Particle Dynamics and Quasi-Periodic Oscillations in the GUP-Modified Schwarzschild Spacetime: Constraint Using Micro-Quasars Data

In this work, we have worked out dynamical aspects for the particles moving around the GUP-corrected-Schwarzschild (S-GUP) black hole. We have calculated the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) around black hole and explored its implications for different microquasars. Additionally, we have shown that the Kerr black hole mimics S-GUP black hole after some tuning of parameters. Finally, considering the S-GUP black hole as a microquasar source, we have studied quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO). Further utilizing the available observational data of few microquasars, we have obtained constrains on the GUP parameter $ε$ as well.

Hamiltonian Formulation of Relativistic Magnetohydrodynamic Accretion on a General Spherically Symmetric and Static Black Hole: Quantum effects on Shock States

In this paper, our aim is to extend our earlier work [A. K. Ahmed et al., Eur. Phys. J. C (2016) 76:280] thereby investigating an axisymmetric plasma flow with the angular momentum onto a spherical black hole. To accomplish that goal, we focus on the case that the ideal magnetohydrodynamic approximation is valid and utilizing certain conservation laws which arise from certain symmetries of the system. After formulating a Hamiltonian of the physical system, we solve the Hamilton equations and look for critical solutions of (both in and out) flows. Reflecting the difference from the Schwarzschild spacetime, the positions of sonic points (fast magnetosonic point, slow magnetosonic point, Alfvén point) are altered. We explore several kinds of flows including critical, non-critical, global, magnetically arrested and shock induced. Lastly we analyze the shock states near a specific quantum corrected Schwarzschild black hole and deduce that quantum effects do not favor shock states by pushing the shock location outward.

Observational test of ${\cal R}^{2}$ spacetimes with the S2 star in the Milky Way galactic center

A novel class of vacuum metrics expressible in analytical form was recently found for pure $\mathcal R^2$ gravity, based on a groundwork put forth by Buchdahl in 1962. These Buchdahl-inspired solutions offer a practical framework for testing ${\cal R}^2$ gravity through empirical observations. Within a subclass of asymptotically flat Buchdahl-inspired vacuum spacetimes, we identified a parameter $ε$ measuring the deviation from the classic Schwarzschild metric, which corresponds to $ε=0$. In this paper, we employ observational data from the S2 star's orbit around Sgr A* in the Milky Way galactic center and perform Monte Carlo Markov Chain simulations to probe the effects of the new metrics on the orbit of the S2 star. Our analysis presented herein reports a range at 95\% confidence level on the deviation parameter as $ε\in(-0.6690,\ 0.4452)$. While no decisive evidence either in favor or in disfavor of the asymptotically flat Buchdahl-inspired spacetimes has been achieved, the obtained bound is compatible with the tighter results using other data of different nature as recently reported in Eur.\,Phys.\,J.\,C $\bf 84$, 330 (2024). As a meaningful test probing into a strong-field regime, our present study calls for further observations with prolonged period and improved accuracy in order to tighten the bound for $ε$ using the S2 star orbit.

Effect of magnetized plasma on shadow and gravitational lensing of a Reissner-Nordström black hole

We explore the influence of the axion-plasmon on the optical properties of the charged black hole and show how the axion-plasmon coupling modifies the motion of photons around the charged black hole. We then explore in details observational effects such as the black hole shadow, the gravitational deflection angle, Einstein rings and shadow images obtained by radially infalling gas on a black hole within a plasma medium. An important finding is that the intensity of the electromagnetic radiation increases with the increase of charge and the size of the black hole shadow decreases with increase of the electric charge for a fixed axion-plasmon coupling values when observed from sufficiently large distance. Overall, for a constant value of charge the optical appearance of the black hole shadow depends on the surrounding plasma model and the largest shadow radius if found for the case of no plasma, while the smallest shadow radius is found for the case of homogeneous plasma.

Kerr-Newman Black Holes in Weyl-Cartan Theory: Shadows and EHT constraints

With the recent release of the black hole image of Sgr A* alongside the earlier image of M87*, one can achieve an in-depth understanding of gravitational physics at the horizon scale. According to the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) collaboration, the observed image is consistent with the expected appearance of a Kerr black hole. In the present work, we consider Kerr-Newman black holes in Weyl-Cartan theory as a supermassive black hole (BH) and evaluate the parameters of the model with shadow size estimates done by the observations of M87* and Sgr A* from EHT. Such a study can be a possible way to distinguish Weyl-Cartan theory from general relativity and ensure the validity of the idea. Besides, we calculate the energy emission rate for the corresponding BH and discuss how the model's parameters affect the emission of particles around the black hole. With this investigation, we are able to examine the time evolution and lifetime of the black hole in such a theory of gravity.

Observational tests of asymptotically flat ${\cal R}^{2}$ spacetimes

A novel class of Buchdahl-inspired metrics with closed-form expressions was recently obtained based on Buchdahl's seminal work on searching for static, spherically symmetric metrics in ${\cal R}^{2}$ gravity in vacuo. Buchdahl-inspired spacetimes provide an interesting framework for testing predictions of ${\cal R}^{2}$ gravity models against observations. To test these Buchdahl-inspired spacetimes, we consider observational constraints imposed on the deviation parameter, which characterizes the deviation of the asymptotically flat Buchdahl-inspired metric from the Schwarzschild spacetime. We utilize several recent solar system experiments and observations of the S2 star in the Galactic center and the black hole shadow. By calculating the effects of Buchdahl-inspired spacetimes on astronomical observations both within and outside of the solar system, including the deflection angle of light by the Sun, gravitational time delay, perihelion advance, shadow, and geodetic precession, we determine observational constraints on the corresponding deviation parameters by comparing theoretical predictions with the most recent observations. Among these constraints, we find that the tightest one comes from the Cassini mission's measurement of gravitational time delay.

Weak gravitational lensing and shadow of a GUP-modified Schwarzschild black hole in the presence of plasma

In this work, we have studied weak gravitational lensing effect around black hole and determine shadow radius in GUP-corrected-Schwarzschild spacetime (S-GUP) in presence of plasma environment. We started with orbits of photons around black hole in S-GUP. In addition, we have studied shadow and gravitational weak lensing around such black hole. By using observational data of EHT project for the M87* and Sgr A*, we have got constrains parameter $ε$ in S-GUP gravity. Further to make a connection with observations, we investigate magnification and position of images formed as a result of lensing, and finally weak deflection angle and magnification for sources near M87* and Sgr A*.

On the parameters of the spherically symmetric parametrized Rezzolla-Zhidenko spacetime through solar system tests, orbit of S2 star about Sgr A$^\star$, and quasiperiodic oscillations

In this paper, we find the higher order expansion parameters $α$ and $λ$ of spherically symmetric parametrized Rezzolla--Zhidenko (PRZ) spacetime by using its functions of the radial coordinate. We subject the parameters of this spacetime to classical tests including weak gravitational field effects in Solar System, observations of the S2 star located in the star cluster close to the Sgr A$^{\star}$ and of the frequencies of selected microquasars. Based on this spherically symmetric spacetime we perform the analytic calculations for Solar System effects like perihelion shift, light deflection, and gravitational time delay so as to determine limits on the parameters by using observational data. We restrict our attention to the limits on the two higher order expansion parameters $α$ and $λ$ that survive at the horizon or near the horizon of spherically symmetric metrics. The properties of these two small parameters expansion in PRZ parametrization are discussed. We further apply the Monte Carlo Markov Chain (MCMC) simulations to analyze and obtain the limits on the expansion parameters by using observations of phenomena of the S2 star. Finally, we consider the epicyclic motions and derive analytic expressions of the epicyclic frequencies. Applying these expressions to the quasiperiodic oscillations (QPOs) of selected microquasars allows us to set further limits on the parameters of the PRZ spacetime. Our results demonstrate that the higher order expansion parameters can be given in the range $α\, ,λ=(-0.09\, , 0.09)$ and of order $\sim 10^{-2}$ as a consequence of three various tests and observations.

Quantum effects on the black hole shadow and deflection angle in presence of plasma

In this paper, optical properties of renormalization group improved (RGI) Schwarzschild black hole (BH) are investigated in plasma medium. Starting from the equations of motions in plasma medium, we have shown how the shadow radius of the RGI black hole is modified. To this end, we have computed the deflection angle of light in the weak gravity regime for uniform and non-uniform plasma medium. Importantly, due to the plasma medium, we find that the equations of motions for light obtained from the radiating and infalling/rest gas has to be modified. This in turn, changes and modifies the expression for the intensity observed far away from the black hole. Finally, we have obtained the shadow images for the RGI black hole for different plasma models. Even thought, quantum effect changes the background geometry, these effects are very small and, practically, it is impossible to detect them with the present technology using the supermassive black hole shadows. The parameter $Ω$ encodes the quantum effects and, in principle, one expects such quantum effects to play a significant role only for very small black holes. On the other hand, the effect of plasma medium can play important role on the optical appearance of black holes since they effect and modify the equations of motions.

Testing Born-Infeld $f(T)$ teleparallel gravity through Sgr A$^\star$ observations

We use observational data from the S2 star orbiting around the Galactic Center to constrain a black hole solution of extended teleparallel gravity models. Subsequently, we construct the shadow images of Sgr A$^{\star}$ black hole. In particular, we constrain the parameter $α=1/λ$ which appears in the Born-Infeld $f(T)$ model. In the strong gravity regime we find that the shadow radius increases with the increase of the parameter $α$. Specifically, from the S2 star observations, we find within 1$σ$ that the parameter must lie between $0 \leq α/M^2 \leq 6 \times 10^{-4}$. Consequently, we used the best fit parameters to model the shadow images of Sgr A$^{\star}$ black hole and then using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem we analysed the deflection angle for leading order expansions of the parameter $α$. It is found that within the parameter range, these observables are very close to the Schwarzschild case. Furthermore, using the best fit parameters for the Born-Infeld $f(T)$ model we show the angular diameter is consistent with recent observations for the Sgr A$^{\star}$ black hole angular diameter $(51.8 \pm 2.3) μ$arcsec and difficult to be distinguished from the GR. For the deflection angle of light, in leading order terms, we find that the deflection angle expressed in the ADM mass coincides with the GR, but the ADM mass in the Born-Infeld $f(T)$ gravity increases with the increase of $α$ and the overall deflection angle is expected to me greater in $f(T)$ gravity. As a consequence of this fact, we have shown that the electromagnetic intensity observed in shadow images is smaller compared to GR.

Constraints on the magnetized Ernst black hole spacetime through quasiperiodic oscillations

We study the dynamics of test particles around a magnetized Ernst black hole considering its magnetic field in the environment surrounding the black hole. We show how its magnetic field can influence the dynamics of particles and epicyclic motion around the black hole. Based on the analysis, we find that the radius of the innermost stable circular orbit (ISCO) for both neutral and charged test particles and epicyclic frequencies are strongly affected by the influence of the magnetic field. We also show that the ISCO radius of charged particles decreases rapidly. It turns out that the gravitational and Lorentz forces of the magnetic field are combined, thus strongly shrinking the values of the ISCO of charged test particles. Finally, we obtain the generic form for the epicyclic frequencies and select three microquasars with known astrophysical quasiperiodic oscillation (QPO) data to constrain the magnetic field. We show that the magnetic field is of the order of magnitude $B\sim 10^{-7}$ Gauss, taking into account the motion of neutral particles in circular orbit about the black hole.

Constraining Wormhole Geometries using the Orbit of S2 Star and the Event Horizon Telescope

In this paper we study the possibility of having a wormhole (WH) as a candidate for the Sgr A$^\star$ central object and test this idea by constraining their geometry using the motion of S2 star and the reconstructed shadow images. In particular, we consider three WH models, including WHs in Einstein theory, brane-world gravity, and Einstein-Dirac-Maxwell theory. To this end, we have constrained the WH throat using the motion of S2 star and shown that the flare out condition is satisfied. We also consider the accretion of infalling gas model and study the accretion rate and the intensity of the electromagnetic radiation as well as the shadow images.

Equatorial and polar quasinormal modes and quasiperiodic oscillations of quantum deformed Kerr black hole

In this paper we focus on the relation between quasinormal modes (QNMs) and a rotating black hole shadows. As a specific example, we consider the quantum deformed Kerr black hole obtained via Newman--Janis--Azreg-A\"ınou algorithm. In particular, using the geometric-optics correspondence between the parameters of a QNMs and the conserved quantities along geodesics, we show that, in the eikonal limit, the real part of QNMs is related to the Keplerian frequency for equatorial orbits. To this end, we explore the typical shadow radius for the viewing angles, $θ_0=π/2$, and obtained an interesting relation in the case of viewing angle $θ_0=0$ (or equivalently $θ_0=π$). Furthermore we have computed the corresponding equatorial and polar modes and the thermodynamical stability of the quantum deformed Kerr black hole. We also investigate other astrophysical applications such as the quasiperiodic oscillations and the motion of S2 star to constrain the quantum deforming parameter.

Quasiperiodic Oscillations, Quasinormal Modes and Shadows of Bardeen-Kiselev Black Holes

In this article, we study the particle dynamics around a static and spherically symmetric Bardeen-Kiselev black hole (BK BH) which is a solution of the Einstein-non-linear Maxwell field equations along with a quintessential field. We discuss its essential geometrical properties such as scalar invariants and size of innermost stable circular orbits. Dynamics of test particles around the BH is also studied. Moreover, we also computed the fundamental frequencies of a test particle orbiting the BH in a slightly perturbed orbit. Further, the degeneracy relations between the spin of rotating Kerr BH and magnetic charge of the BK BH at the values of the quintessential parameter $ω_q=-1/3$ and in terms of the same values of innermost stable circular orbits (ISCOs) radius, energy efficiency, twin-peaks quasiperiodic oscillations (QPOs) frequencies and impact parameter for photon are also discussed in detail. Finally, we have investigated the relationship between the shadow radius and the real part of the quasinormal mode (QNM) frequency.

Constraints on Barrow entropy from M87* and S2 star observations

We use data from M87* central black hole shadow, as well as from the S2 star observations, in order to extract constraints on Barrow entropy. The latter is a modified entropy arising from quantum-gravitational effects on the black hole horizon, quantified by the new parameter $Δ$. Such a change in entropy leads to a change in temperature, as well as to the properties of the black hole and its shadow. We investigate the photon sphere and the shadow of a black hole with Barrow entropy, and assuming a simple model for infalling and radiating gas we estimate the corresponding intensity. Furthermore, we use the radius in order to extract the real part of the quasinormal modes, and for completeness we investigate the spherical accretion of matter onto the black hole, focusing on isothermal and polytropic test fluids. We extract the allowed parameter region, and by applying a Monte-Carlo-Markov Chains analysis we find that $ Δ\simeq 0.0036^{+0.0792}_{-0.0145}$. Hence, our results place the upper bound $Δ\lesssim0.0828$ at 1$σ$, a constraint that is less strong than the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis one, but significantly stronger than the late-time cosmological constraints.

Stability and phase transition of rotating Kaluza-Klein black holes

In this paper, we investigate thermodynamics and phase transitions of a 4-dimensional rotating Kaluza-Klein black hole solution in the presence of Maxwell electrodynamics. Calculating the conserved and thermodynamical quantities shows that the first law of thermodynamics is satisfied. To find the stable black hole' s criteria, we check the stability in the canonical ensemble by analyzing the behavior of the heat capacity. We also consider a massive scalar perturbation minimally coupled to the background geometry of the 4-dimensional static Kaluza-Klein black hole and investigate the quasinormal modes by employing the WKB approximation. The anomalous decay rate of the quasinormal modes spectrum is investigated by using the sixth-order WKB formula and quasi-resonance modes of the black hole are studied with averaging of Pade approximations as well.

Axion-plasmon or magnetized plasma effect on an observable shadow and gravitational lensing of a Schwarzschild black hole

In this paper, we study the influence of the axion-plasmon, as proposed in (Phys. Rev. Lett. 120, 181803 (2018)) on the optical properties of the Schwarzschild black hole. Our aim is to provide a test to detect the effects of a fixed axion background using black holes. To accomplish our goal, we explore the effect of the axion-plasmon coupling on the motion of photons around the Schwarzschild black hole and check the possibility of observing those effects upon the black hole shadow, the gravitational deflection angle, Einstein rings and shadow images obtained by radially infalling gas on a black hole within a plasma medium. We find that these quantities are indeed affected by the axion-plasmon coupling parameters which consequently generalize some of the well-known results in the literature. It is shown that the size of the black hole shadow decreases with increasing axion-plasmon if observed from sufficiently large distance.

Dynamics of particles and epicyclic motions around Schwarzschild-de-Sitter black hole in perfect fluid dark matter

In this paper we investigate circular orbits for test particles around Schwarzschild-de Sitter (dS) black hole surrounded by perfect fluid dark matter. We determine the region of circular orbits bounded by innermost and outermost stable circular orbits. We show that the impact of the perfect fluid dark matter shrinks the region where circular orbits can exist as the values of both innermost and outermost stable circular orbits decrease. We find that for specific lower and upper values of dark matter parameter there exist double matching values for inner and outermost stable circular orbits. It turns out that the gravitational attraction due to the dark matter contribution dominates over cosmological repulsion. This gives rise to a remarkable result in the Schwarzschild-dS black hole surrounded by dark matter field in contrast to the Schwarzschild-dS metric. Finally, we study epicyclic motion and its frequencies with their applications to twin peak quasi-periodic oscillations (QPO) for various models. We find corresponding values of the black hole parameters which could best fit and explain the observed twin peak QPO object GRS 1915+109 from microquasars.
