structural and optical properties of InxGa1-xN/GaN epilayers grown on a miscut sapphire substrate

We report on structural and optical properties of InGaN/GaN thin films, with a 0.46o misalignment between the surface and the (0001) plane, which were grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) on 0.34o miscut sapphire substrates. X-ray diffraction and X-ray reflectivity were used to precisely measure the degree of miscut. Reciprocal space mapping was employed to determine the lattice parameters and strain state of the InGaN layers. Rutherford backscattering spectrometry with channeling was employed to measure their composition and crystalline quality with depth resolution. No strain anisotropy was observed. Polarization-dependent photoluminescence spectroscopy was carried out to examine the effect of the miscut on the bandedge emission of the epilayer.

Argon assisted chemical vapor deposition of CrO$_2$: an efficient process leading to high quality epitaxial films

A comparative study of the structural, microstructural and magnetic properties of CrO$_2$ thin films grown onto (110) and (100) TiO$_2$ rutile single crystal substrates by chemical vapor deposition (CVD), using CrO$_3$ as chromium precursor and either oxygen or argon as carrier gas is presented. Our results show that growth under argon carrier gas leads to high quality CrO$_2$ epilayers with structural and magnetic properties similar to those obtained using the more standard oxygen carrier gas. Furthermore, we interpret the larger magnetic coercivity observed for the (110) oriented films in terms of their microstructure, in particular of the highest strain and edge roughness of the building structures of the CrO$_2$ epilayers, which are settled by the substrate crystallographic orientation.

Survey of Gravity in Non-Commutative Geometry

We present a survey of the application of Cones' Non-Commutative Geometry to gravitation. Bases of the theory and Euclidian gravity models are reviewed. Then we discuss the problem of a Lorentzian generalization of the theory and review existing attempts of solution.
