Magnetic fields in monoclinic $\alpha$-RuCl$_3$ reveal rhombohedral inclusions underlying apparent oscillations

The majority of research on $\alpha$-RuCl$_3$ has focused on applying in-plane magnetic fields to suppress antiferromagnetic order and induce a quantum spin liquid (QSL). However, this effort has been complicated by the materials temperature-dependent crystal structure and sensitivity to strain-induced stacking disorder, making interpretation of field-induced phenomena contentious. The crystal structure of $\alpha$-RuCl$_3$ has recently been clarified as a function of temperature and sample size, motivating a reassessment of its magnetic properties and connection to proposed spin-liquid signatures. Here, we show that the monoclinic structure can be isolated in nanogram-scale crystals, enabling the study of Kitaev physics in a new regime. We focus on a structurally well-defined monoclinic crystal at low temperature and perform high-resolution magnetotropic susceptibility measurements in several crystal planes. Mapping the AFM phase boundary versus temperature, field, and orientation, we find the monoclinic phase diagram closely resembles rhombohedral crystals but is systematically shifted to higher transition temperatures and critical fields. For $B \parallel a$, we observe a two-step suppression of AFM order, indicating an intermediate ordered phase analogous to the ZZ2 phase reported in rhombohedral samples. Our results show that transitions previously observed beyond the AFM regime under in-plane fields arise from multiple shifted AFM phase boundaries associated with monoclinic inclusions, rather than non-magnetic phases. These findings indicate that features attributed to a QSL are instead due to an incomplete transition from the high-temperature monoclinic to the low-temperature rhombohedral structure. They also highlight the role of structural symmetry and sample homogeneity in interpreting field-induced phenomena in $\alpha$-RuCl$_3$ and related two-dimensional quantum magnets.

FinAgent: An Agentic AI Framework Integrating Personal Finance and Nutrition Planning

The issue of limited household budgets and nutritional demands continues to be a challenge especially in the middle-income environment where food prices fluctuate. This paper introduces a price aware agentic AI system, which combines personal finance management with diet optimization. With household income and fixed expenditures, medical and well-being status, as well as real-time food costs, the system creates nutritionally sufficient meals plans at comparatively reasonable prices that automatically adjust to market changes. The framework is implemented in a modular multi-agent architecture, which has specific agents (budgeting, nutrition, price monitoring, and health personalization). These agents share the knowledge base and use the substitution graph to ensure that the nutritional quality is maintained at a minimum cost. Simulations with a representative Saudi household case study show a steady 12-18\% reduction in costs relative to a static weekly menu, nutrient adequacy of over 95\% and high performance with price changes of 20-30%. The findings indicate that the framework can locally combine affordability with nutritional adequacy and provide a viable avenue of capacity-building towards sustainable and fair diet planning in line with Sustainable Development Goals on Zero Hunger and Good Health.

Agentic AI Framework for Cloudburst Prediction and Coordinated Response

The challenge is growing towards extreme and short-duration rainfall events like a cloudburst that are peculiar to the traditional forecasting systems, in which the predictions and the response are taken as two distinct processes. The paper outlines an agentic artificial intelligence system to study atmospheric water-cycle intelligence, which combines sensing, forecasting, downscaling, hydrological modeling and coordinated response into a single, interconnected, priceless, closed-loop system. The framework uses autonomous but cooperative agents that reason, sense, and act throughout the entire event lifecycle, and use the intelligence of weather prediction to become real-time decision intelligence. Comparison of multi-year radar, satellite, and ground-based evaluation of the northern part of Pakistan demonstrates that the multi-agent configuration enhances forecast reliability, critical success index and warning lead time compared to the baseline models. Population reach was maximised, and errors during evacuation were minimised through communication and routing agents, and adaptive recalibration and transparent auditability were provided by the embedded layer of learning. Collectively, this leads to the conclusion that collaborative AI agents are capable of transforming atmospheric data streams into practicable foresight and provide a platform of scalable adaptive and learning-based climate resilience.

Giant transverse magnetic fluctuations at the edge of re-entrant superconductivity in UTe$_{2}$

UTe$_{2}$ exhibits the remarkable phenomenon of re-entrant superconductivity, whereby the zero-resistance state reappears above 40 tesla after being suppressed with a field of around 10 tesla. One potential pairing mechanism, invoked in the related re-entrant superconductors UCoGe and URhGe, involves transverse fluctuations of a ferromagnetic order parameter. However, the requisite ferromagnetic order - present in both UCoGe and URhGe - is absent in UTe$_{2}$, and magnetization measurements show no sign of strong fluctuations. Here, we measure the magnetotropic susceptibility of UTe$_{2}$ across two field-angle planes. This quantity is sensitive to the magnetic susceptibility in a direction transverse to the applied magnetic field - a quantity that is not accessed in conventional magnetization measurements. We observe a very large decrease in the magnetotropic susceptibility over a broad range of field orientations, indicating a large increase in the transverse magnetic susceptibility. The three superconducting phases of UTe$_{2}$, including the high-field re-entrant phase, surround this region of enhanced susceptibility in the field-angle phase diagram. The strongest transverse susceptibility is found near the critical end point of the high-field metamagnetic transition, suggesting that quantum critical fluctuations of a field-induced magnetic order parameter may be responsible for the large transverse susceptibility, and may provide a pairing mechanism for field-induced superconductivity in UTe$_{2}$.

Complete mapping of magnetic anisotropy for prototype Ising van der Waals FePS$_3$

Several Ising-type magnetic van der Waals (vdW) materials exhibit stable magnetic ground states. Despite these clear experimental demonstrations, a complete theoretical and microscopic understanding of their magnetic anisotropy is still lacking. In particular, the validity limit of identifying their one-dimensional (1-D) Ising nature has remained uninvestigated in a quantitative way. Here we performed the complete mapping of magnetic anisotropy for a prototypical Ising vdW magnet FePS$_3$ for the first time. Combining torque magnetometry measurements with their magnetostatic model analysis and the relativistic density functional total energy calculations, we successfully constructed the three-dimensional (3-D) mappings of the magnetic anisotropy in terms of magnetic torque and energy. The results not only quantitatively confirm that the easy axis is perpendicular to the $ab$ plane, but also reveal the anisotropies within the $ab$, $ac$, and $bc$ planes. Our approach can be applied to the detailed quantitative study of magnetism in vdW materials.

Antiferromagnet-based spintronic functionality by controlling isospin domains in a layered perovskite iridate

The novel electronic state of the canted antiferromagnetic (AFM) insulator, strontium iridate (Sr2IrO4) has been well described by the spin-orbit-entangled isospin Jeff = 1/2, but the role of isospin in transport phenomena remains poorly understood. In this study, antiferromagnet-based spintronic functionality is demonstrated by combining unique characteristics of the isospin state in Sr2IrO4. Based on magnetic and transport measurements, large and highly anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR) is obtained by manipulating the antiferromagnetic isospin domains. First-principles calculations suggest that electrons whose isospin directions are strongly coupled to in-plane net magnetic moment encounter the isospin mismatch when moving across antiferromagnetic domain boundaries, which generates a high resistance state. By rotating a magnetic field that aligns in-plane net moments and removes domain boundaries, the macroscopically-ordered isospins govern dynamic transport through the system, which leads to the extremely angle-sensitive AMR. As with this work that establishes a link between isospins and magnetotransport in strongly spin-orbit-coupled AFM Sr2IrO4, the peculiar AMR effect provides a beneficial foundation for fundamental and applied research on AFM spintronics.
