Longitudinal dependence of two-particle momentum correlations from NEXSPHERIO model

The rapidity dependence of two-particle momentum correlations can be used to probe the viscosity of the liquid produced in heavy nuclei collisions at RHIC. We reexamine this probe in light of the recent experimental analyses of the azimuthal-angle dependence of number correlations, which demonstrate the importance of initial state fluctuations propagated by hydrodynamic flow in these correlations. The NEXSPHERIO model combines fluctuating initial conditions with viscosity-free hydrodynamic evolution and, indeed, has been shown to describe azimuthal correlations. We use this model to compute the number density correlation $R_{2}$ and the momentum current correlation function {\it C}, at low transverse momentum in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = $~200 GeV. {\it C} is sensitive to details of the collision dynamics. Its longitudinal width is expected to broaden under the influence of viscous effects and narrow in the presence of sizable radial flow. While NEXSPHERIO model qualitatively describes the emergence of a near-side ridge-like structure for both the $R_2$ and {\it C} observables, we find that it predicts a longitudinal narrowing of the near side peak of these correlation functions for increasing number of participants in contrast with recent observations by the STAR Collaboration of a significant broadening in most central collisions relative to peripheral collisions.

Scope of cloud computing for SMEs in India

Cloud computing is a set of services that provide infrastructure resources using internet media and data storage on a third party server. SMEs are said to be the lifeblood of any vibrant economy. They are known to be the silent drivers of a nation's economy. SMEs of India are one of the most aggressive adopters of ERP Packages. Most of the Indian SMEs have adopted the traditional ERP Systems and have incurred a heavy cost while implementing these systems. This paper presents the cost savings and reduction in the level of difficulty in adopting a cloud computing Service (CCS) enabled ERP system. For the study, IT people from 30 North Indian SMEs were interviewed. In the cloud computing environment the SMEs will not have to own the infrastructure so they can abstain from any capital expenditure and instead they can utilize the resources as a service and pay as per their usage. We consider the results of the paper to be supportive to our proposed research concept.

Linear magnetosonic waves in solar wind flow tubes

Nakariakov et al. (1996) investigated the linear magnetosonic waves trapped within solar wind flow tubes, where they accounted for a slab having boundaries at $x = \pm d$ and extended up to infinity in the $y$ and $z$ directions. Srivastava and Dwivedi (2006) claimed to extend that work by considering a two-dimensional slab. We find that the work of Srivastava and Dwivedi (2006) is not for a two-dimensional slab and has a number of discrepancies. Further, their results for body waves are not reliable.

Comment on "Dispersion relation for MHD waves in homogeneous plasma"

Pandey & Dwivedi (2007) again tried to claim that the dispersion relation for the given set of equations must be a sixth degree polynomial. Through a series of papers, they are unnecessarily creating confusion. In the present communication, we have shown how Pandey & Dwivedi (2007) are introducing an additional root, which is insignificant. Moreover, five roots of both the polynomials are common and they are sufficient for the discussion of propagation of slow-mode and fast-mode waves.

Estimation of shear viscosity based on transverse momentum correlations

Event anisotropy measurements at RHIC suggest the strongly interacting matter created in heavy ion collisions flows with very little shear viscosity. Precise determination of "shear viscosity-to-entropy" ratio is currently a subject of extensive study. We present preliminary results of measurements of the evolution of transverse momentum correlation function with collision centrality of $Au +Au$ interactions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV. We compare two differential correlation functions, namely {\it inclusive} and a differential version of the correlation measure $\tilde C$ introduced by Gavin ${\it et. al.}$. These observables can be used for the experimental study of the shear viscosity per unit entropy.

Methods for the Study of Transverse Momentum Differential Correlations

We introduce and compare three differential correlation functions for the study of transverse momentum correlation in $p+p$ and $A+A$ collisions. These consist of {\it inclusive}, {\it event-wise} and a differential version of the correlation measure $\tilde C$ introduced by Gavin \cite{Gavin} for experimental study of the viscosity per unit entropy of the matter produced in $A+A$ collisions. We study the quantitative difference between the three observables on the basis of PYTHIA simulations of $p+p$ collisions and $A+A$ collisions consisting of an arbitrary superposition of $p+p$ collision events at $\sqrt{s} = $200 GeV. We observe that {\it inclusive} and {\it event-wise} correlation functions are remarkably identical to each other where as the observable $\tilde C$ differs from the two. We study the robustness and efficiency dependencies of these observables based on truncated Taylor expansions in efficiency in $p+p$ collisions and on the basis of Monte Carlo simulation using an adhoc detector efficiency parameterization. We find that all the three observables are essentially independent of detector efficiency. We additionally study the scaling of the correlation measures and find all the observables exhibit an approximate $1/N$ dependence of the number of participants ({\it N}) in $A+A$ collisions. Finally, we study the impact of flow-like anisotropy on the {\it inclusive} correlation function and find flow imparts azimuthal modulations similar to those observed with two-particle densities.

Beam-Energy and System-Size Dependence of Dynamical Net Charge Fluctuations

We present measurements of net charge fluctuations in $Au + Au$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = $ 19.6, 62.4, 130, and 200 GeV, $Cu + Cu$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = $ 62.4, 200 GeV, and $p + p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = $ 200 GeV using the net charge dynamical fluctuations measure $ν_{+-,dyn}$. The dynamical fluctuations are non-zero at all energies and exhibit a rather modest dependence on beam energy. We find that at a given energy and collision system, net charge dynamical fluctuations violate $1/N_{ch}$ scaling, but display approximate $1/N_{part}$ scaling. We observe strong dependence of dynamical fluctuations on the azimuthal angular range and pseudorapidity widths.

Energy and System Size Dependence of Photon Production at Forward Rapidities at RHIC

The energy and system size dependence of pseudorapidity ($η$) and multiplicity distributions of photons are measured in the region -2.3 $\leq$ $η$ $\leq$ -3.7 for Cu + Cu collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 and 62.4 GeV. Photon multiplicity measurements at forward rapidity have been carried out using a Photon Multiplicity Detector (PMD) in the STAR experiment. Photons are found to follow longitudinal scaling for Cu + Cu collisions for 0-10% centrality. A Comparison of pseudorapidity distributions with HIIJING model is also presented.
