal dispersion causes output speckle distortion, and transmission characteristics are sensitive to environmental disturbances, limiting its reliable application. Conventional transmission matrix (TM) methods face challenges such as complex calibration and environmental sensitivity. Although current deep learning approaches demonstrate reconstruction potential, they struggle to overcome error accumulation caused by fiber mode drift and lack sufficient environmental adaptability. To address this, the present study proposes an adaptive transmission framework named Residual Reed-Solomon Dynamic Network (RRSDN), which integrates Reed-Solomon (RS) error correction coding with deep residual learning forming a closed-loop system that jointly optimizes encoding, transmission, and reconstruction, to tackle the key challenges of mode instability and error accumulation in dynamic scattering channels. Experimentally, high-fidelity real-time transmission of a 16*16 pixel video stream (H.265 compressed) with zero frame loss and 100% symbol accuracy was achieved under conditions of a 100-meter MMF with manually applied disturbances and no temperature control. This work proposes a solution for stable optical transmission in complex channels. Plus, it integrates error correction coding with neural network training, laying the foundation for adaptive optical systems in longer-distance and more complex scenarios.

Flexible single multimode fiber imaging using white LED

Multimode fiber (MMF) has been proven to have good potential in imaging and optical communication because of its advantages of small diameter and large mode numbers. However, due to the mode coupling and modal dispersion, it is very sensitive to environmental changes. Minor changes in the fiber shape can lead to difficulties in information reconstruction. Here, white LED and cascaded Unet are used to achieve MMF imaging to eliminate the effect of fiber perturbations. The output speckle patterns in three different color channels of the CCD camera produced by transferring images through the MMF are concatenated and inputted into the cascaded Unet using channel stitching technology to improve the reconstruction effects. The average Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) of the reconstructed images from the Fashion-MINIST dataset is 0.83. In order to check the flexibility of such a system, perturbation tests on the image reconstruction capability by changing the fiber shapes are conducted. The experimental results show that the MMF imaging system has good robustness properties, i. e. the average PCC remains 0.83 even after completely changing the shape of the MMF. This research potentially provides a flexible approach for the practical application of MMF imaging.

Intelligent mode-locked NPR fiber laser based on laser speckle characteristics

Passively mode-locked fiber lasers based on nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) have been widely used due to their ability to produce short pulses with high peak power and broad spectrum. Nevertheless, environmental disturbances can disrupt the mode-locked state, making it a challenge for practical implementation. Therefore, scientists have proposed mode-locked NPR lasers assisted with artificial intelligence, which can effectively address the issues related to mode-locking stability. Speckle patterns containing spectral information can be generated when the laser transmitting through a scattering medium, which can be served as indicators of the mode-locked state. The contrast of the Tamura texture feature of the speckle patterns exhibits periodic "V" shaped variations with respect to the rotation angles of the waveplates, according to experimental results. The stable mode-locking region is confined to the area close to the minimum contrast. Based on these characteristics, an intelligent approach employing a modified gradient algorithm to identify the region of minimum speckle contrast for achieving mode-locked state. The average number of iterations needed to achieve initial mode-locking and recover mode-locking are about 20 and 10, respectively. Once the mode-locking is achieved, the neural network can be employed to distinguish single-pulse or multi-pulses outputs based on the speckle pattern, thereby enabling intelligent stable mode-locked single-pulse genration from the NPR fiber laser.

NetSecCC: A Scalable and Fault-tolerant Architecture without Outsourcing Cloud Network Security

Modern cloud computing platforms based on virtual machine monitors carry a variety of complex business that present many network security vulnerabilities. At present, the traditional architecture employs a number of security devices at front-end of cloud computing to protect its network security. Under the new environment, however, this approach can not meet the needs of cloud security. New cloud security vendors and academia also made great efforts to solve network security of cloud computing, unfortunately, they also cannot provide a perfect and effective method to solve this problem. We introduce a novel network security architecture for cloud computing (NetSecCC) that addresses this problem. NetSecCC not only provides an effective solution for network security issues of cloud computing, but also greatly improves in scalability, fault-tolerant, resource utilization, etc. We have implemented a proof-of-concept prototype about NetSecCC and proved by experiments that NetSecCC is an effective architecture with minimal performance overhead that can be applied to the extensive practical promotion in cloud computing.
