Simulating cavity QED with spin-orbit coupled Bose-Einstein condensates revisited

Simulating cavity quantum electrodynamics in synthetic platforms offers a promising route to exploring light-matter interactions without real photons, while enabling the transfer of cavity-based techniques to other systems. Among such platforms, Bose-Einstein condensates with synthetic spin-orbit coupling provide a controllable setting where internal and motional degrees of freedom become coupled, mimicking aspects of cavity quantum electrodynamics. In this work, we critically assess the extent to which spin-orbit coupled Bose-Einstein condensates can emulate cavity quantum electrodynamics phenomena, with a focus on squeezing and entanglement generation. We show that spin-orbit coupled Bose-Einstein condensates can faithfully reproduce the physics of a single atom coupled to a quantized field, realizing an analogue of the quantum Rabi model but inherently fail to capture genuine collective effects characteristic of the Dicke model, such as cavity-mediated many-body entanglement. Our results clarify both the potential and the fundamental limitations of spin-orbit coupled Bose-Einstein condensates as analogue quantum simulators of cavity quantum electrodynamics, offering guidance for future strategies to generate and control non-classical states of matter in photon-free, highly tunable platforms.

High-fidelity multipartite entanglement creation in non-Hermitian qubits

Non-Hermitian quantum systems showcase many distinct and intriguing features with no Hermitian counterparts. One of them is the exceptional point which marks the PT (parity and time) symmetry phase transition, where an enhanced spectral sensitivity arises and leads to novel quantum engineering. Here we theoretically study the multipartite entanglement properties in non-Hermitian superconducting qubits, where high-fidelity entangled states can be created under strong driving fields or strong couplings among the qubits. Under an interplay between driving fields, couplings, and non-Hermiticity, we focus on generations of GHZ states or GHZ classes in three and four qubits with all-to-all couplings, which allows a fidelity approaching unity when relatively low non-Hermitian decay rates are considered. This presents an ultimate capability of non-Hermitian qubits to host a genuine and maximal multipartite entanglement. Our results can shed light on novel quantum engineering of multipartite entanglement generations in non-Hermitian qubit systems.

Robustness of tripartite entangled states in passive PT-symmetric qubits

Non-Hermitian quantum systems have attracted significant interest in recent years due to the presence of unique spectral singularities known as exceptional points (EPs), where eigenvalues and eigenvectors coalesce. The drastic changes in these systems around their EPs have led to unique entanglement dynamics, which remained elusive until quite recently. In this work, we theoretically investigate the robustness of tripartite entanglement induced by EPs of the passive PT-symmetric non-Hermitian superconducting qubits, both in stand-alone configurations and hybrid setups with Hermitian qubits. In particular, we consider the qubits with both all-to-all and nearest-neighbour couplings under uniform and non-uniform coupling strengths. Our results reveal that non-Hermitian qubits with all-to-all coupling generate GHZ states, while those with nearest-neighbour interactions produce W states. These entangled states are resilient to non-uniform couplings and off-resonant driving fields. Moreover, the hybrid configurations combining Hermitian and non-Hermitian qubits suggest the importance of EPs for generating and maintaining genuine tripartite entanglement in our system. Additionally, driving the PT-symmetric qubits with a strong Rabi frequency can help sustain tripartite entanglement over time by countering losses, while strong inter-qubit coupling can benefit these entangled states in the low dissipation regime. These findings suggest that exploiting non-Hermitian systems and their associated EPs can create robust entangled states which are useful for both fundamental studies and quantum technologies.

High fidelity control of a many-body Tonks--Girardeau gas with an effective mean-field approach

Shortcuts to adiabaticity (STA) are powerful tools that can be used to control quantum systems with high fidelity. They work particularly well for single particle and non-interacting systems which can be described exactly and which possess invariant or self-similar dynamics. However, finding an exact STA for strongly correlated many-body systems can be difficult, as their complex dynamics may not be easily described, especially for larger systems that do not possess self-similar solutions. Here, we design STAs for one-dimensional bosonic gas in the Tonks--Girardeau limit by using a mean-field approach that succinctly captures the strong interaction effects through a quintic nonlinear term in the Schr\"odinger equation. We show that for the case of the harmonic oscillator with a time-dependent trap frequency the mean-field approach works exactly and recovers the well-known STA from literature. To highlight the robustness of our approach we also show that it works effectively for anharmonic potentials, achieving higher fidelities than other typical control techniques.

Bloch oscillations in supersolids

We show that the motion of an accelerated atomic impurity immersed in a spin-orbit coupled Bose-Einstein condensate in the supersolid stripe phase undergoes oscillations, similar to the well-known phenomenon of Bloch oscillations in solids. While the back-action of the oscillatory movement onto the condensate excites phonon modes inside the supersolid, it does not affect the position of the roton minimum and therefore not the periodicity of the matter wave lattice. The ultimate decay of the oscillations is mostly due to the dispersion of the wavepacket and we show that this can be counteracted to a large extent by assuming that the impurity is a bright soliton.

Controllable optical bistability and Fano line shape in a hybrid optomechanical system assisted by Kerr medium: Possibility of all optical switching

We theoretically analyze the optical and optomechanical nonlinearity present in a hybrid system consisting of a quantum dot(QD) coupled to an optomechanical cavity in the presence of a nonlinear Kerr medium, and show that this hybrid system can be used as an all optical switch. A high degree of control and tunability via the QD-cavity coupling strength, the Kerr and the optomechanical nonlinearity over the bistable behavior shown by the mean intracavity optical field and the power transmission of the weak probe field can be achieved. The results obtained in this investigation has the potential to be used for designing efficient all-optical switch and high sensitive sensors for use in Telecom systems.
