A dual description of quarks and baryons: Quarkyonic matter within a relativistic quark model

We investigate quarkyonic matter within a relativistic quark model by combining the dual quarkyonic picture with the quark-meson coupling (QMC) model. Using relativistic gaussian quark wavefunctions for the nucleon, we construct the quarkyonic QMC (QQMC) model and study the properties of symmetric nuclear matter and pure neutron matter. We find that the quark saturation density depends sensitively on the nucleon size parameter and that nuclear interactions quantitatively modify the high-density behavior of the equation of state (EoS) and the sound velocity. In particular, the QQMC model yields an earlier onset of quark saturation than the noninteracting gaussian quarkyonic (GQ) model, indicating that nuclear interactions enhance the stiffening of the EoS in the quarkyonic regime.

Gamow-Teller strength of $^{12,14,16}$C within deformed quasiparticle random-phase approximation

We investigate the Gamow-Teller (GT) transition strength distributions in the light carbon isotopes $^{12,14,16}$C within the framework of the deformed quasiparticle random-phase approximation (DQRPA). Nuclear deformation is explicitly incorporated through Skyrme Hartree-Fock mean-field calculations combined with the QRPA formalism. The residual particle-hole $(p-h)$ and particle-particle $(p-p)$ interactions are derived from Brückner $G$-matrix calculations based on the CD-Bonn potential, and their impact on the low-lying GT strengths is systematically examined by varying the corresponding interaction strengths. We find that nuclear deformation, associated with a reduced spin-orbit strength, plays a significant role in interpreting the GT strength distribution of $^{12}$C. In contrast, the calculated GT$^{(-)}$ strength distribution of $^{14}$C in the spherical limit reproduces the essential features of the experimental $(p,n)$ charge-exchange data. The case of $^{16}$C reveals additional high-lying GT strength associated with deformation-induced configuration mixing.

Probing Neutron Skins with KDAR Neutrinos: From Coherent to Diffractive Elastic Neutrino--Nucleus Scattering

We investigate coherent elastic neutrino--nucleus scattering (CE$ν$NS) induced by pion--decay--at--rest ($π$DAR) and kaon--decay--at--rest (KDAR) neutrinos, with emphasis on the transition from strict coherence to the diffractive regime. Organizing CE$ν$NS observables in terms of the dimensionless variable $qR$, we show that $π$DAR measurements remain confined to the near--coherent region for all nuclei, whereas KDAR neutrinos ($E_ν=236$~MeV) extend the kinematics into $qR\gtrsim1$, where recoil spectra develop genuine shape sensitivity to the nuclear weak form factor. Using representative light, medium--mass, and heavy nuclei ($^{12}$C, $^{40}$Ca, $^{48}$Ca, and $^{208}$Pb), we examine relevant cross sections and quantify the statistical sensitivity to the neutron skin thickness achievable at a JSNS$^2$--like facility. For a total exposure of 10~ton$\cdot$year and realistic KDAR fluences, projected $1σ$ sensitivities reach $ΔR_{np}^{\,(1 σ)}$ $\simeq0.09$--$0.02$~fm for $^{48}$Ca and $\simeq0.07$--$0.02$~fm for $^{208}$Pb as the fluence increases. These sensitivities are competitive with, and complementary to, parity--violating electron--scattering measurements such as CREX and PREX, while relying on an electroweakly clean neutral--current probe with distinct systematic uncertainties. Our results establish KDAR--based CE$ν$NS as a quantitatively robust and complementary avenue for probing neutron skins and nuclear weak densities beyond the coherent limit.

Constraining the $ΛΛ$ interaction with terrestrial and astronomical data

Terrestrial double-$Λ$ hypernuclear data and astronomical observations of neutron stars provide complementary constraints on the $ΛΛ$ interaction. In this work, we investigate the $ΛΛ$ interaction within a Skyrme energy density functional framework based on the KIDS (Korea-IBS-Daegu-SKKU) models. We employ a Skyrme-type $ΛΛ$ interaction that includes the standard $s$- and $p$-wave terms, as well as a density-dependent term that effectively represents an $NΛΛ$ three-body force. The $s$-wave terms are constrained using data on double-$Λ$ hypernuclei supplemented by pseudodata obtained from core + $2Λ$ three-body model calculations including heavier hypernuclei. We show that the data on heavier systems are essential to simultaneously constrain the two $s$-wave parameters. We further explore the impact of the $p$-wave and $NΛΛ$ components on the neutron-star properties and find that appropriate repulsive contributions of these terms yield consistency with current neutron-star mass-radius observations. These results indicate that the present framework provides phenomenologically acceptable equations of state for dense $(N,Λ)$ matter over a wide range of densities and highlight the importance of future experimental data on heavier double-$Λ$ hypernuclei.

Octet baryon electroweak form factors in dense nuclear matter

Motivated by the necessity of developing theoretical models for studying the electroweak structure of baryons in a nuclear medium, we apply a covariant quark model to study interactions of baryons with nuclear matter. The electromagnetic and axial form factors of the octet baryons are determined by combining a covariant quark model that takes into account the meson cloud dressing of the baryon cores, developed for free space, with the quark-meson coupling model in the extension to the nuclear medium. We discuss the medium modifications on the electroweak form factors of octet baryons for the range of densities from $ρ=0$ up to $ρ=2 ρ_0$, where $ρ_0= 0.15$ fm$^{-3}$ is the normal nuclear matter density. We also study how the shape of the form factors is modified in finite nuclei due to the profile of the nuclear density distributions compared with calculations using the average density of the nucleus

Timelike electromagnetic form factors of hyperons at large $q^2$

In the last few years there has been considerable progress in the study of the electromagnetic form factors of baryons in the timelike region, through electron-positron scattering, with increasing squared transfer momentum $q^2$. The modulus of the electric ($G_E$) and magnetic ($G_M$) form factors has been measured for nucleons, hyperons and other baryons at BaBar, CLEO, Belle and BESIII. The novel measurements motivated the extension of a covariant quark model, developed to the spacelike region ($q^2 \le 0$), to the timelike region, without any further parameter fitting. The extension is based on asymptotic relations derived from analyticity and unitarity, valid for the large-$q^2$ region. We use the model to make predictions for the effective form factor $|G|$ (combination of $G_E$ and $G_M$) and the ratio $|G_E/G_M|$ for spin 1/2 hyperons at large $q^2$ (above 10 GeV$^2$). Our calculations are in good agreement with the data from CLEO and BESIII for $Λ$, $Σ^+$ and $Ξ^-$ above $q^2=15$ GeV$^2$. Upcoming data for $Σ^0$, $Σ^-$ and $Ξ^-$ at large $q^2$ may be used to further test our predictions. We also compare our model calculations with the scarce available data for $|G_E/G_M|$. We conclude that the present $q^2$ range is not large enough to test our calculations, but that a more definitive test can be made by experiments above $q^2=20$ GeV$^2$.

Constraining the nuclear equation of state from terrestrial experiments and neutron star observations using relativistic mean-field models

We investigate the nuclear equation of state (EoS) for isospin-asymmetric matter using a new set of RMF interactions with the $σ$-$δ$ and $ω$-$ρ$ mixing, referred to as the OMEG family. These interactions are optimized so as to reproduce both terrestrial nuclear measurements and astrophysical constraints extracted from NICER and GW170817. The $σ$-$δ$ mixing softens the nuclear symmetry energy and pressure around twice the saturation density, which enables relatively small neutron-star radii and tidal deformabilities while keeping the nuclear EoS sufficiently stiff at high densities to support $2M_{\odot}$ neutron stars. We find that the curvature parameter, $K_{\textrm{sym}}$, plays an important role in realizing the soft-to-hard behavior of the nuclear EoS, and the astrophysical data favor small or even negative values of $K_{\textrm{sym}}$.

High Energy Particle Production from Proton Synchrotron Radiation in Strong Magnetic Fields in Relativistic Quantum Field Theory

We investigate photon, pion, and rho-meson production from proton synchrotron radiation in the presence of strong magnetic fields. The proton decay widths and the luminosities of the emitted particles are calculated within a relativistic quantum framework that incorporates Landau quantization. A scaling rule is derived for the transition probability between different Landau levels. This allows an evaluation of transitions for extremely high Landau numbers exceeding $10^{15}$. Furthermore, we calculate the momentum distribution of the emitted particles by properly including the proton recoil effect associated with particle emission. The results differ significantly from conventional semiclassical approaches.

Upper Limit of Fusion Reactivity in Laser-Driven $p+{^{11}{\rm B}}$ Reaction

We explore the averaged fusion reactivity of the $p+{^{11}{\rm B}}$ reaction in tabletop laser experiments using a plasma expansion model. We investigate the energy distribution of proton beams accelerated by lasers as a function of electron temperature $T_e$ and the dimensionless acceleration time $ω_{pi} t_{\rm acc}$, where $ω_{pi}$ is the ion plasma frequency. By combining these distributions with the fusion cross-section, we identify the optimal conditions that maximize the fusion reactivity, with $\left\langle σv \right\rangle = 8.12 \times 10^{-16}\,{\rm cm^3/s}$ at $k_B T_e = 10.0\,{\rm MeV}$ and $ω_{pi} t_{\rm acc} = 0.503$. These findings suggest that an upper limit exists for the fusion reactivity achievable in laser-driven $p+{^{11}{\rm B}}$ fusion experiments, even under optimized conditions.

Equation of state for hyperonic neutron-star matter in SU(3) flavor symmetry

Using a relativistic mean-field model calibrated to finite-nucleus observables and bulk properties of dense nuclear matter, we investigate hyperonic neutron-star matter within an SU(3) flavor-symmetry scheme. To retain SU(6)-based couplings within SU(3) flavor symmetry, we add a quartic $ϕ$ self-interaction and $ϕ$-$ρ$ mixing. We demonstrate the roles of $α_{v}$ ($F/(F+D)$ ratio), $θ_{v}$ (mixing angle), and $z_{v}$ (singlet-to-octet coupling ratio) in SU(3)-invariant vector-meson couplings. It is found that $z_{v}$ predominantly controls the maximum mass of a neutron star, and $2M_{\odot}$ neutron stars can be supported for $z_{v}\le0.15$. The $α_{v}$ also helps sustain large masses, whereas $θ_{v}$ has a smaller effect on neutron-star properties. This SU(3) framework reconciles nuclear and astrophysical constraints, and offers a plausible resolution to the hyperon puzzle.

Empirical Reconstruction of the JSNS$^2$ KDAR $ν_μ$-$^{12}$C Missing-Energy Spectrum with a Two-Ex-Gaussian and Generalized-Tail Model

Recent analyses of the JSNS$^2$ monoenergetic $ν_μ$ scattering on $^{12}$C at 235.5~MeV have compared the measured missing-energy spectrum with several nuclear models, including \textsc{NuWro}, \textsc{GiBUU}, and RMF+Achilles. While these models reproduce the overall peak position, their respective $χ^2$ values of $35.5$, $176.8$, and $58.1$ indicate that none can simultaneously describe the spectral width and the high-energy tail, reflecting limitations in the treatment of binding energy, two-particle--two-hole (2p-2h) excitations, and final-state interactions (FSI). To address these discrepancies, we introduce an empirical yet physically motivated representation of the spectrum based on two exponentially modified Gaussian (ex-Gaussian) components for p- and s-shell knockout and a generalized power-exponential continuum term describing multinucleon and FSI-induced strength. The fit reproduces the JSNS$^2$ data within the fitted energy range with $χ^2=8.0$ for 6 degrees of freedom. yielding parameters that quantify asymmetric broadening of the s-shell while preserving a narrow quasielastic p-shell response. This compact model demonstrates that a minimal empirical framework can capture key features of the nuclear response and provides a useful reference for phenomenological comparisons and future studies of quasielastic and 2p-2h dynamics in the few-hundred-MeV regime.

RENE experiment for the sterile neutrino search using reactor neutrinos

This paper summarizes the details of the Reactor Experiment for Neutrinos and Exotics (RENE) experiment. It covers the detector construction, Monte Carlo (MC) simulation study, and physics expectations. The primary goal of the RENE project is to investigate the sterile neutrino oscillation at $Δ{m}^{2}_{41}\sim 2\,{\rm{eV}^{2}}$. which overlap with the allowed region predicted by the Reactor Antineutrino Anomaly (RAA). On the other hand, the STEREO and PROSPECT experiments have excluded certain regions of the parameter space with 95 \% confidence level (C.L.), while the joint study conducted by RENO and NEOS suggests possible indications of sterile neutrinos at $Δ{m}^{2}_{41}\sim2.4\,{\rm{eV}^{2}}$ and $\sim{1.7}{\,\rm{eV}^{2}}$ with sin$^{2}θ_{41} < 0.01$. Accordingly, a more meticulous investigation of these remaining regions continues to be a scientifically valuable endeavor. This paper reports the technical details of the detector and physics objectives.

Charge symmetry breaking effects of $ω$-$ρ^0$ mixing in relativistic mean-field model

We present a relativistic mean-field model that incorporates charge symmetry breaking (CSB) of nuclear force via $ ω$-$ ρ^0 $ meson mixing, along with corrections to the electromagnetic interaction including the nucleon form factors, first-order vacuum polarization, and Coulomb exchange and pairing terms. The model parameters are refitted using the mass differences of $ T = 1/2 $ mirror nuclei and ground-state properties of magic nuclei, yielding DD-ME-CSB parameter set. The DD-ME-CSB parameter set reproduces the mass differences of mirror nuclei reasonably well up to $ T = 2 $, demonstrating the importance of $ ω$-$ ρ^0 $ mixing. A connection of the present model to a Skyrme-type CSB interaction is also established through a gradient expansion of the energy density functional.

KDAR neutrino scattering for $^{12}$C target via charged current and muon angular distribution

We calculate muon-neutrino ($ν_μ$) scattering off $^{12}$C via charged current (CC) by exploiting the 236 MeV ${ν_μ}$ from the kaon-decay-at-rest (KDAR). In this energy region, since both inelastic scattering below the quasielastic (QE) region and the QE scattering contribute simultaneously, we combine the inelastic scattering obtained by the QRPA and the QE scattering obtained by distorted wave born approximation (DWBA) based on the relativistic mean field (RMF) theory. We compare the results to the data from MiniBooNE. Further, since the KDR $ν_μ$ CC scattering may have angle dependence of outgoing muon, we investigate the differential angular dependent cross section in the ${ν_μ}$-$^{12}$C scattering and compare to the results by $ν_e$-$^{12}$C scattering. These results could be useful for the calibration of the forthcoming KDAR neutrino cross section experiments.

Electroweak form factors of baryons in dense nuclear matter

There is evidence that the properties of hadrons are modified in a nuclear medium. Information about the medium modifications of the internal structure of hadrons is fundamental for the study of dense nuclear matter and high-energy processes, including heavy-ion and nucleus--nucleus collisions. At the moment, however, empirical information about medium modifications of hadrons is limited; therefore, theoretical studies are essential for progress in the field. In the present work, we review theoretical studies of the electromagnetic and axial form factors of octet baryons in symmetric nuclear matter. The calculations are based on a model that takes into account the degrees of freedom revealed in experimental studies of low and intermediate square transfer momentum $q^2=-Q^2$: valence quarks and meson cloud excitations of baryon cores. The formalism combines a covariant constituent quark model, developed for a free space (vacuum) with the quark--meson coupling model for extension to the nuclear medium. We conclude that the nuclear medium modifies the baryon properties differently according to the flavor content of the baryons and the medium density. The effects of the medium increase with density and are stronger (quenched or enhanced) for light baryons than for heavy baryons. In particular, the in-medium neutrino--nucleon and antineutrino--nucleon cross-sections are reduced compared to the values in free space. The proposed formalism can be extended to densities above the normal nuclear density and applied to neutrino--hyperon and antineutrino--hyperon scattering in dense nuclear matter.

Weak interaction axial form factors of the octet baryons in nuclear medium

We study the axial-vector and the induced pseudoscalar form factors associated with the weak transitions between the octet baryon members in nuclear medium, using a covariant constituent quark model. We extend previous calculations of the axial transition form factors from the vacuum (free space) to the nuclear medium (symmetric nuclear matter). The extension of the model to the nuclear medium takes into account the modifications of the properties of hadrons in the medium (masses and coupling constants), as determined by the quark-meson coupling model. The axial-vector ($G_A$) and the induced pseudoscalar ($G_P$) form factors are evaluated for different values of the nuclear density $ρ$ in terms of the square transfer momentum $q^2= -Q^2$. We conclude that, in general, the $G_A$ and $G_P$ form factors are reduced in the nuclear medium. The reduction is stronger for light baryons and high densities. The medium modifications are milder for the heavier octet baryons, particularly at large $Q^2$. The calculations presented here can be used to estimate the cross sections of neutrino and antineutrino scattering with nucleus, and neutrino and antineutrino scattering with hyperons bound to a nucleus, as well as those in the cores of compact stars.

Constraining Anisotropic Universe Through Big Bang Nucleosynthesis: A Case Study of The Bianchi Type-I Universe

The isotropy and homogeneity of our Universe are the cardinal principles of modern cosmology built on the definition of metric through the prescription by Friedmann-Lema$\hat{i}$tre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW). From the aspects of geometry, the presence of anisotropy, inhomogeneity, or both are allowed in the metrics defined as the Bianchi type I and V metrics. In this letter, the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) formalism, and the latest observational constraints on nuclear abundances are being used to put bounds on the global anisotropy offered in the Bianchi type I metrics, providing a new path to explore in the background of global anisotropy.

Precision Analysis of $\mathrm{^{12}C / ^{13}C}$ Ratios in Orion IRc2 Acetylene Isotopologues via $χ^2$ Fitting

We present a detailed analysis of acetylene (C$_2$H$_2$) and its isotopologues in the Orion IRc2 region, focusing on the determination of $^{12}$C/$^{13}$C isotopic ratios using high-resolution infrared spectra from SOFIA. By employing a robust $χ^2$ fitting method, we simultaneously determined temperature and column density, achieving a $^{12}$C/$^{13}$C ratio of $18.72^{+1.54}_{-1.46}$ for the blue clump and $15.07^{+1.61}_{-1.60}$ for the red clump. These results revealed significant discrepancies with the traditional rotational diagram method, which overestimated the ratios by 12.1% and 23.9%, respectively. Our $χ^2$ approach also reduced uncertainties by up to 75%, providing more precise and reliable isotopic ratios. Additionally, we extended the analysis to isotopologues not covered in HITRAN, calculating vibrational and rotational constants through quantum chemical calculations. This allowed us to model subtle isotopic shifts induced by $^{13}$C and deuterium substitution, enabling accurate isotopologue detection in astrophysical environments. The Python package (TOPSEGI) developed in this study facilitates efficient $χ^2$ fitting and isotopic ratio analysis, making it a valuable tool for future high-resolution observations. This work highlights the critical role of advanced spectral models and fitting techniques in understanding isotopic fractionation and the chemical evolution of interstellar matter.
