Applicability and Limitations of Quantum Circuit Cutting in Classical State-Vector Simulation

Circuit cutting partitions a large quantum circuit into smaller subcircuits that can be executed independently and recombined by classical post-processing. In classical state-vector simulation with full-state reconstruction, the runtime is governed by a trade-off between reduced subcircuit size and the overheads of exponentially many subcircuits and full-state reconstruction. For equal partitioning, we derive threshold conditions on the number of cuts below which cutting reduces the wall-clock time. State-vector experiments validate the predicted speedup boundary up to 24 qubits, and a runtime breakdown up to 30 qubits identifies crossovers at $q \approx 18$ and $q \approx 22$ where merging overtakes first preprocessing and then subcircuit simulation. As a practical guideline, we show that under a 10-minute wall-clock budget, two-way cutting extends the maximum feasible qubit count by 4 to 6 qubits relative to simulation without cutting.

Time evolution of a thin black ring via Hawking radiation

Black objects lose their mass and angular momenta through evaporation by Hawking radiation, and the investigation of their time evolution has a long history. In this paper, we study this problem for a five-dimensional doubly spinning black ring. The black ring is assumed to emit only massless scalar particles. We consider a thin black ring with a small thickness parameter, $λ\ll 1$, which can be approximated by a boosted Kerr string locally. We show that a thin black ring evaporates with fixing its thickness parameter $λ$. Further, in the case of an Emparan-Reall black ring, we derive analytic formulas for the time evolution, which has one parameter to be evaluated numerically. We find that the lifetime of a thin black ring is shorter by a factor of $O(λ^2)$ compared to a five-dimensional Schwarzschild black hole with the same initial mass. We also study detailed properties of the Hawking radiation from the thin black ring, including the energy and angular spectra of emitted particles.

Dynamical Critical Phenomena in three-dimensional Heisenberg Spin Glasses

Spin-glass (SG) and chiral-glass (CG) orderings in three dimensional (3D) Heisenberg spin glass with and without magnetic anisotropy are studied by using large-scale off-equilibrium Monte Carlo simulations. A characteristic time of relaxation, which diverges at a transition temperature in the thermodynamic limit, is obtained as a function of the temperature and the system size. Based on the finite-size scaling analysis for the relaxation time, it is found that in the isotropic Heisenberg spin glass, the CG phase transition occurs at a finite temperature, while the SG transition occurs at a lower temperature, which is compatible with zero. Our results of the anisotropic case support the chirality scenario for the phase transitions in the 3D Heisenberg spin glasses.
