On AdS/CFT of Galilean Conformal Field Theories

We study a new contraction of a d+1 dimensional relativistic conformal algebra where n+1 directions remain unchanged. For n=0,1 the resultant algebras admit infinite dimensional extension containing one and two copies of Virasoro algebra, respectively. For n> 1 the obtained algebra is finite dimensional containing an so(2,n+1) subalgebra. The gravity dual is provided by taking a Newton-Cartan like limit of the Einstein's equations of AdS space which singles out an AdS_{n+2} spacetime. The infinite dimensional extension of n=0,1 cases may be understood from the fact that the dual gravities contain AdS_2 and AdS_3 factor, respectively. We also explore how the AdS/CFT correspondence works for this case where we see that the main role is playing by AdS_{n+2} base geometry.

Asymptotic symmetry of geometries with Schrodinger isometry

We show that the asymptotic symmetry algebra of geometries with Schrodinger isometry in any dimension is an infinite dimensional algebra containing one copy of Virasoro algebra. It is compatible with the fact that the corresponding geometries are dual to non-relativistic CFTs whose symmetry algebra is the Schrodinger algebra which admits an extension to an infinite dimensional symmetry algebra containing a Virasoro subalgebra.

Fermions in non-relativistic AdS/CFT correspondence

We extend the non-relativistic AdS/CFT correspondence to the fermionic fields. In particular we study the two point function of a fermionic operator in non-relativistic CFTs by making use of a massive fermion propagating in geometries with Schrodinger group isometry. Although the boundary of the geometries with Schrodinger group isometry differ from that in AdS geometries where the dictionary of AdS/CFT is established, using the general procedure of AdS/CFT correspondence, we see that the resultant two point function has the expected form for fermionic operators in non-relativistic CFTs, though a non-trivial regularization may be needed.

2D Gravity on $AdS_2$ with Chern-Simons Corrections

We study 2D Maxwell-dilaton gravity with higher order corrections given by the Chern-Simons term. The model admits three distinctive $AdS_2$ vacuum solutions. By making use of the entropy function formalism we find the entropy of the solutions which is corrected due to the presence of the Chern-Simons term. We observe that the form of the correction depends not only on the coefficient of the Chern-Simons term, but also on the sign of the electric charge; pointing toward the chiral nature of the dual CFT. Using the asymptotic symmetry of the theory as well as requiring a consistent picture we can find the central charge and the level of U(1) current. Upon uplifting the solutions to three dimensions we get purely geometric solutions which will be either $AdS_3$ or warped $AdS_3$ with an identification.

Non-relativistic CFT and Semi-classical Strings

We study different features of 3D non-relativistic CFT using gravity description. As the corresponding gravity solution can be embedded into the type IIB string theory, we study semi-classical closed/open strings in this background. In particular we consider folded rotating and circular pulsating closed strings where we find the anomalous dimension of the dual operators as a function of their quantum numbers. We also consider moving open strings in this background which can be used to compute the drag force. In particular we find that for slowly moving particles, the energy is lost exponentially and the characteristic time is given in terms of the temperature, while for fast moving particles the energy loss goes as inverse of the time and the characteristic time is independent of the temperature.

On Six Dimensional Fundamental Superstrings as Holograms

In this note we discuss a possible holographic dual of the two dimensional conformal field theory associated with the world-sheet of a macroscopic superstring in a compactification on four-torus. We assume the near horizon geometry of the black string has symmetries of $AdS_3\times S^3\times T^4$ and construct a sigma model in the bulk. Analyzing the symmetries of the bulk theory and comparing them with those of the CFT in a special light-cone gauge we find agreement between global symmetries. Due to non-standard gauge realization it is not clear how affine symmetries can be realized.

Higher-derivative 3-algebras

Starting with the N=8 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory on D2-branes and incorporating higher-derivative corrections to lowest nontrivial order, we perform a duality to derive the Lorentzian 3-algebra theory along with a set of derivative corrections. We find that these corrections can be expressed entirely in terms of intrinsic 3-algebra quantities: the 3-bracket and covariant derivatives. Our analysis is performed for both bosonic and fermionic terms. We conjecture that the derivative corrections we obtain are relevant for Euclidean 3-algebra theories as well.

Central Charge for 2D Gravity on AdS(2) and AdS(2)/CFT(1) Correspondence

We study 2D Maxwell-dilaton gravity on AdS(2). We distinguish two distinctive cases depending on whether the AdS(2) solution can be lifted to an AdS(3) geometry. In both cases, in order to get a consistent boundary condition we need to work with a twisted energy momentum tensor which has non-zero central charge. With this central charge and the explicit form of the twisted Virasoro generators we compute the entropy of the system using the Cardy formula. The entropy is found to be the same as that obtained from gravity calculations for a specific value of the level of the U(1) current. The agreement is an indication of $AdS(2)/CFT(1) correspondence.

On 5D Small Black Holes

Using higher order corrections we argue that five dimensional N=2 and N=4 small black holes exhibit supersymmetry enhancement in near horizon geometry leading to eight and sixteen supercharges, respectively. Using this enhancement at supergravity level we can identify the global supergroup of the near horizon geometry. In particular we show how this supergroup distinguishes between small and large black holes in N=2 case.

DBI in the Sky

We analyze the spectrum of density perturbations generated in models of the recently discovered "D-cceleration" mechanism of inflation. In this scenario, strong coupling quantum field theoretic effects sum to provide a DBI-like action for the inflaton. We show that the model has a strict lower bound on the non-Gaussianity of the CMBR power spectrum at an observable level, and is thus falsifiable. This in particular observationally distinguishes this mechanism from traditional slow roll inflation generated by weakly interacting scalar fields. The model also favors a large observable tensor component to the CMBR spectrum.

On R**2 Corrections for 5D Black Holes

We study higher order corrections to extremal black holes/black string in five dimensions. These higher order corrections are due to supersymmetric completion of R**2 term in five dimensions. By making use of the results we extend the notion of very special geometry when higher derivative terms are also taken into account. This can be used to make a connection between total bundle space of near horizon wrapped M2's and wrapped M5's in the presence of higher order corrections. We also show how the corrected geometry removes the singularity of a small black hole.

New Attractors, Entropy Function and Black Hole Partition Function

By making use of the entropy function formalism we study the generalized attractor equations in the four dimensional N=2 supergravity in presence of higher order corrections. This result might be used to understand a possible ensemble one could associate to an extremal black hole.

Non-Supersymmetric Attractors and Entropy Function

We study the entropy of non-supersymmetric extremal black holes which exhibit attractor mechanism by making use of the entropy function. This method, being simple, can be used to calculate corrections to the entropy due to higher order corrections to the action. In particular we apply this method for five dimensional non-supersymmetric extremal black hole which carries two magnetic charges and find the R^2 corrections to the entropy. Using the behavior of the action evaluated for the extremal black hole near the horizon, we also present a simple expression for C-function corrected by higher order corrections.

On 1/2 BPS Solutions in M-theory

We study singular 1/2 BPS solutions in M-theory using 11-dimensional superstar solutions. The superstar solutions and their corresponding plane wave limits could give an insight how one may deform the boundary conditions to get singular, but still physically acceptable, solutions. Starting from M-theory solutions with an isometry, we will also study 10-dimensional solutions coming from these M-theory solutions compactified on a circle.

On Supergravity Solutions of Branes in Melvin Universes

We study supergravity solutions of type II branes wrapping a Melvin universe. These solutions provide the gravity description of non-commutative field theories with non-constant non-commutative parameter. Typically these theories are non-supersymmetric, though they exhibit some feature of their corresponding supersymmetric theories. An interesting feature of these non-commutative theories is that there is a critical length in the theory in which for distances larger than this length the effects of non-commutativity become important and for smaller distances these effects are negligible. Therefore we would expect to see this kind of non-commutativity in large distances which might be relevant in cosmology. We also study M5-brane wrapping on 11-dimensional Melvin universe and its descendant theories upon compactifying on a circle.

Hologravity

The dS/dS correspondence provides a holographic description of quantum gravity in d dimensional de Sitter space near the horizon of a causal region in a well defined approximation scheme; it is equivalent to the low energy limit of conformal field theory on de Sitter space in d-1 dimensions coupled to d-1 dimensional gravity. In this work, we extend the duality to higher energy scales by performing calculations of various basic physical quantities sensitive to the UV region of the geometry near the center of the causal patch. In the regime of energies below the d dimensional Planck scale but above the curvature scale of the geometry, these calculations encode the physics of the d-1 dimensional matter plus gravity system above the crossover scale where gravitational effects become strong. They exhibit phenomena familiar from studies of two dimensional gravity coupled to conformal field theory, including the cancellation of the total Weyl anomaly in d-1 dimensions. We also outline how the correspondence can be used to address the issue of observables in de Sitter space, and generalize the correspondence to other space times, such as black holes, inflationary universes, and landscape bubble decays. In the cases with changing cosmological constant, we obtain a dual description in terms of renormalization group flow.

On Isolated Conformal Fixed Points and Noncritical String Theory

We search for the gravity description of unidentified field theories at their conformal fixed points by studying the low energy effective action of six dimensional noncritical string theory. We find constant dilaton solutions by solving both the equations of motion and BPS equations. Our solutions include a free parameter provided by a stack of uncharged space filling branes. We find several AdS_p\times S^q solutions with constant radii for AdS_p and S^q. The curvature of the solutions are of the order of the string scale.

The dS/dS Correspondence

We present a holographic duality for the de Sitter static patch which consolidates basic features of its geometry and the behavior of gravity and brane probes, valid on timescales short compared to the decay or Poincare recurrence times. Namely de Sitter spacetime $dS_d(R)$ in $d$ dimensions with curvature radius $R$ is holographically dual to two conformal field theories on $dS_{d-1}(R)$, cut off at an energy scale 1/R where they couple to each other and to $d-1$ dimensional gravity. As part of our analysis, we study brane probes in de Sitter and thermal Anti de Sitter spaces, and interpret the terms in the corresponding DBI action via strongly coupled thermal field theory. This provides a dual field theoretic interpretation of the fact that probes take forever to reach a horizon in general relativity.
