Ruled translating solitons in Minkowski 3-space

We characterize all ruled translating solitons in Minkowski 3-space. In contrast to the Euclidean space, we find ruled translating solitons that are not cylindrical. These surfaces appear when the vector field that defines the rulings, viewed as a curve, is a lightlike straight line. We also classify all cylindrical translating solitons, obtaining surfaces that can be considered as analogous to the grim reapers of Euclidean space, but also other surfaces which have no a counterpart in the Euclidean space.

Singular minimal surfaces which are minimal

In the present paper, we discuss the singular minimal surfaces in a Euclidean 3-space R^{3} which are minimal. In fact, such a surface is nothing but a plane, a trivial outcome. However, a non-trivial outcome is obtained when we modify the usual condition of singular minimality by using a special semi-symmetric metric connection instead of the Levi-Civita connection on R^{3}. With this new connection, we prove that, besides planes, the singular minimal surfaces which are minimal are the generalized cylinders, providing their explicit equations. A trivial outcome is observed when we use a special semi-symmetric non-metric connection. Furthermore, our discussion is adapted to the Lorentz-Minkowski 3-space.

Singular Minimal Translation Graphs in Euclidean Spaces

In this paper, we consider the problem of finding the hypersurface M^n in the Euclidean (n+1)-space R^{n+1} that satisfies an equation of mean curvature type, called singular minimal hypersurface equation. Such an equation physically characterizes the hypersurfaces in the upper halfspace (R^{n+1})_{+} with lowest gravity center, for a fixed unit vector u in R^{n+1} . We first state that a singular minimal cylinder M^n in R^{n+1} is either a hyperplane or a α-catenary cylinder. It is also shown that this result remains true when M^n is a translation hypersurface and u a horizantal vector. As a further application, we prove that a singular minimal translation graph in R^3 of the form z=f(x)+g(y+cx), c in R-{0}, with respect to a certain horizantal vector u is either a plane or a α-catenary cylinder.

Affine factorable surfaces in isotropic spaces

In this paper, we study the problem of finding the affine factorable surfaces in a 3-dimensional isotropic space with prescribed Gaussian (K) and mean (H) curvature. Because the absolute figure two different types of these surfaces appear by permutation of coordinates. We firstly classify the affine factorable surfaces of type 1 with K,H constants. Afterwards, we provide the affine factorable surfaces of type 2 with K=const. and H=0. In addition, in a particular case, the affine factorable surfaces of type 2 with H=const. were obtained.

Translation hypersurfaces with constant curvature in 4-dimensional isotropic space

There exist four non-equivalent types of the translation hypersurfaces in the 4-dimensional isotropic space $\mathbb{I}^{4}$ generated by translating the curves lying in perpendicular $k-$planes $\left(k=2,3\right)$, due to its absolute figure. In arbitrary dimensional case; constant Gauss-Kronecker and mean curvature translation hypersurfaces of type 1, i.e. the hypersurfaces whose the translating curves lie in perpendicular isotropic $2- $planes, were investigated by the same authors in \cite{AO}. The present study concerns such hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{I}^{4}$ of other three types.

Constant curvature surfaces in a pseudo-isotropic space

In this study, we deal with the local structure of curves and surfaces immersed in a pseudo-isotropic space I_{p}^{3} that is a particular Cayley-Klein space. We provide the formulas of curvature, torsion and Frenet trihedron in order for spacelike and timelike curves. The causal character of all admissible surfaces in I_{p}^{3} has to be timelike or lightlike up to its absolute. We introduce the formulas of Gaussian and mean curvature for timelike surfaces in I_{p}^{3}. As applications, we describe the surfaces of revolution which are the orbits of a plane curve under a hyperbolic rotation with constant Gaussian and mean curvature.

Affine translation hypersurfaces in Euclidean and isotropic spaces

In this paper, we extend the notion of affine translation surfaces introduced by Liu and Yu (Proc. Japan Acad. Ser. A Math. Sci. 89, 111--113, 2013) in a Euclidean space R^{3} to higher dimensional ambient spaces. We provide that an affine translation hypersurface of constant Gauss-Kronocker curvature K_{0} in R^{n+1} is a cylinder, i.e. K_{0}=0. As further applications we describe such hypersurfaces in the isotropic spaces satisfying certain conditions on the isotropic curvatures and the Laplacian.

Non-zero constant curvature factorable surfaces in pseudo-Galilean space

Factorable surfaces, i.e. graphs associated with the product of two functions of one variable, constitute a wide class of surfaces. Such surfaces in the pseudo-Galilean space with zero Gaussian and mean curvature were obtained in [1]. In this study, we provide new classification results relating to the factorable surfaces with non-zero Gaussian and mean curvature.

Constant curvature translation surfaces in Galilean 3-space

Total five different types of translation surfaces, based upon planarity of translating curves and the absolute figure, arise in a Galilean 3-space. Excepting the type in which both of translating curves are non-planar we obtain these surfaces with arbitrary constant Gaussian and mean curvature.

Constant curvature factorable surfaces in 3-dimensional isotropic space

In this paper, we study factorable surfaces in a 3-dimensional isotropic space. We classify such surfaces with constant isotropic Gaussian (K) and mean curvature (H). We provide a non-existence result related with the surfaces satisfying H/K=const. Several examples are also illustrated.

Affine translation surfaces in the isotropic 3-space

The isotropic 3-space \mathbb{I}^{3} is a real affine 3-space endowed with the metric dx^{2}+dy^{2}. In this paper we describe Weingarten and linear Weingarten affine translation surfaces in \mathbb{I}^{3}. Further we classify the affine translation surfaces in \mathbb{I}^{3} that satisfy certain equations in terms of the position vector and the Laplace operator.

Certain classifications on surfaces of revolution in a semi-isotropic space

A semi-isotropic space is a real affine 3-space endowed with the non-degenerate metric dx^{2}-dy^{2}. The main purpose of this paper is to describe the surfaces of revolution in the semi-isotropic space that satisfy some equations in terms of the position vector and the Laplace operators with respect to the first and the second fundamental forms.

Linear Weingraten factorable surfaces in isotropic spaces

In this paper, we deal with the linear Weingarten factorable surfaces in the isotropic 3-space I^{3} satisfying the relation aK+bH=c, where K is the relative curvature and H the isotropic mean curvature, a,b,cR. We obtain a complete classification for such surfaces in I^{3}. As a further study, we classify all graph surfaces in I^{3} satisfying the relation K=H^{2}, which is the equality case of the famous Euler inequality for surfaces in a Euclidean space.

Isotropic geometry of graph surfaces associated with product production functions in economics

A production function is a mathematical formalization in economics which denotes the relations between the output generated by a firm, an industry or an economy and the inputs that have been used in obtaining it. In this paper, we study the product production functions of 2 variables in terms of the geometry of their associated graph surfaces in the isotropic 3-space I^{3}. In particular, we derive several classification results for the graph surfaces of product production functions in I^{3} with constant curvature.

Classification results on surfaces in the isotropic 3-space

The isotropic 3-space I^3 which is one of the Cayley--Klein spaces is obtained from the Euclidean space by substituting the usual Euclidean distance with the isotropic distance. In the present paper, we give several classifications on the surfaces in I^3 with the constant relative curvature (analogue of the Gaussian curvature) and the constant isotropic mean curvature. In particular, we classify the helicoidal surfaces in I^3 with constant curvature and analyze some special curves on these.
