Local rigidity for PGL(3,C)-representations of 3-manifold groups

Let M be a non-compact hyperbolic 3-manifold that has a triangulation by positively oriented ideal tetraedra. We explain how to produce local coordinates for the variety defined by the gluing equations for PGL(3,C)-representations. In particular we prove local rigidity of the "geometric" representation in PGL(3,C), recovering a recent result of Menal-Ferrer and Porti. More generally we give a criterion for local rigidty of PGL(3,C)-representations and provide detailed analysis of the figure eight knot sister manifold exhibiting the different possibilities that can occur.

Non-commutative Combinatorial Inverse Systems

We introduce the notion of a combinatorial inverse system in non-commutative variables. We present two important examples, some conjectures and results. These conjectures and results were suggested and supported by computer investigations.

A Filtration of (q,t)-Catalan numbers

We define new generalizations of (q,t)-Catalan numbers applying nabla operator on k-Schur functions indexed by column partitions. In some special cases, we give a combinatorial interpretation of these numbers using configurations of Dyck paths. In some other special cases, we also interpret these new polynomial as Hilbert series of explicit sub-modules of the alternating diagonal harmonics built using differential operators.

A non-commutative generalization of $k$-Schur functions

We introduce non-commutative analogues of $k$-Schur functions of Lapointe-Lascoux and Morse. We give an explicit formulas for the expansions of non-commutive functions with one and two parameters in terms of these new functions. These results are similar to the conjectures existing in the commutative case.

On the Descent Algebra of Type $D$

Here we give a combinatorial interpretation of Solomon's rule for multiplication in the descent algebra of Weyl groups of type $D$, $ΣD_n$. From here we show that $ΣD_n$ is a homomorphic image of the descent algebra of the hyperoctahedral group, $ΣB_{n-2}$.

Produits dans la cohomologie des variétés arithmétiques : quelques calculs sur les séries thêta

For abelian varieties $A$, in the most interesting cohomology theories $H^* (A)$ is the exterior algebra of $H^1(A)$. In this paper we study a weak generalization of this in the case of arithmetic manifolds associated to orthogonal or unitary groups. In this latter case recall that arithmetic manifolds associated to standard unitary groups $U(p,q)$ ($p\geq q$) over a totally real numberfield have vanishing cohomology in degree $i=1, ..., q-1$ and that, following earlier works of Kazhdan and Shimura, Borel and Wallach constructed in \cite{BorelWallach} non zero degree $q$ cohomology classes. These cohomology classes arise as theta series. After generalizing the construction of these theta series. We prove that arbitrary (up to the obvious obstructions) cup-products of these theta series and their complex conjugates virtually non vanish, i.e. ``up to Hecke translate'', in the cohomology ring.

Représentations cohomologiques isolées, applications cohomologiques

We give a new proof of a Theorem of Vogan which classify the cohomological representations of a real semisimple Lie group $G$ which are isolated in the unitary dual of $G$. We investigate the same question in the automorphic dual, and obtain partial results. We derive applications of all this results (or conjectures) to the study of the cohomology of arithmetic locally symmetric spaces.

Propriétés de Lefschetz automorphes pour les groupes unitaires et orthogonaux

Let $G$ be a connected semisimple group over ${\Bbb Q}$. Given a maximal compact subgroup and a convenient arithmetic subgroup $Γ\subset G({\Bbb Q})$, one constructs an arithmetic manifold $S=S(Γ)=Γ\backslash X$. If $H\subset G$ is a connected, $θ$-stable, semisimple subgroup, for each $g\in G({\Bbb Q})$ one can construct an immersion between arithmetic manifolds $j_g \colon S(H,g)\to S$ induced by the map $H({\Bbb A})\to G({\Bbb A}), h\mapsto gh$. Let us assume that $G$ is anisotropic, which implies that $S$ and $S(H,g)$ are compact. Then, for each positive integer $k$, the map $j_g$ induces a restriction map $$R_g \colon H^{k}(S, {\Bbb C})\to H^{k}(S(H,g), {\Bbb C}).$$ In this paper we focus on symmetric spaces associated to the unitary and orthogonal groups, namely $O(p,q)$ and $U(p,q)$, and give explicit criterions for the injectivity of the product of the maps $R_g$ (for $g$ running through $G({\Bbb Q})$) when restricted to the strongly primitive (in the sense of Vogan and Zuckerman) part of the cohomology. We also give explicit criterions for the injectivity of the map $$H^{k}(S(H), {\Bbb C}) \to H^{k+{\rm dim} S - {\rm dim} S(H)} (S, {\Bbb C})$$ dual to the restriction map $R_e$. The results we obtain fit into a larger conjectural picture that we describe and which bare a strong analogy with the classical Lefschetz Theorems. This may sound quite surprising that such an analogy still exists in the case of the real arithmetic manifolds. We finally derive some applications concerning the non vanishing of some cohomology classes in arithmetic manifolds.

Diagonal Temperley-Lieb Invariants and Harmonics

In the context of the ring Q[x,y], of polynomials in 2n variables x=x1,...,x_n and y=y1,...,yn, we introduce the notion of diagonally quasi-symmetric polynomials. These, also called "diagonal Temperley-Lieb invariants", make possible the further introduction of the space of "diagonal Temperley-Lieb harmonics" and "diagonal Temperley-Lieb coinvariant space". We present new results and conjectures concerning these spaces, as well as the space obtained as the quotient of the ring of diagonal Temperley-Lieb invariants by the ideal generated by constant term free diagonally symmetric invariants. We also describe how the space of diagonal Temperley-Lieb invariants affords a natural graded Hopf algebra structure, for n going to infinity. We finally show how this last space and its graded dual Hopf algebra are related to the well known Hopf algebras of symmetric functions, quasi-symmetric functions and noncommutative symmetric functions.

Spectre automorphe des variétés hyperboliques et applications topologiques

This book is made of two parts. The first is concerned with the differential form spectrum of congruence hyperbolic manifolds. We prove Selberg type theorems on the first eigenvalue of the laplacian on differential forms. The method of proof is representation theoritic, we hope the different chapters may as well serve as an introduction to the modern theory of automorphic forms and its application to spectral questions. The second part of the book is of a more differential geometric flavor, a new kind of lifting of cohomology classes is proved.

Tentative d'épuisement de la cohomologie d'une variété de Shimura par restriction à ses sous-variétés

Let $G$ be a connected semisimple group over ${\Bbb Q}$. Given a maximal compact subgroup $K\subset G({\Bbb R})$ such that $X=G({\Bbb R})/K$ is a Hermitian symmetric domain, and a convenient arithmetic subgroup $Γ\subset G({\Bbb Q})$, one constructs a (connected) Shimura variety $S=S(Γ)=Γ\backslash X$. If $H\subset G$ is a connected semisimple subgroup such that $H({\Bbb R})\cap K$ is maximal compact, then $Y=H({\Bbb R})/K$ is a Hermitian symmetric subdomain of $X$. For each $g\in G({\Bbb Q})$ one can construct a connected Shimura variety $S(H,g)=(H({\Bbb Q})\cap g^{-1}Γg)\backslash Y$ and a natural holomorphic map $j_g \colon S(H,g)\to S$ induced by the map $H({\Bbb A})\to G({\Bbb A}), h\mapsto gh$. Let us assume that $G$ is anisotropic, which implies that $S$ and $S(H,g)$ are compact. Then, for each positive integer $k$, the map $j_g$ induces a restriction map $$R_g \colon H^{k}(S, {\Bbb C})\to H^{k}(S(H,g), {\Bbb C}).$$ In this paper we focus on classical Hermitian domains and give explicit criterions for the injectivity of the product of the maps $R_g$ (for $g$ running through $G({\Bbb Q})$) when restricted to the strongly primitive (in the sense of Vogan and Zuckerman) part of the cohomology. In the holomorphic case we recover previous results of Clozel and Venkataramana. We also derive applications of our results to the proofs of new cases of the Hodge conjecture and of new results on the vanishing of the cohomology of some particular Shimura variety.

Ideals of Quasi-Symmetric Functions and Super-Covariant Polynomials for S_n

The aim of this work is to study the quotient ring R_n of the ring Q[x_1,...,x_n] over the ideal J_n generated by non-constant homogeneous quasi-symmetric functions. We prove here that the dimension of R_n is given by C_n, the n-th Catalan number. This is also the dimension of the space SH_n of super-covariant polynomials, that is defined as the orthogonal complement of J_n with respect to a given scalar product. We construct a basis for R_n whose elements are naturally indexed by Dyck paths. This allows us to understand the Hilbert series of SH_n in terms of number of Dyck paths with a given number of factors.

Vanishing ideals of Lattice Diagram determinants

A lattice diagram is a finite set $L=\{(p_1,q_1),... ,(p_n,q_n)\}$ of lattice cells in the positive quadrant. The corresponding lattice diagram determinant is $Δ_L(\X;\Y)=\det \| x_i^{p_j}y_i^{q_j} \|$. The space $M_L$ is the space spanned by all partial derivatives of $Δ_L(\X;\Y)$. We denote by $M_L^0$ the $Y$-free component of $M_L$. For $μ$ a partition of $n+1$, we denote by $μ/ij$ the diagram obtained by removing the cell $(i,j)$ from the Ferrers diagram of $μ$. Using homogeneous partially symmetric polynomials, we give here a dual description of the vanishing ideal of the space $M_μ^0$ and we give the first known description of the vanishing ideal of $M_{μ/ij}^0$.

Lattice Diagram Polynomials and Extended Pieri Rules

The lattice cell in the ${i+1}^{st}$ row and ${j+1}^{st}$ column of the positive quadrant of the plane is denoted $(i,j)$. If $μ$ is a partition of $n+1$, we denote by $μ/ij$ the diagram obtained by removing the cell $(i,j)$ from the (French) Ferrers diagram of $μ$. We set $Δ_{μ/ij}=\det \| x_i^{p_j}y_i^{q_j} \|_{i,j=1}^n$, where $(p_1,q_1),... ,(p_n,q_n)$ are the cells of $μ/ij$, and let ${\bf M}_{μ/ij}$ be the linear span of the partial derivatives of $Δ_{μ/ij}$. The bihomogeneity of $Δ_{μ/ij}$ and its alternating nature under the diagonal action of $S_n$ gives ${\bf M}_{μ/ij}$ the structure of a bigraded $S_n$-module. We conjecture that ${\bf M}_{μ/ij}$ is always a direct sum of $k$ left regular representations of $S_n$, where $k$ is the number of cells that are weakly north and east of $(i,j)$ in $μ$. We also make a number of conjectures describing the precise nature of the bivariate Frobenius characteristic of ${\bf M}_{μ/ij}$ in terms of the theory of Macdonald polynomials. On the validity of these conjectures, we derive a number of surprising identities. In particular, we obtain a representation theoretical interpretation of the coefficients appearing in some Macdonald Pieri Rules.
