On uniqueness results for Dirichlet problems of elliptic systems without DeGiorgi-Nash-Moser regularity

We study uniqueness of Dirichlet problems of second order divergence-form elliptic systems with transversally independent coefficients on the upper half-space in absence of regularity of solutions. To this end, we develop a substitute for the fundamental solution used to invert elliptic operators on the whole space by means of a representation via abstract single layer potentials. We also show that such layer potentials are uniquely determined.

The Kato Square Root Problem follows from an Extrapolation Property of the Laplacian

On a domain $Ω\subseteq \mathbb{R}^d$ we consider second order elliptic systems in divergence form with bounded complex coefficients, realized via a sesquilinear form with domain $V \subseteq H^1(Ω)$. Under very mild assumptions on $Ω$ and $V$ we show that the Kato Square Root Problem for such systems can be reduced to a regularity result for the fractional powers of the negative Laplacian in the same geometric setting. This extends an earlier result of McIntosh to non-smooth coefficients.

The Kato Square Root Problem for Mixed Boundary Conditions

We consider the negative Laplacian subject to mixed boundary conditions on a bounded domain. We prove under very general geometric assumptions that slightly above the critical exponent $\frac{1}{2}$ its fractional power domains still coincide with suitable Sobolev spaces of optimal regularity. In combination with a reduction theorem recently obtained by the authors, this solves the Kato Square Root Problem for elliptic second order operators and systems in divergence form under the same geometric assumptions.

Lp-estimates for the square root of elliptic systems with mixed boundary conditions

This article focuses on Lp-estimates for the square root of elliptic systems of second order in divergence form on a bounded domain. We treat complex bounded measurable coefficients and allow for mixed Dirichlet/Neumann boundary conditions on domains beyond the Lipschitz class. If there is an associated bounded semigroup on Lp0 , then we prove that the square root extends for all p $\in$ (p0, 2) to an isomorphism between a closed subspace of W1p carrying the boundary conditions and Lp. This result is sharp and extrapolates to exponents slightly above 2. As a byproduct, we obtain an optimal p-interval for the bounded H$\infty$-calculus on Lp. Estimates depend holomorphically on the coefficients, thereby making them applicable to questions of non-autonomous maximal regularity and optimal control. For completeness we also provide a short summary on the Kato square root problem in L2 for systems with lower order terms in our setting.

Interpolation theory for Sobolev functions with partially vanishing trace on irregular open sets

A full interpolation theory for Sobolev functions with smoothness between 0 and 1 and vanishing trace on a part of the boundary of an open set is established. Geometric assumptions are of mostly measure theoretic nature and reach beyond Lipschitz regular domains. Previous results were limited to regular geometric configurations or Hilbertian Sobolev spaces. Sets with porous boundary and their characteristic multipliers on smoothness spaces play a major role in the arguments.

On p-elliptic divergence form operators and holomorphic semigroups

Second order divergence form operators are studied on an open set with various boundary conditions. It is shown that the p-ellipticity condition of Carbonaro-Dragicevic and Dindos-Pipher implies extrapolation to a holomorphic semigroup on Lebesgue spaces in a p-dependent range of exponents that extends the maximal range for general strictly elliptic coefficients. Results have immediate consequences for the harmonic analysis of such operators, including Hoo-calculi and Riesz transforms.

The Kato Square Root Problem on locally uniform domains

We obtain the Kato square root estimate for second order elliptic operators in divergence form with mixed boundary conditions on an open and possibly unbounded set in $\mathbb{R}^d$ under two simple geometric conditions: The Dirichlet boundary part is Ahlfors--David regular and a quantitative connectivity property in the spirit of locally uniform domains holds near the Neumann boundary part. This improves upon all existing results even in the case of pure Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions. We also treat elliptic systems with lower order terms. As a side product we establish new regularity results for the fractional powers of the Laplacian with boundary conditions in our geometric setup.

On non-autonomous maximal regularity for elliptic operators in divergence form

We consider the Cauchy problem for non-autonomous forms inducing elliptic operators in divergence form with Dirichlet, Neumann, or mixed boundary conditions on an open subset $Ω$ $\subseteq$ R n. We obtain maximal regularity in L 2 ($Ω$) if the coefficients are bounded, uniformly elliptic, and satisfy a scale invariant bound on their fractional time-derivative of order one-half. Previous results even for such forms required control on a time-derivative of order larger than one-half.

Sobolev contractivity of gradient flow maximal functions

We prove that the energy dissipation property of gradient flows extends to the semigroup maximal operators in various settings. In particular, we show that the vertical maximal function relative to the $p$-parabolic extension does not increase the $\dot{W}^{1,p}$ norm of $\dot{W}^{1,p}(\mathbb{R}^n) \cap L^{2}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ functions when $p > 2$. We also obtain analogous results in the setting of uniformly parabolic and elliptic equations with bounded, measurable, real and symmetric coefficients, where the solutions do not have a representation formula via a convolution.

Non-local Gehring lemmas in spaces of homogeneous type and applications

We prove a self-improving property for reverse H{ö}lder inequalities with non-local right hand side. We attempt to cover all the most important situations that one encounters when studying elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations as well as certain fractional equations. We also consider non-local extensions of A$\infty$ weights. We write our results in spaces of homogeneous type.

Non-local self-improving properties: A functional analytic approach

A functional analytic approach to obtaining self-improving properties of solutions to linear non-local elliptic equations is presented. It yields conceptually simple and very short proofs of some previous results due to Kuusi-Mingione-Sire and Bass-Ren. Its flexibility is demonstrated by new applications to non-autonomous parabolic equations with non-local elliptic part and questions related to maximal regularity

Characterizations of Sobolev Functions that vanish on a part of the boundary

Let $Ω$ be a bounded domain in R n with a Sobolev extension property around the complement of a closed part D of its boundary. We prove that a function u $\in$ W 1,p ($Ω$) vanishes on D in the sense of an interior trace if and only if it can be approximated within W 1,p ($Ω$) by smooth functions with support away from D. We also review several other equivalent characterizations, so to draw a rather complete picture of these Sobolev functions vanishing on a part of the boundary.

Convergence of subdiagonal Padé approximations of $C_{0}$-semigroups

Let $(r_{n})_{n \in \mathbb{N}}$ be the sequence of subdiagonal Padé approximations of the exponential function. We prove that for $-A$ the generator of a uniformly bounded $C_{0}$-semigroup $T$ on a Banach space $X$, the sequence $(r_{n}(-tA))_{n \in\mathbb{N}}$ converges strongly to $T(t)$ on $\textrm{D}(A^α)$ for $α>\frac{1}{2}$. Local uniform convergence in $t$ and explicit convergence rates in $n$ are established. For specific classes of semigroups, such as bounded analytic or exponentially $γ$-stable ones, stronger estimates are proved. Finally, applications to the inversion of the vector-valued Laplace transform are given.
