Universal composite phase gates with tunable target phase

We present a systematic method for constructing universal composite phase gates with a continuously tunable target phase. Using a general Cayley--Klein parametrization of the single-pulse propagator, we design gates from an even number of nominal $π$ pulses and derive analytic phase families by canceling, order by order in a small deviation parameter, the leading contributions to the undesired off-diagonal element of the composite propagator, independently of the dynamical phase. The resulting sequences provide intrinsic robustness against generic control imperfections and parameter fluctuations and remain valid for arbitrary pulse shapes. Numerical simulations in a standard two-level model confirm high-order error suppression and demonstrate broad, flat high-fidelity plateaus over wide ranges of simultaneous pulse-area and detuning errors, highlighting the efficiency of the proposed universal composite phase gates for resilient phase control in quantum information processing.

Polarization Independent Optical Isolator in Sagnac-Type Configuration

We propose a polarization-independent optical isolator that does not use walk-off between the two orthogonal polarizations. The design is based on two Faraday rotators in combination with two half-wave plates in a closed, Sagnac-interferometer-like, configuration. An experimental prototype is tested successfully under variation of the input light polarization state with isolation level between 43 dB and 50 dB for all input polarizations (linear, circular, or elliptical).

Segmented Composite Optical Parametric Amplification

We propose a novel optical parametric amplification scheme which combines quasi-phase-matching with a composite pulse approach that involves crystal segments of specific lengths. The presented scheme highly increases the robustness of the frequency conversion against variations of the nonlinear coupling and of the pump, idler or signal wavelengths and has therefore the potential to enhance high amplification and broadband operation. Simulations examples applied to LiNbO_3 are given.

Achromatic polarization rotator with tunable rotation angle

We theoretically suggest and experimentally demonstrate a broadband composite optical rotator that is capable of rotating the polarization plane of a linearly-polarized light at any chosen angle. The device is composed of an even number of half-wave plates rotated at specific angles with respect to their fast-polarization axes. The frequency bandwidth of the polarization rotator in principal increases with the number of half-wave plates. Here we experimentally examine the performance of rotators composed of two, four, six, eight and ten half-wave plates.
