Fractional Cauchy problem on random snowflakes

We consider time-changed Brownian motions on random Koch (pre-fractal and fractal) domains where the time change is given by the inverse to a subordinator. In particular, we study the fractional Cauchy problem with Robin condition on the pre-fractal boundary obtaining asymptotic results for the corresponding fractional diffusions with Robin, Neumann and Dirichlet boundary conditions on the fractal domain.

On the time fractional heat equation with obstacle

We study a Caputo time fractional degenerate diffusion equation which we prove to be equivalent to the fractional parabolic obstacle problem, showing that its solution evolves for any $α\in(0,1)$ to the same stationary state, the solution of the classic elliptic obstacle problem. The only thing which changes with $α$ is the convergence speed. We also study the problem from the numerical point of view, comparing some finite different approaches, and showing the results of some tests. These results extend what recently proved in [1] for the case $α=1$.

Generalized binomials in fractional calculus

We consider a class of generalized binomials emerging in fractional calculus. After establishing some general properties, we focus on a particular yet relevant case, for which we provide several ready-for-use combinatorial identities, including an adapted version of the Pascal's rule. We then investigate the associated generating functions, for which we establish a recursive, combinatorial and integral formulation. From this, we derive an asymptotic version of the Binomial Theorem. A combinatorial and asymptotic analysis of some finite sums completes the paper.

Fractional SIS epidemic models

In this paper we consider the fractional SIS epidemic model ($α$-SIS model) in the case of constant population size. We provide a representation of the explicit solution to the fractional model and we illustrate the results by numerical schemes. A comparison with the limit case when the fractional order $α\uparrow 1$ (the SIS model) is also given. We analyse the effects of the fractional derivatives by comparing the SIS and the $α$-SIS models.

Delayed and rushed motions through time change

We introduce a definition of delayed and rushed processes in terms of lifetimes of base processes and time-changed base processes. Then, we consider time changes given by subordinators and their inverse processes. Our analysis shows that, quite surprisingly, time-changing with inverse subordinators does not necessarily imply delay of the base process. Moreover, time-changing with subordinators does not necessarily imply rushed base process.

Drifted Brownian motions governed by fractional tempered derivatives

Fractional equations governing the distribution of reflecting drifted Brownian motions are presented. The equations are expressed in terms of tempered Riemann--Liouville type derivatives. For these operators a Marchaud-type form is obtained and a Riesz tempered fractional derivative is examined, together with its Fourier transform.

Centre-of-mass like superposition of Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes: a pathway to non-autonomous stochastic differential equations and to fractional diffusion

We consider an ensemble of Ornstein-Uhlenbeck processes featuring a population of relaxation times and a population of noise amplitudes that characterize the heterogeneity of the ensemble. We show that the centre-of-mass like variable corresponding to this ensemble is statistically equivalent to a process driven by a non-autonomous stochastic differential equation with time- dependent drift and a white noise. In particular, the time scaling and the density function of such variable are driven by the population of timescales and of noise amplitudes, respectively. Moreover, we show that this variable is equivalent in distribution to a randomly-scaled Gaussian process, i.e., a process built by the product of a Gaussian process times a non-negative independent random variable. This last result establishes a connection with the so-called generalized gray Brownian motion and suggests application to model fractional anomalous diffusion in biological systems.

Modified Fractional Logistic Equation

In the article [B.J.West, Exact solution to fractional logistic equation, Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 429 (2015) 103-108], the author has obtained a function as the solution to fractional logistic equation (FLE). As demonstrated later in [I. Area, J. Losada, J. J. Nieto, A note on the fractional logistic equation, Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications 444 (2016) 182-187], this function (West function) is not the solution to FLE, but nevertheless as shown by West, it is in good agreement with the numerical solution to FLE. The West function indicates a compelling feature, in which the exponentials are substituted by Mittag-Leffler functions. In this paper, a modified fractional logistic equation (MFLE) is introduced, to which the West function is a solution. The proposed fractional integro-differential equation possesses a nonlinear additive term related to the solution of the logistic equation (LE). The method utilized in this article, may be applied to the analysis of solutions to nonlinear fractional differential equations of mathematical physics.

Solutions of fractional logistic equations by Euler's numbers

In this paper, we solve in the convergence set, the fractional logistic equation making use of Euler's numbers. To our knowledge, the answer is still an open question. The key point is that the coefficients can be connected with Euler's numbers, and then they can be explicitly given. The constrained of our approach is that the formula is not valid outside the convergence set, The idea of the proof consists to explore some analogies with logistic function and Euler's numbers, and then to generalize them in the fractional case.

Fractional Diffusion-Telegraph Equations and their Associated Stochastic Solutions

We present the stochastic solution to a generalized fractional partial differential equation involving a regularized operator related to the so-called Prabhakar operator and admitting, amongst others, as specific cases the fractional diffusion equation and the fractional telegraph equation. The stochastic solution is expressed as a Lévy process time-changed with the inverse process to a linear combination of (possibly subordinated) independent stable subordinators of different indices. Furthermore a related SDE is derived and discussed.

Probabilistic representation formula for the solution of fractional high order heat-type equations

We propose a probabilistic construction for the solution of a general class of fractional high order heat-type equations in the one-dimensional case, by using a sequence of random walks in the complex plane with a suitable scaling. A time change governed by a class of subordinated processes allows to handle the fractional part of the derivative in space. We first consider evolution equations with space fractional derivatives of any order, and later we show the extension to equations with time fractional derivative (in the sense of Caputo derivative) of order $α\in (0,1)$.

Fractional equations via convergence of forms

We relate the convergence of time-changed processes driven by fractional equations to the convergence of corresponding Dirichlet forms. The fractional equations we dealt with are obtained by considering a general fractional operator in time.

Determination of order in linear fractional differential equations

In this article, the order of some classes of fractional linear differential equations is determined, based on asymptotic behavior of the solution as time tends to infinity. The order of fractional derivative has been proved to be of great importance in an accurately appropriate simulation of the system under study. Specifically, by representing the asymptotic expansion of the solution, it could be obviously demonstrated that the decay rate of the solution is in influenced by the order of fractional differentiation. The numerical investigation is conducted into the proven formulas.

Asymptotics for time-changed diffusions

We consider time-changed diffusions driven by generators with discontinuous coefficients. The PDE's connections are investigated and in particular some results on the asymptotic analysis according to the behaviour of the coefficients are presented.

Skew Brownian diffusions across Koch interfaces

We consider planar skew Brownian motion (BM) across pre-fractal Koch interfaces $\partial Ω^n$ and moving on $\overline{Ω^n} \cup Σ^n= Ω^n_\varepsilon$. We study the asymptotic behaviour of the corresponding multiplicative additive functionals when thickness of $Σ^n$ and skewness coefficients vanish with different rates.

Spectral functions related to some fractional stochastic differential equations

In this paper we consider fractional higher-order stochastic differential equations of the form \begin{align*} \left( μ+ c_α\frac{d^α}{d(-t)^α} \right)^βX(t) = \mathcal{E}(t) , \quad t\geq 0,\; μ>0,\; β>0,\; α\in (0,1) \cup \mathbb{N} \end{align*} where $\mathcal{E}(t)$ is a Gaussian white noise. We derive stochastic processes satisfying the above equations of which we obtain explicitly the covariance functions and the spectral functions.

Fractional spherical random fields

In this paper we study the solutions of different forms of fractional equations on the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}_{1}^{2}$ $\subset \mathbb{R}^{3}$ possessing the structure of time-dependent random fields. We study the correlation functions of the random fields emerging in the analysis of the solutions of the fractional equations and examine their long-range behaviour.
