Inhomogeneous Diophantine approximation for generic homogeneous functions

The present paper is a sequel to [Monatsh.~Math.\ {\bf 194} (2021), 523--554] in which results of that paper are generalized so that they hold in the setting of inhomogeneous Diophantine approximation. Given any integers $n \geq 2$ and $\ell \geq 1$, any ${\pmb ξ} = \left(ξ_1, \dots , ξ_\ell \right) \in \mathbb{R}^\ell$, and any homogeneous function \linebreak $f = \left(f_1, \dots , f_\ell \right): \mathbb{R}^n \to \mathbb{R}^\ell$ that satisfies a certain nonsingularity assumption, we obtain a biconditional criterion on the approximating function $ψ= \left(ψ_1, \dots , ψ_\ell \right): \mathbb{R}_{\geq 0} \to \left(\mathbb{R}_{>0}\right)^\ell$ for a generic element $f \circ g$ in the $\operatorname{SL}_n(\mathbb{R})$-orbit of $f$ to be (respectively, not to be) $ψ$-approximable at ${\pmb ξ} = (ξ_1,\dots,ξ_n)$: that is, for there to exist infinitely many (respectively, only finitely many) $\mathbf{v} \in \mathbb{Z}^n$ such that $\left|ξ_j - \left( f_j \circ g\right)(\mathbf{v})\right| \leq ψ_j(\|\mathbf{v}\|)$ for each $j \in \left\lbrace 1, \dots, \ell \right\rbrace$. In this setting, we also obtain a sufficient condition for uniform approximation. We also consider some examples of $f$ that do not satisfy our nonsingularity assumptions and prove similar results for these examples. Moreover, one can replace $\operatorname{SL}_n(\mathbb{R})$ above by any closed subgroup of $\operatorname{ASL}_n(\mathbb{R})$ that satisfies certain integrability axioms (being of Siegel and Rogers type) introduced by the authors in the aforementioned previous paper.

Higher-rank pointwise discrepancy bounds and logarithm laws for generic lattices

We prove a higher-rank analogue of a well-known result of W. M. Schmidt concerning almost everywhere pointwise discrepancy bounds for lattices in Euclidean space (see Theorem 1 [Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 95 (1960), 516-529]). We also establish volume estimates pertaining to higher minima of lattices and then use the work of Kleinbock-Margulis and Kelmer-Yu to prove dynamical Borel-Cantelli lemmata and logarithm laws for higher minima and various related functions.

Inversion formulae for Siegel transforms

Let $n \in \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 3}$ be given. We prove Lebesgue-almost everywhere pointwise inversion formulae for the Siegel transforms in the geometry of numbers. These inversion formulae are quite general; for instance, they are valid for the Siegel transforms of any even and compactly supported Borel measurable function $f : \mathbb{R}^n \to \mathbb{R}$ that belongs to $L^1(\mathbb{R}^n) \cap L^2(\mathbb{R}^n).$

Khintchine-type theorems for values of subhomogeneous functions at integer points

This work has been motivated by recent papers that quantify the density of values of generic quadratic forms and other polynomials at integer points, in particular ones that use Rogers' second moment estimates. In this paper we establish such results in a very general framework. Given any subhomogeneous function (a notion to be defined) $f: \mathbb{R}^n \to \mathbb{R}$, we derive a necessary and sufficient condition on the approximating function $ψ$ for guaranteeing that a generic element $f\circ g$ in the $G$-orbit of $f$ is $ψ$-approximable; that is, $|f\circ g(\mathbf{v})| \le ψ(\|\mathbf{v}\|)$ for infinitely many $\mathbf{v} \in \mathbb{Z}^n$. We also deduce a sufficient condition in the case of uniform approximation. Here, $G$ can be any closed subgroup of $\rm{ASL}_n(\mathbb{R})$ satisfying certain axioms that allow for the use of Rogers-type estimates.

Some results on random unimodular lattices

Let $n \in \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 3}.$ Given any Borel subset $A$ of $\mathbb{R}^n$ with finite and nonzero measure, we prove that the probability that the set of primitive points of a random full-rank unimodular lattice in $\mathbb{R}^n$ does not contain any $\mathbb{R}$-linearly independent subset of $A$ of cardinality $(n-2)$ is bounded from above by a constant multiple, which depends only on $n$, of $\left(\mathrm{vol}(A)\right)^{-1}.$ This generalizes a result that is jointly due to J. S. Athreya and G. A. Margulis (see \cite[Theorem 2.2]{Log}). We also generalize independent results of C. A. Rogers (see \cite[Theorem 6]{MeanRog}) and W. M. Schmidt (see \cite[Theorem 1]{Metrical}) about primitive lattice points of random lattices to the case of primitive tuples of rank less than $\frac{n}{2}.$ In addition to the work of the authors who were just mentioned, a crucial element of this present paper is the usage of a rearrangement inequality due to Brascamp\textendash Lieb\textendash Luttinger (see \cite[Theorem 3.4]{BLL}).
