Energy decay rate of a transmission system governed by degenerate wave equation with drift and under heat conduction with memory effect

In this paper, we investigate the stabilization of transmission problem of degenerate wave equation and heat equation under Coleman-Gurtin heat conduction law or Gurtin-Pipkin law with memory effect. We investigate the polynomial stability of this system when employing the Coleman-Gurtin heat conduction, establishing a decay rate of type $t^{-4}$. Next, we demonstrate exponential stability in the case when Gurtin-Pipkin heat conduction is applied.

Stability for degenerate wave equations with drift under simultaneous degenerate damping

In this paper we study the stability of two different problems. The first one is a one-dimensional degenerate wave equation with degenerate damping, incorporating a drift term and a leading operator in non-divergence form. In the second problem we consider a system that couples degenerate and non-degenerate wave equations, connected through transmission, and subject to a single dissipation law at the boundary of the non-degenerate equation. In both scenarios, we derive exponential stability results.

Well-Posedness and Polynomial energy decay rate of a transmission problem for Rayleigh beam model with heat conduction

In this paper, we investigate the stability of the transmission problem for Rayleigh beam model with heat conduction. First, we reformulate our system into an evolution equation and prove our problem's well-posedness. Next, we demonstrate the resolvent of the operator is compact in the energy space, then by using the general criteria of Arendt-Batty, we prove that the thermal dissipation is enough to stabilize our model. Finally, a polynomial energy decay rate has been obtained which depends on the mass densities and the moments of inertia of the Rayleigh beams.

Stability Results for Novel Serially-connected Magnetizable Piezoelectric and Elastic Smart-System Designs

In this paper, the stability of longitudinal vibrations for transmission problems of two smart-system designs are studied: (i) a serially-connected Elastic-Piezoelectric-Elastic design with a local damping acting only on the piezoelectric layer and (ii) a serially-connected Piezoelectric-Elastic design with a local damping acting on the elastic part only. Unlike the existing literature, piezoelectric layers are considered magnetizable, and therefore, a fully-dynamic PDE model, retaining interactions of electromagnetic fields (due to Maxwell's equations) with the mechanical vibrations, is considered. The design (i) is shown to have exponentially stable solutions. However, the nature of the stability of solutions of the design (ii), whether it is polynomial or exponential, is dependent entirely upon the arithmetic nature of a quotient involving all physical parameters. Furthermore, a polynomial decay rate is provided in terms of a measure of irrationality of the quotient. Note that this type of result is totally new (see Theorem 3.6 and Condition $\rm{\mathbf{(H_{Pol})}}$). The main tool used throughout the paper is the multipliers technique which requires an adaptive selection of cut-off functions together with a particular attention to the sharpness of the estimates to optimize the results.

Stabilization of weakly coupled viscoelastic Kirchhoff plate and wave equations

In this paper, we consider a weakly coupled system consisting of a viscoelastic Kirchhoff plate equation involving free boundary conditions and the viscoelastic wave equation with Dirichlet boundary conditions in a bounded domain. By assuming a more general type of relaxation functions, we establish explicit and general decay rate results, using the multiplier method and some properties of the convex functions.

Exponential Stability and exact controllability of a system of coupled wave equations by second order terms (via Laplacian) with only one non-smooth local damping

The purpose of this work is to investigate the exponential stability of a second order coupled wave equations by laplacian with one locally internal viscous damping. Firstly, using a unique continuation theorem combined with a Carleman estimate, we prove that our system is strongly stable without any geometric condition. Secondly, using a combination of the multiplier techniques and the frequency domain approach, we show that our system is exponentially stable under \textbf{(PMGC)} condition on the damping region without any restriction on wave propagation speed (i.e whether the two wave equations propagate at the same speed or not)

Stabilization results of a Lorenz piezoelectric beam with partial viscous dampings

In this paper, we investigate the stabilization of a one-dimensional Lorenz piezoelectric (Stretching system) with partial viscous dampings. First, by using Lorenz gauge conditions, we reformulate our system to achieve the existence and uniqueness of the solution. Next, by using General criteria of Arendt-Batty, we prove the strong stability in different cases. Finally, we prove that it is sufficient to control the stretching of the center-line of the beam in x-direction to achieve the exponential stability. Numerical results are also presented to validate our theoretical result.

Stability results of locally coupled wave equations with local Kelvin-Voigt damping: Cases when the supports of damping and coupling coefficients are disjoint

In this paper, we study the direct/indirect stability of locally coupled wave equations with local Kelvin-Voigt dampings/damping and by assuming that the supports of the dampings and the coupling coefficients are disjoint. First, we prove the well-posedness, strong stability, and polynomial stability for some one dimensional coupled systems. Moreover, under some geometric control condition, we prove the well-posedness and strong stability in the multi-dimensional case.

Stabilization of coupled wave equations with viscous damping on cylindrical and non-regular domains: Cases without the geometric control condition

In this paper, we investigate the direct and indirect stability of locally coupled wave equations with local viscous damping on cylindrical and non-regular domains without any geometric control condition. If only one equation is damped, we prove that the energy of our system decays polynomially with the rate $t^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ if the two waves have the same speed of propagation, and with rate $t^{-\frac{1}{3}}$ if the two waves do not propagate at the same speed. Otherwise, in case of two damped equations, we prove a polynomial energy decay rate of order $t^{-1}$.

Stability and instability results of the Kirchhoff plate equation with delay terms on boundary or dynamical boundary controls

In this paper, we consider the Kirchhoff plate equation with delay terms on the boundary control are added (see system \eqref{p5-2.1} below). we give some instability examples of system \eqref{p5-2.1} for some choices of delays. Finally, we prove its well-posedness, strong stability without any geometric condition and exponential stability under a multiplier geometric control condition.

A N-dimensional elastic\viscoelastic transmission problem with Kelvin-Voigt damping and non smooth coefficient at the interface

We investigate the stabilization of a multidimensional system of coupled wave equations with only one Kelvin Voigt damping. Using a unique continuation result based on a Carleman estimate and a general criteria of Arendt Batty, we prove the strong stability of the system in the absence of the compactness of the resolvent without any geometric condition. Then, using a spectral analysis, we prove the non uniform stability of the system. Further, using frequency domain approach combined with a multiplier technique, we establish some polynomial stability results by considering different geometric conditions on the coupling and damping domains. In addition, we establish two polynomial energy decay rates of the system on a square domain where the damping and the coupling are localized in a vertical strip.

Stabilisation of the generalised Rao-Nakra beam by partial viscous damping

In this paper, we consider the stabilization of the generalized Rao-Nakra beam equation, which consists of four wave equations for the longitudinal displacements and the shear angle of the top and bottom layers and one Euler-Bernoulli beam equation for the transversal displacement. Dissipative mechanism are provided through viscous damping for two displacements. The location of the viscous damping are divided into two groups, characterized by whether both of the top and bottom layers are directly damped or otherwise. Each group consists of three cases. We obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for the cases in group two to be strongly stable. Furthermore, polynomial stability of certain orders are proved. The cases in group one are left for future study

Energy Decay of some boundary coupled systems involving wave$\backslash$ Euler-Bernoulli beam with one locally singular fractional Kelvin-Voigt damping

In this paper, we investigate the energy decay of hyperbolic systems of wave-wave, wave-Euler- Bernoulli beam and beam-beam types. The two equations are coupled through boundary connection with only one localized non-smooth fractional Kelvin-Voigt damping. First, we reformulate each system into an augmented model and using a general criteria of Arendt-Batty, we prove that our models are strongly stable. Next, by using frequency domain approach, combined with multiplier technique and some interpolation inequalities, we establish different types of polynomial energy decay rate which depends on the order of the fractional derivative and the type of the damped equation in the system.

The influence of the physical coefficients of a Bresse system with one singular local viscous damping in the longitudinal displacement on its stabilization

In this paper, we investigate the stabilization of a linear Bresse system with one singular local frictional damping acting in the longitudinal displacement, under fully Dirichlet boundary conditions. First, we prove the strong stability of our system. Next, using a frequency domain approach combined with the multiplier method, we establish the exponential stability of the solution if and only if the three waves have the same speed of propagation. On the contrary, we prove that the energy of our system decays polynomially with rates $t^{-1}$ or $t^{-\frac{1}{2}}$.

Indirect stability of a multidimensional coupled wave equations with one locally boundary fractional damping

In this work, we consider a system of multidimensional wave equations coupled by velocities with one localized fractional boundary damping. First, using a general criteria of Arendt- Batty, by assuming that the boundary control region satisfy some geometric conditions, under the equality speed propagation and the coupling parameter of the two equations is small enough, we show the strong stability of our system in the absence of the compactness of the resolvent. Our system is not uniformly stable in general since it is the case of the interval. Hence, we look for a polynomial decay rate for smooth initial data for our system by applying a frequency domain approach combining with a multiplier method. Indeed, by assuming that the boundary control region satisfy some geometric conditions and the waves propagate with equal speed and the coupling parameter term is small enough, we establish a polynomial energy decay rate for smooth solutions, which depends on the order of the fractional derivative.

On the stability of Bresse system with one discontinuous local internal Kelvin-Voigt damping on the axial force

In this paper, we investigate the stabilization of a linear Bresse system with one discontinuous local internal viscoelastic damping of Kelvin-Voigt type acting on the axial force, under fully Dirichlet boundary conditions. First, using a general criteria of Arendt-Batty, we prove the strong stability of our system. Finally, using a frequency domain approach combined with the multiplier method, we prove that the energy of our system decays polynomially with different rates.
