The Recovery of $λ$ from a Hilbert Polynomial

In the study of Hilbert schemes, the integer partition $λ$ helps researchers identify some geometric and combinatorial properties of the scheme in question. To aid researchers in extracting such information from a Hilbert polynomial, we describe an efficient algorithm which can identify if $p(x)\in\mathbb{Q}[x]$ is a Hilbert polynomial and if so, recover the integer partition $λ$ associated with it.

F-Holonomic F-Modules

Let $R=\mathbb{F}_p[x_1,\ldots,x_n]$ and let $\mathbf{F}$ be the ring of Frobenius operators over $R$. We introduce a notion of Bernstein dimension and multiplicity for the class of finitely generated $\mathbf{F}$-modules whose structure morphism has a finite length kernel. We show that an $\mathbf{F}$-module belongs to this class if and only if it admits a great filtration with respect to the Bernstein filtration on $\mathbf{F}$. We describe the Hilbert series of these great filtrations, and prove that the dimension and multiplicity defined in terms of this Hilbert series are independent of the choice of filtration. We refer to the $\mathbf{F}$-modules of Bernstein dimension $0$ as $F$-holonomic. We show that $F$-holonomic $\mathbf{F}$-modules are a full abelian subcategory of $\text{Mod}_{\mathbf{F}}$, closed under taking extensions, on which multiplicity is an additive function. We show that Lyubeznik's finitely generated unit $\mathbf{F}$-modules are $F$-holonomic.

The Fedder action and a simplicial complex of local cohomologies

Let $R$ be a regular ring of prime characteristic $p > 0$, and let $\underline{\mathbf{f}}=f_1,\ldots,f_c$ be a permutable regular sequence of codimension $c\geq 1$. We describe a complex of $R\langle F \rangle$-modules, denoted $Δ\hspace{-2.65mm}Δ^\bullet_{\underline{\mathbf{f}}}(R)$, whose terms include $Δ\hspace{-2.65mm}Δ^0_{\underline{\mathbf{f}}}(R)=R/\underline{\mathbf{f}}$ equipped with its natural Frobenius action, and $Δ\hspace{-2.65mm}Δ^c_{\underline{\mathbf{f}}}(R)=H^c_{\underline{\mathbf{f}}}(R)$ equipped with a Frobenius action we refer to as the Fedder action. We show that $H^i(Δ\hspace{-2.65mm}Δ^\bullet_{\underline{\mathbf{f}}}(R))=0$ for all $i<c$, and that $H^c(Δ\hspace{-2.65mm}Δ^\bullet_{\underline{\mathbf{f}}}(R))$ is a copy of $H^c_{\underline{\mathbf{f}}}(R)$ equipped with the usual Frobenius action. Using the $Δ\hspace{-2.65mm}Δ^\bullet_{\underline{\mathbf{f}}}(R)$ complex, we show that if $I\supseteq \underline{\mathbf{f}}$ is an ideal such that $H^i_I(R)=0$ for $\text{ht}(I)<i<\text{ht}(I)+c$ (which is automatic if $R/I$ is Cohen-Macaulay), then the module $H^{\text{ht}(I/\underline{\mathbf{f}})+c}_{I/\underline{\mathbf{f}}}(R/\underline{\mathbf{f}})$ has Zariski closed support.
