Stochastic quantization with discrete fictitious time

We present a new approach to stochastic quantization \`a la Parisi-Wu with a discrete fictitious time. The noise average is modified by weights, which results in the equivalence in the large time limit to the correlation function of the corresponding quantum field theory {\it without taking any continuum limit of fictitious time}. We test our method in a zero-dimensional toy model both perturbatively and numerically.

Quantizing multi-pronged open string junction

Covariant quantization of multi-pronged open bosonic string junction is studied beyond static analysis. Its excited states are described by a set of ordinary bosons as well as some sets of twisted bosons on the world-sheet. The system is characterized by a certain large algebra of twisted type which includes a single Virasoro algebra as a subalgebra. By properly defining the physical states, one can show that there are no ghosts in the Hilbert space.

Spiky strings in de Sitter space

We study semiclassical spiky strings in de Sitter space and the corresponding Regge trajectories, generalizing the analysis in anti-de Sitter space. In particular we demonstrate that each Regge trajectory has a maximum spin due to de Sitter acceleration, similarly to the folded string studied earlier. While this property is useful for the spectrum to satisfy the Higuchi bound, it makes a nontrivial question how to maintain mildness of high-energy string scattering which we are familiar with in flat space and anti-de Sitter space. Our analysis implies that in order to have infinitely many higher spin states, one needs to consider infinitely many Regge trajectories with an increasing folding number.

Non-renormalization theorem in a lattice supersymmetric theory and the cyclic Leibniz rule

N=4 supersymmetric quantum mechanical model is formulated on the lattice. Two supercharges, among four, are exactly conserved with the help of the cyclic Leibniz rule without spoiling the locality. In use of the cohomological argument, any possible local terms of the effective action are classified into two categories which we call type-I and type-II, analogous to the D- and F-terms in the supersymmetric field theories. We prove non-renormalization theorem on the type-II terms which include mass and interaction terms with keeping a lattice constant finite, while type-I terms such as the kinetic terms have nontrivial quantum corrections.

Supersymmetric extended string field theory in NS^n sector and NS^{n-1}-R sector

We construct a class of quadratic gauge invariant actions for extended string fields defined on the tensor product of open superstring state space for multiple open string Neveu-Schwarz (NS) sectors with or without one Ramond (R) sector. The basic idea is the same as for the bosonic extended string field theory developed by the authors [arXiv:1309.3850]. The theory for NS^n sector and NS^{n-1}-R sector contains general n-th rank tensor fields and (n-1)-th rank spinor-tensor fields in the massless spectrum respectively. In principle, consistent gauge invariant actions for any generic type of 10-dimensional massive or massless tensor or spinor-tensor fields can be extracted from the theory. We discuss some simple examples of bosonic and fermionic massless actions.

Non-renormalization theorem and cyclic Leibniz rule in lattice supersymmetry

We propose a lattice model of supersymmetric complex quantum mechanics which realizes the non-renormalization theorem on a lattice. In our lattice model, the Leibniz rule in the continuum, which cannot hold on a lattice due to a no-go theorem, is replaced by the cyclic Leibniz rule (CLR) for difference operators. It is shown that CLR allows two of four supercharges of the continuum theory to preserve while a naive lattice model can realize one supercharge at the most. A striking feature of our lattice model is that there are no quantum corrections to potential terms in any finite order of perturbation theory. This is one of characteristic properties of supersymmetric theories in the continuum. It turns out that CLR plays a crucial role in the proof of the non-renormalization theorem. This result suggests that CLR grasps an essence of supersymmetry on a lattice.

Cyclic Leibniz rule: a formulation of supersymmetry on lattice

For the purpose of constructing supersymmetric(SUSY) theories on lattice, we propose a new type relation on lattice -cyclic Leibniz rule(CLR)- which is slightly different from an ordinary Leibniz rule. Actually, we find that CLR can enlarge the number of SUSYs and construct more Nicolai mappings in a quantum-mechanical model. In this model, the exact mass degeneracy between fermion and boson is shown.

Extended string field theory for massless higher-spin fields

We propose a new gauge field theory which is an extension of ordinary string field theory by assembling multiple state spaces of the bosonic string. The theory includes higher spin fields in its massless spectrum together with the infinite tower of massive fields. From the theory, we can easily extract the minimal gauge invariant quadratic action for tensor fields with any symmetry. As examples, we explicitly derive the gauge invariant actions for some simple mixed symmetric tensor fields. We also construct covariantly gauge-fixed action by extending the method developed for string field theory.

A criterion for lattice supersymmetry: cyclic Leibniz rule

It is old folklore that the violation of Leibniz rule on a lattice is an obstruction for constructing a lattice supersymmetric model. While it is still true for full supersymmetry, we show that a slightly modified form of the Leibniz rule, which we call cyclic Leibniz rule (CLR), is actually a criterion for the existence of partial lattice supersymmetry. In one dimension, we find sets of lattice difference operator and field multiplication smeared over lattice which satisfy the CLR under some natural assumptions such as translational invariance and locality. Thereby we construct a model of supersymmetric lattice quantum mechanics without spoiling locality. The CLR relation is coincident with the condition that the vanishing of the so-called surface term in the construction by lattice Nicolai map. We can construct superfield formalism with arbitrary superpotential. This also enables us to apply safely a localization technique to our model, because the kinetic term and the interaction terms of our model are independently invariant under the supersymmetry transformation. A preliminary attempt in finding a solution for the higher dimensional case is also discussed.

Leibniz rule, locality and supersymmetry on lattice

In a finite volume system, we prove a no-go theorem on a Leibniz rule with a care of locality argument on latttice. The new possibility on the Leibniz rule solutions on lattice is discussed. Although the new solution admits a local difference operator, a non-local product rule is needed. In the case, a supersymmetric interacting theory is simply realized. The difference between finite flavor systems and matrix representations of infinite flavor systems is explained based on a finite volume system analysis including the no-go theorem.

Closed string field theory in a-gauge

We show that a-gauge, a class of covariant gauges developed for bosonic open string field theory, is consistently applied to the closed string field theory. A covariantly gauge-fixed action of massless fields can be systematically derived from a-gauge-fixed action of string field theory.

No-Go Theorem of Leibniz Rule and Supersymmetry on the Lattice

An obstacle to realize supersymmetry on a lattice is the breakdown of Leibniz rule. We give a proof of a no-go theorem that it is impossible to construct a lattice field theory in an infinite lattice volume with any nontrivial field products and difference operators that satisfy the following three properties: (i) translation invariance, (ii) locality and (iii) Leibniz rule. We then propose a way to escape from the no-go theorem by introducing infinite flavors, and present a lattice model of N=2 supersymmetric quantum mechanics equipped with the full exact supersymmetry.

General Linear Gauges and Amplitudes in Open String Field Theory

A general class of gauges for open string field theory, for which the gauge fixing condition is given by linear equations with respect to string field, is investigated in detail. This class of gauges includes almost all known ones like Siegel gauge and its various extensions such as a-gauges proposed by the present authors as well as Schnabl gauge and linear b-gauges. A general form of propagators is determined and their common features are analyzed. A consistent procedure for calculating the amplitudes is given. Gauge independence of the on-shell physical amplitudes is explicitly shown.

Taming the Leibniz Rule on the Lattice

We study a product rule and a difference operator equipped with Leibniz rule in a general framework of lattice field theory. It is shown that the difference operator can be determined by the product rule and some initial data through the Leibniz rule. This observation leads to a no-go theorem that it is impossible to construct any difference operator and product rule on a lattice with the properties of (i) translation invariance, (ii) locality and (iii) Leibniz rule. We present a formalism to overcome the difficulty by an infinite flavor extension or a matrix expression of a lattice field theory.

Level Truncated Tachyon Potential in Various Gauges

New gauge fixing condition with single gauge parameter proposed by the authors is applied to the level truncated analysis of tachyon condensation in cubic open string field theory. It is found that the only one real non-trivial extremum persists to appear in the well-defined region of the gauge parameter, while the other solutions are turned out to be gauge-artifacts. Contrary to the previously known pathology in the Feynman-Siegel gauge, tachyon potential is remarkably smooth enough around Landau-type gauge.

New Covariant Gauges in String Field Theory

A single-parameter family of covariant gauge fixing conditions in bosonic string field theory is proposed. It is a natural string field counterpart of the covariant gauge in the conventional gauge theory, which includes the Landau gauge as well as the Feynman (Siegel) gauge as special cases. The action in the Landau gauge is largely simplified in such a way that numerous component fields have no derivatives in their kinetic terms and appear in at most quadratic in the vertex.

Leibniz rule and exact supersymmetry on lattice: a case of supersymmetrical quantum mechanics

We propose a new formulation of lattice theory. It is given by a matrix form and suitable for satisfying Leibniz rule on lattice. The theory may be interpreted as a multi-flavor system. By realizing the difference operator as a commutator, we may obtain exact supersymmetric theories on lattice explicitly. Some problems such as locality and single flavor reduction are also commented.
