Nonequilibrium Andreev transport at the QGP-2SC interface

We discuss a nonequilibrium Andreev reflection at an interface between quark-gluon plasma (QGP) and two-flavor color superconducting (2SC) quark matter. Based on the Schwinger-Keldysh framework and a relativistic tunneling model, we evaluate the momentum-resolved tunneling current generated by a chemical-potential bias between the QGP and 2SC phases. We find that the Andreev reflection appears as at the fourth order of the tunneling strength, in which an incident quark in QGP is converted into a reflected hole, while a Cooper pair is injected into the 2SC condensate. We show that the Andreev reflection is enhanced when the bias becomes comparable to the gap and is suppressed in the supergap region, which is similar to that in superconducting materials. The present formulation provides a field-theoretical pathway to strongly-correlated transport across dense-matter interfaces relevant to nonequilibrium dynamics in compact stars.

Thermodynamic geometry in hadron resonance gas model at real and imaginary baryon chemical potential and a simple sufficient condition for quark deconfinement

The thermodynamic geometry of the hadron resonance gas model with (without) excluded volume effects (EVE) of baryons is investigated. The case with imaginary mu, where mu is the baryon chemical potential, is investigated as well as the one with real mu. We calculate the scalar curvature R and use the R=0 criterion to investigate the phase structure in the mu^2-T plane where T is the temperature. The curve on which R=0 continues analytically from the imaginary mu region, where the lattice QCD is feasible, to the real mu one. In the presence of EVE, there are rich phase structures in the large real mu region as well as the Roberge-Weiss like region where mu is imaginary and a singularity appears, while there is no phase structure in the large real $μ$ region in the absence of EVE. The limitation temperature of the baryon gas is also obtained by using the baryon number fluctuation. The LQCD predicted critical point locates almost on the curve of the limitation temperature we determined. A simple empiric sufficient condition, n_B>1/(2v_B)$, is obtained for the quark deconfinement in the large real mu region, where n_B and v_B are the net baryon number density and the volume of a baryon, respectively.

Dense matter in a holographic hard-wall model of QCD

A deeper understanding of QCD matter at strong coupling remains challenging due to its non-perturbative nature. To this end, we study a two-flavor holographic hard-wall model to investigate the properties of QCD at finite-density and zero temperature with a nonvanishing quark mass. A dense matter phase is described by a classical solution of the equations of motion in a homogeneous Ansatz. We apply holographic renormalization to formulate the holographic dictionary that relates UV boundary data in the bulk with the physical quantities in QCD. We emphasize a role played by an IR boundary action on the hard-wall when analyzing the QCD phase structures in this holographic setup. It is found that a baryonic matter phase is manifested in this model with a high baryon number density and a nearly vanishing chiral condensate. We derive the equation of state for the resulting phase and use it to work out the mass-radius relation for neutron stars. We find that the maximum mass of neutron stars can exceed two solar masses for a wide range of free parameters in this model. We also comment on an alternative scenario about the phase structure such that the baryonic matter phase arises at a baryon number chemical potential greater than a critical value.

Schwinger-Keldysh approach to tunneling transport at a hadron-quark interface

We theoretically discuss quantum tunneling transport and frictions at a hadron-quark matter interface based on the Schwinger-Keldysh approach combined with the tunneling Hamiltonian, which has been developed in the context of condensed matter physics. In the inner core of massive neutron stars, it is expected that cold quark matter appears at sufficiently high densities and hence exhibits color superconductivity, surrounded by nucleon superfluids at lower densities. The perturbative expressions of the tunneling current and the friction at the interface are obtained in terms of the non-equilibrium Green's functions. We demonstrate the DC Josephson current that occurs at the hadron-quark superfluid interface in the present scheme. Our framework can be applied to various conflagrations involving the interfaces relevant to astrophysical phenomena.

Hadron-quark hybrid model, modular transformation and Roberge-Weiss transition

In the framework of modular transformations, we reformulate the recently proposed hadron-quark hybrid model when the imaginary baryonic chemical potential is introduced. As a result, we can consider the torus, which is characterized by the complex number densities of baryons (antibaryons) and quarks (antiquarks). We apply this model to analyze the Roberge-Weiss transition. It is shown that the torus vanishes at the baryonic chemical potential where the Roberge-Weiss transition appears because the number density of baryons (antibaryons) is not linearly independent of the number density of quarks (antiquarks). When the temperature T is lower than the Roberge-Weiss transition temperature TRW, the torus shrinks smoothly to the one-dimensional object at the Roberge-Weiss transition point, but the discontinuity does not appear. On the other hand, the discontinuity of the geometrical object appears when T>TRW. We also calculate the modulus of the torus and transform it into the fundamental region. The transformed moduli are symmetric below TRW, but the symmetry is broken above TRW.

Chiral condensate in a holographic dilute nuclear matter

We study chiral condensate in cold nuclear matter on the basis of holographic theory, which would be dual to a baryon system in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) in the confinement phase. Our model is a holographic model based on the D$3$/D$7$ branes. The magnitude of the chiral condensate obtained in our model is found to gradually increase with increasing baryon density $n$ within the range of the dilute nucleon gas, $n<1$, where our model is available. This is a result for the chiral condensate in the holographic model as a function of $n$, which can be compared to the chiral perturbation theory.

Instability of holographic cold compact stars with a color superconducting core

We study a holographic model of quantum chromodynamics, which can describe a color superconductor and a dilute nucleon gas phase. The two phases are adjoined in the phase diagram at a critical value of the chemical potential. In other words, a first-order transition from the ordinary nucleon gas to the color superconductor is found by increasing the chemical potential. This model is suitable to investigate the possibility of a cold compact star with a color superconducting core. The equation of state of the star is given by the holographic model considered in this article, and we find that it is impossible in the present model to find a hybrid star of nuclear matter and the color superconductor core through the relation of mass and radius of the star by solving the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations. Several other interesting implications are given by using the equation of state.

Stiff equation of state for a holographic nuclear matter as instanton gas

In a holographic model, which was used to investigate the color superconducting phase of QCD, a dilute gas of instantons is introduced to study the nuclear matter. The free energy of the nuclear matter is computed as a function of the baryon chemical potential in the probe approximation. Then the equation of state is obtained at low temperature. Using the equation of state for the nuclear matter, the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkov equations for a cold compact star are solved. We find the mass-radius relation of the star, which is similar to the one for quark star. This similarity implies that the instanton gas given here is a kind of self-bound matter.

Andreev reflection at Hadron/Color superconductor interface

We consider the phenomenon of the Andreev reflection of "hadrons" at the interface between hadronic and color superconducting phases, which are expected to appear in the neutron star interior. Here, hadrons are defined as a superposition of constituent quarks, each of which is Andreev-reflected. We study what kind of reflections are possible to come out of incident mesons and baryons in the hadronic phase, attached to different color superconducting phases. Then, some peculiar patterns of the reflections are obtained.

Extension to Imaginary Chemical Potential in a Holographic Model

We extend a bottom up holographic model, which has been used in studying the color superconductivity in QCD, to the imaginary chemical potential ($μ_I$) region, and the phase diagram is studied on the $μ_I$-temperature (T) plane. The analysis is performed for the case of the probe approximation and for the background where the back reaction from the flavor fermions are taken into account. For both cases, we could find the expected Roberge-Weiss (RW) transitions. In the case of the back-reacted solution, a bound of the color number $N_c$ is found to produce the RW periodicity. It is given as $N_c\geq 1.2$. Furthermore, we could assure the validity of this extended model by comparing our result with the one of the lattice QCD near $μ_I=0$.

Color Superconductivity in Holographic SYM Theory

A holographic bottom-up model used in studying the superconducting system is applied to search for the color superconducting phase of supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. We apply the probe analysis of this model to the supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in both the confinement and deconfinement phases. In this analysis, we find the color superconductivity in both phases when the baryon chemical potential exceeds a certain critical value. This result implies that, above the critical chemical potential, a color non-singlet diquark operator, namely the Cooper pair, has its vacuum expectation value even in the confinement phase. In order to improve this peculiar situation, we proceed the analysis by taking account of the full back-reaction from the probe. As a result, the color superconducting phase, which is observed in the probe approximation, disappears in both the confinement and deconfinement phases when parameters of the theory are set within their reasonable values.

Continuity of vortices from the hadronic to the color-flavor locked phase in dense matter

We study how vortices in dense superfluid hadronic matter can connect to vortices in superfluid quark matter, as in rotating neutron stars, focusing on the extent to which quark-hadron continuity can be maintained. As we show, a singly quantized vortex in three-flavor symmetric hadronic matter can connect smoothly to a singly quantized non-Abelian vortex in three-flavor symmetric quark matter in the color-flavor locked (CFL) phase, without the necessity for boojums appearing at the transition.

Tunneling in Quantum Cosmology and Holographic SYM theory

We study the time evolution of early universe which is developed by a cosmological constant $Λ_4$ and supersymmetric Yang-Mills (SYM) fields in the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) space-time. The renormalized vacuum expectation value of energy-momentum tensor of the SYM theory is obtained in a holographic way. It includes a radiation of the SYM field, parametrized as $C$. The evolution is controlled by this radiation $C$ and the cosmological constant $Λ_4$. For positive $Λ_4$, an inflationary solution is obtained at late time. When $C$ is added, the quantum mechanical situation at early time is fairly changed. Here we perform the early time analysis in terms of two different approaches, (i) the Wheeler-DeWitt equation and (ii) Lorentzian path-integral with the Picard-Lefschetz method by introducing an effective action. The results of two methods are compared.

Generalized thermalization time of dark matter captured by neutron stars

We discuss the issue on dark matter capture by neutron stars, in particular the process of dark matter thermalization, by which the scattering cross section and the mass of dark matter can be constrained. At first, we evaluate the thermalization time of self-interacting dark matter and find the effect of the self-interaction is small compared with that of the interaction with nucleons. Then we generalize the thermalization time by introducing a set of new parameters. We show how the cross section is affected by those new parameters. It turns out that the cross section gets very sensitive to and strongly constrained by one of the new parameters.

Chiral Symmetry of SYM theory in hyperbolic space at finite temperature

We study a holographic gauge theory living in the AdS$_4$ space-time at finite temperature. The gravity dual is obtained as a solution of the type IIB superstring theory with two free parameters, which correspond to four dimensional (4D) cosmological constant ($λ$) and the dark radiation ($C$) respectively. The theory studied here is in confining and chiral symmetry broken phase for $λ<0$ and small $C$. When $C$ is increased, the transition to the deconfinement phase has been observed at a finite value of $C/|λ|$. It is shown here that the chiral symmetry is still broken for a finite range of $C/|λ|$ in the deconfinement phase. In other words, the chiral phase transition occurs at a larger value of $C/|λ|$ than the one of the deconfinement transition. So there is a parameter range of a new deconfinement phase with broken chiral symmetry. In order to study the properties of this phase, we performed a holographic analysis for the meson mass-spectrum and other quantities in terms of the probe D7 brane. The results of this analysis are compared with a linear sigma model. Furthermore, the entanglement entropy is examined to search for a sign of the chiral phase trantion. Several comments are given for these analyses.

Holographic cold nuclear matter and neutron star

We have previously found a new phase of cold nuclear matter based on a holographic gauge theory, where baryons are introduced as instanton gas in the probe D8/$\overline{\rm D8}$ branes. In our model, we could obtain the equation of state (EOS) of our nuclear matter by introducing fermi momentum. Then, here we apply this model to the neutron star and study its mass and radius by solving the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equations in terms of the EOS given here. We give some comments for our holographic model from a viewpoint of the other field theoretical approaches.

Comment on Dark Matter Capture in Neutron Stars with Exotic Phases

In this short paper, we argue the issue on dark matter capture in neutron stars. After summarizing the whole scenario and the introduction of previous studies along this line, we propose some potentially important effects due to the appearance of exotic phases such as neutron superfluidity, meson condensation and quark superconductivity. Those effects might be sizable and alter the previous results.
