Amplitude analysis of the $χ_{c1} \to ηπ^+π^-$ decays

Using $448.0 \times 10^6$~$ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, an amplitude analysis is performed for $ψ(3686)\toγχ_{c1}$, $χ_{c1}\toηπ^+π^-$ decays. The most dominant two-body structure observed is $a_0(980)^{\pm}π^{\mp}$; $a_0(980)^{\pm}\toηπ^{\pm}$. The $a_0(980)$ line shape is modeled using a dispersion relation, and a significant non-zero $a_0(980)$ coupling to the $η^{\prime}π$ channel is measured. We observe $χ_{c1}\to a_2(1700)π$ production for the first time, with a significance larger than 17$σ$. The production of mesons with exotic quantum numbers, $J^{PC}=1^{-+}$, is investigated, and upper limits for the branching fractions $χ_{c1}\to π_1(1400)^{\pm}π^{\mp}$, $χ_{c1}\to π_1(1600)^{\pm}π^{\mp}$, and $χ_{c1}\toπ_1(2015)^{\pm}π^{\mp}$, with subsequent $π_1(X)^{\pm} \to ηπ^{\pm}$ decay, are determined.

Luminosity measurements for the R scan experiment at BESIII

By analyzing the large-angle Bhabha scattering events $e^{+}e^{-}$ $\to$ ($γ$)$e^{+}e^{-}$ and diphoton events $e^{+}e^{-}$ $\to$ $γγ$ for the data sets collected at center-of-mass (c.m.) energies between 2.2324 and 4.5900 GeV (131 energy points in total) with the upgraded Beijing Spectrometer (BESIII) at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider (BEPCII), the integrated luminosities have been measured at the different c.m. energies, individually. The results are the important inputs for R value and $J/ψ$ resonance parameter measurements.

Cross section measurements of $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow p \bar{p} π^{0}$ at center-of-mass energies between 4.008 and 4.600 GeV

Based on $e^+e^-$ annihilation data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at 13 center of mass energies from 4.008 to 4.600 GeV, measurements of the Born cross section of $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow p \bar{p} π^{0}$ are performed. No significant resonant structure is observed in the measured energy-dependent cross section. The upper limit on the Born cross section of $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow Y(4260) \rightarrow p \bar{p} π^{0}$ at the 90\% C.L. is determined to be 0.01 pb.

Measurements of the branching fractions for $D^+\to K^0_SK^0_SK^+$, $K^0_SK^0_Sπ^+$ and $D^0\to K^0_SK^0_S$, $K^0_SK^0_SK^0_S$

By analyzing $2.93\ \rm fb^{-1}$ of data taken at the $ψ(3770)$ resonance peak with the BESIII detector, we measure the branching fractions for the hadronic decays $D^+\to K^0_SK^0_S K^+$, $D^+\to K^0_SK^0_S π^+$, $D^0\to K^0_S K^0_S$ and $D^0\to K^0_SK^0_SK^0_S$. They are determined to be ${\mathcal B}(D^+\to K^0_SK^0_SK^+)=(2.54 \pm 0.05_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.12_{\rm sys.})\times 10^{-3}$, ${\mathcal B}(D^+\to K^0_SK^0_Sπ^+)=(2.70 \pm 0.05_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.12_{\rm sys.})\times 10^{-3}$, ${\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^0_SK^0_S)=(1.67 \pm 0.11_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.11_{\rm sys.})\times 10^{-4}$ and ${\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^0_SK^0_SK^0_S)=(7.21 \pm 0.33_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.44_{\rm sys.})\times 10^{-4}$, where the second one is measured for the first time and the others are measured with significantly improved precision over the previous measurements.

Measurement of the Absolute Branching Fraction for $Λ_c^+\rightarrow Λμ^+ν_μ$

We report the first measurement of the absolute branching fraction for $Λ^+_{c}\rightarrow Λμ^+ν_μ$. This measurement is based on a sample of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=4.6$ GeV collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage rings. The sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 567 pb$^{-1}$. The branching fraction is determined to be $\mathcal B({Λ^+_c\rightarrow Λμ^+ν_μ})=(3.49\pm0.46({\rm stat})\pm0.27({\rm syst}))\%$. In addition, we calculate the ratio $\mathcal{B}(Λ^+_c\rightarrow Λμ^+ν_μ)/\mathcal{B}(Λ^+_c\rightarrow Λe^+ν_{e})$ to be $0.96\pm0.16({\rm stat})\pm0.04({\rm syst})$.

The MuPix Telescope: A Thin, high Rate Tracking Telescope

The MuPix Telescope is a particle tracking telescope, optimized for tracking low momentum particles and high rates. It is based on the novel High-Voltage Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (HV-MAPS), designed for the Mu3e tracking detector. The telescope represents a first application of the HV-MAPS technology and also serves as test bed of the Mu3e readout chain. The telescope consists of up to eight layers of the newest prototypes, the MuPix7 sensors, which send data self-triggered via fast serial links to FPGAs, where the data is time-ordered and sent to the PC. A particle hit rate of 1 MHz per layer could be processed. Online tracking is performed with a subset of the incoming data. The general concept of the telescope, chip architecture, readout concept and online reconstruction are described. The performance of the sensor and of the telescope during test beam measurements are presented.

MuPix7 - A fast monolithic HV-CMOS pixel chip for Mu3e

The MuPix7 chip is a monolithic HV-CMOS pixel chip, thinned down to 50 μm. It provides continuous self-triggered, non-shuttered readout at rates up to 30 Mhits/chip of 3x3 mm^2 active area and a pixel size of 103x80 μm^2. The hit efficiency depends on the chosen working point. Settings with a power consumption of 300 mW/cm^2 allow for a hit efficiency >99.5%. A time resolution of 14.2 ns (Gaussian sigma) is achieved. Latest results from 2016 test beam campaigns are shown.

Ultra-low material pixel layers for the Mu3e experiment

The upcoming Mu3e experiment will search for the charged lepton flavour violating decay of a muon at rest into three electrons. The maximal energy of the electrons is 53 MeV, hence a low material budget is a key performance requirement for the tracking detector. In this paper we summarize our approach to meet the requirement of about 0.1 % of a radiation length per pixel detector layer. This includes the choice of thinned active monolithic pixel sensors in HV-CMOS technology, ultra-thin flexible printed circuits, and helium gas cooling.

Observation of $e^{+}e^{-} \to η^{\prime} J/ψ$ at center-of-mass energies between 4.189 and 4.600 GeV

The process $e^{+}e^{-}\to η^{\prime} J/ψ$ is observed for the first time with a statistical significance of $8.6σ$ at center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} = 4.226$ GeV and $7.3σ$ at $\sqrt{s} = 4.258$ GeV using data samples collected with the BESIII detector. The Born cross sections are measured to be $(3.7 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.3)$ and $(3.9 \pm 0.8 \pm 0.3)$ pb at $\sqrt{s} = 4.226$ and $4.258$ GeV, respectively, where the first errors are statistical and the second systematic. Upper limits at the 90% confidence level of the Born cross sections are also reported at other 12 energy points.

Observation of an anomalous line shape of the $η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$ mass spectrum near the $p\bar{p}$ mass threshold in $J/ψ\rightarrowγη^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$

Using $1.09\times10^{9}$ $J/ψ$ events collected by the BESIII experiment in 2012, we study the $J/ψ\rightarrowγη^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$ process and observe a significant abrupt change in the slope of the $η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$ invariant mass distribution at the proton-antiproton ($p\bar{p}$) mass threshold. We use two models to characterize the $η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$ line shape around $1.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2}$: one which explicitly incorporates the opening of a decay threshold in the mass spectrum (Flatté formula), and another which is the coherent sum of two resonant amplitudes. Both fits show almost equally good agreement with data, and suggest the existence of either a broad state around $1.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2}$ with strong couplings to $p\bar{p}$ final states or a narrow state just below the $p\bar{p}$ mass threshold. Although we cannot distinguish between the fits, either one supports the existence of a $p\bar{p}$ molecule-like state or bound state with greater than $7σ$ significance.

New and updated convex shape models of asteroids based on optical data from a large collaboration network

Asteroid modeling efforts in the last decade resulted in a comprehensive dataset of almost 400 convex shape models and their rotation states. This amount already provided a deep insight into physical properties of main-belt asteroids or large collisional families. We aim to increase the number of asteroid shape models and rotation states. Such results are an important input for various further studies such as analysis of asteroid physical properties in different populations, including smaller collisional families, thermophysical modeling, and scaling shape models by disk-resolved images, or stellar occultation data. This provides, in combination with known masses, bulk density estimates, but constrains also theoretical collisional and evolutional models of the Solar System. We use all available disk-integrated optical data (i.e., classical dense-in-time photometry obtained from public databases and through a large collaboration network as well as sparse-in-time individual measurements from a few sky surveys) as an input for the convex inversion method, and derive 3D shape models of asteroids, together with their rotation periods and orientations of rotation axes. The key ingredient is the support of more that one hundred observers who submit their optical data to publicly available databases. We present updated shape models for 36 asteroids, for which mass estimates are currently available in the literature or their masses will be most likely determined from their gravitational influence on smaller bodies, which orbital deflection will be observed by the ESA Gaia astrometric mission. This was achieved by using additional optical data from recent apparitions for the shape optimization. Moreover, we also present new shape model determinations for 250 asteroids, including 13 Hungarias and 3 near-Earth asteroids.

Observation of $χ_{c1}$ decays into vector meson pairs $ϕϕ$, $ωω$, and $ωϕ$

Decays of $χ_{c1}$ to vector meson pairs $ϕϕ$, $ωω$ and $ωϕ$ are observed for the first time using $(106\pm4)\times 10^6$ $\psip$ events accumulated at the BESIII detector at the BEPCII $e^+e^-$ collider. The branching fractions are measured to be $(4.4\pm 0.3\pm 0.5)\times 10^{-4}$, $(6.0\pm 0.3\pm 0.7)\times 10^{-4}$, and $(2.2\pm 0.6\pm 0.2)\times 10^{-5}$, for $χ_{c1}\to ϕϕ$, $ωω$, and $ωϕ$, respectively. The observation of $χ_{c1}$ decays into a pair of vector mesons $ϕϕ$, $ωω$ and $ωϕ$ indicates that the hadron helicity selection rule is significantly violated in $χ_{cJ}$ decays. In addition, the measurement of $χ_{cJ}\to ωϕ$ gives the rate of doubly OZI-suppressed decay. Branching fractions for $χ_{c0}$ and $χ_{c2}$ decays into other vector meson pairs are also measured with improved precision.

Partial wave analysis of $ψ(2S) \to p \bar{p}η$

Using a sample of $1.06 \times 10^{8}$ $ψ(2S)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, the decay $ψ(2S) \to p \bar{p}η$ is studied. A partial wave analysis determines that the intermediate state N(1535) with a mass of $1524\pm5^{+10}_{-4}$ MeV/$c^2$ and a width of $130^{+27+57}_{-24-10}$ MeV/$c^2$ is dominant in the decay; the product branching fraction is determined to be $B(ψ(2S) \to N(1535)\bar{p})\times B(N(1535)\to pη)+c.c. = (5.2\pm0.3^{+3.2}_{-1.2})\times 10^{-5}$. Furthermore, the branching fraction of $ψ(2S) \to ηp \bar{p}$ is measured to be $(6.4\pm0.2\pm0.6)\times 10^{-5}$.

Research Proposal for an Experiment to Search for the Decay μ -> eee

We propose an experiment (Mu3e) to search for the lepton flavour violating decay mu+ -> e+e-e+. We aim for an ultimate sensitivity of one in 10^16 mu-decays, four orders of magnitude better than previous searches. This sensitivity is made possible by exploiting modern silicon pixel detectors providing high spatial resolution and hodoscopes using scintillating fibres and tiles providing precise timing information at high particle rates.

Partial wave analysis of $J/ψ\to γηη$

Based on a sample of $2.25\times 10^{8}$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, a full partial wave analysis on $J/ψ\toγηη$ was performed using the relativistic covariant tensor amplitude method. The results show that the dominant $0^{++}$ and $2^{++}$ components are from the $f_0(1710)$, $f_0(2100)$, $f_0(1500)$, $f_2'(1525)$, $f_2(1810)$ and $f_2(2340)$. The resonance parameters and branching fractions are also presented.

Evidence for the Direct Two-Photon Transition from $ψ(3686)$ to $J/ψ$

The two-photon transition $ψ(3686)\toγγJ/ψ$ is studied in a sample of 106 million $ψ(3686)$ decays collected by the BESIII detector. The branching fraction is measured to be $(3.1\pm0.6(\unit{stat})^{+0.8}_{-1.0}(\unit{syst})) \times10^{-4}$ using $J/ψ\to e^+e^-$ and $J/ψ\toμ^+μ^-$ decays, and its upper limit is estimated to be $4.5\times10^{-4}$ at the 90% conference level. This work represents the first measurement of a two-photon transition among charmonium states. The orientation of the $ψ(3686)$ decay plane and the $J/ψ$ polarization in this decay are also studied. In addition, the product branching fractions of sequential $E1$ transitions $ψ(3686)\toγχ_{cJ}, χ_{cJ}\toγJ/ψ(J=0,1,2)$ are reported.

Experimental study of psi' decays to K+K- pi^0 and K+K- eta

Using $(106\pm4)\times 10^6$ $\psip$ events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII $e^+e^-$ collider, we present measurements of the branching fractions for psi' decays to $K^{+}K^{-}π^{0}$ and $K^{+}K^{-}η$. In these final states, the decay $ψ'\to K_2^{*}(1430)^+K^-+c.c.$ is observed for the first time, and its branching fraction is measured to be $(7.12\pm{0.62}{\rm (stat.)}^{+1.13}_{-0.61}{\rm (syst.)})\times 10^{-5}$, which indicates a violation of the helicity selection rule in $\psip$ decays. The branching fractions of $ψ'\to K^*(892)^+K^-+c.c., ϕη, ϕπ^0$ are also measured. The measurements are used to test the QCD predictions on charmonium decays.

First observation of the isospin violating decay $J/ψ\rightarrow Λ\barΣ^{0}+c.c.$

Using a sample of $(225.2\pm 2.8)\times 10^6$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we present results of a study of $J/ψ\rightarrow γΛ\barΛ$ and report the first observation of the isospin violating decay $J/ψ\rightarrowΛ\barΣ^{0}+c.c.$, in which $\barΣ^{0}$ decays to $γ\barΛ$. The measured branching fractions are $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\rightarrow\barΛΣ^{0}$) = $(1.46\pm0.11\pm0.12) \times10^{-5}$ and $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\rightarrowΛ\bar{Σ^{0}}$) = $(1.37\pm0.12\pm0.11) \times10^{-5}$. We search for $Λ(1520) \rightarrow γΛ$ decay, and find no evident signal, and an upper limit for the product branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\rightarrowΛ\barΛ(1520)+c.c.)\times \mathcal{B}(Λ(1520)\rightarrowγΛ)<4.1 \times10^{-6}$ is set at the 90% confidence level. We also report the observation of $η_{c}\rightarrowΛ\barΛ$ in $J/ψ\rightarrow γη_{c}$, $η_{c}\rightarrowΛ\barΛ$ and measure the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(η_{c}\rightarrowΛ\barΛ) =(1.16\pm0.12 (stat)\pm0.19(syst)\pm0.28(PDG))\times10^{-3}$.
