Pointed Hopf Algebras of Discrete Corepresentation Type

We classify pointed Hopf algebras of discrete corepresentation type over an algebraically closed field K with characteristic zero. For such algebras $H$, we explicitly determine the algebra structure up to isomorphism for the link indecomposable component $B$ containing the unit. It turns out that $H$ is a crossed product of $B$ and a certain group algebra.

On the Hopf algebra of multi-complexes

We introduce a general class of combinatorial objects, which we call \emph{multi-complexes}, which simultaneously generalizes graphs, multigraphs, hypergraphs and simplicial and delta complexes. We introduce a natural algebra of multi-complexes which is defined as the algebra which has a formal basis $\mathcal{C}$ of all isomorphism types of multi-complexes, and multiplication is to take the disjoint union. This is a Hopf algebra with an operation encoding the dissasembly information for such objects, and extends the Hopf algebra of graphs. In our main result, we explicitly describe here the structure of this Hopf algebra of multi-complexes $H$. We find an explicit basis $\mathcal{B}$ of the space of primitives, which is of combinatorial relevance: it is such that each multi-complex is a polynomial with non-negative integer coefficients of the elements of $\mathcal{B}$, and each $b\in\mathcal{B}$ is a polynomial with integer coefficients in $\mathcal{C}$. Using this, we find the cancellation and grouping free formula for the antipode. The coefficients appearing in all these polynomials are, up to signs, numbers counting multiplicities of sub-multi-complexes in a multi-complex. We also explicitly illustrate how our results specialize to the graph Hopf algebra, and observe how they specialize to results in all of the above mentioned particular cases. We also investigate applications of these results to the graph reconstruction conjectures, and rederive some results in the literature on these questions.

Ore Extensions and Infinite Triangularization

We give infinite triangularization and strict triangularization results for algebras of operators on infinite dimensional vector spaces. We introduce a class of algebras we call Ore-solvable algebras: these are similar to iterated Ore extensions but need not be free as modules over the intermediate subrings. Ore-solvable algebras include many examples as particular cases, such as group algebras of polycyclic groups or finite solvable groups, enveloping algebras of solvable Lie algebras, quantum planes and quantum matrices. We prove both triangularization and strict triangularization results for this class, and show how they generalize and extend classical simultaneous triangularization results such as the Lie and Engel theorems. We show that these results are, in a sense, the best possible, by showing that any finite dimensional triangularizable algebra must be of this type. We also give connections between strict triangularization and nil and nilpotent algebras, and prove a very general result for algebras defined via a recursive "Ore" procedure starting from building blocks which are either nil, commutative or finite dimensional algebras.

Maximal Subalgebras of Finite-Dimensional Algebras

We study maximal subalgebras of an arbitrary finite dimensional algebra over a field, and obtain full classification/description results of such algebras. This is done by first obtaining a complete classification in the semisimple case, and then lifting to non-semisimple algebras. The results are sharpest in the case of algebraically closed fields, and take special forms for algebras presented by quivers with relations. We also relate representation theoretic properties of the algebra and its maximal and other subalgebras, and provide a series of embeddings between quivers, incidence algebras and other structures which relate indecomposable representations of algebras and some subalgebras via induction/restriction functors. Some results in literature are also re-derived as a particular case, and other applications are given.

$FSZ$-groups and Frobenius-Schur Indicators of Quantum Doubles

We study the higher Frobenius-Schur indicators of the representations of the Drinfel'd double of a finite group G, in particular the question as to when all the indicators are integers. This turns out to be an interesting group-theoretic question. We show that many groups have this property, such as alternating and symmetric groups, PSL_2(q), M_{11}, M_{12} and regular nilpotent groups. However we show there is an irregular nilpotent group of order 5^6 with non-integer indicators.
