Long-time asymptotic series for the Painleve II equation: Riemann-Hilbert approach

We elaborate a systematic way to obtain higher order contributions in the nonlinear steepest descent method for Riemann-Hilbert problem associated with homogeneous Painleve II equation. The problem is reformulated as a matrix factorization problem on two circles and can be solved perturbatively reducing it to finite systems of algebraic linear equations. The method is applied to find explicitly long-time asymptotic behaviour for tau function of Painleve II equation.

On Landauer--Büttiker formalism from a quantum quench

We study transport in the free fermionic one-dimensional systems subjected to arbitrary local potentials. The bias needed for the transport is modeled by the initial highly non-equilibrium distribution where only half of the system is populated. Additionally to that, the local potential is also suddenly changed when the transport starts. For such a quench protocol we compute the Full Counting Statistics (FCS) of the number of particles in the initially empty part. In the thermodynamic limit, the FCS can be expressed via the Fredholm determinant with the kernel depending on the scattering data and Jost solutions of the pre-quench and the post-quench potentials. We discuss the large-time asymptotic behavior of the obtained determinant and observe that if two or more bound states are present in the spectrum of the post-quench potential the information about the initial state manifests itself in the persistent oscillations of the FCS. On the contrary, when there are no bound states the asymptotic behavior of the FCS is determined solely by the scattering data of the post-quench potential, which for the current (the first moment) is given by the Landauer--Büttiker formalism. The information about the initial state can be observed only in the transient dynamics.

Effective free-fermionic form factors and the XY spin chain

We introduce effective form factors for one-dimensional lattice fermions with arbitrary phase shifts. We study tau functions defined as series of these form factors. On the one hand we perform the exact summation and present tau functions as Fredholm determinants in the thermodynamic limit. On the other hand simple expressions of form factors allow us to present the corresponding series as integrals of elementary functions. Using this approach we re-derive the asymptotics of static correlation functions of the XY quantum chain at finite temperature.

Higher rank isomonodromic deformations and W-algebras

We construct the general solution of a class of Fuchsian systems of rank $N$ as well as the associated isomonodromic tau functions in terms of semi-degenerate conformal blocks of $W_N$-algebra with central charge $c=N-1$. The simplest example is given by the tau function of the Fuji-Suzuki-Tsuda system, expressed as a Fourier transform of the 4-point conformal block with respect to intermediate weight. Along the way, we generalize the result of Bowcock and Watts on the minimal set of matrix elements of vertex operators of the $W_N$-algebra for generic central charge and prove several properties of semi-degenerate vertex operators and conformal blocks for $c=N-1$.

Isomonodromic tau-functions from Liouville conformal blocks

The goal of this note is to show that the Riemann-Hilbert problem to find multivalued analytic functions with $SL(2,\mathbb{C})$-valued monodromy on Riemann surfaces of genus zero with $n$ punctures can be solved by taking suitable linear combinations of the conformal blocks of Liouville theory at $c=1$. This implies a similar representation for the isomonodromic tau-function. In the case $n=4$ we thereby get a proof of the relation between tau-functions and conformal blocks discovered in \cite{GIL}. We briefly discuss a possible application of our results to the study of relations between certain $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric gauge theories and conformal field theory.

Painlevé VI connection problem and monodromy of c=1 conformal blocks

Generic c=1 four-point conformal blocks on the Riemann sphere can be seen as the coefficients of Fourier expansion of the tau function of Painlevé VI equation with respect to one of its integration constants. Based on this relation, we show that c=1 fusion matrix essentially coincides with the connection coefficient relating tau function asymptotics at different critical points. Explicit formulas for both quantities are obtained by solving certain functional relations which follow from the tau function expansions. The final result does not involve integration and is given by a ratio of two products of Barnes G-functions with arguments expressed in terms of conformal dimensions/monodromy data. It turns out to be closely related to the volume of hyperbolic tetrahedron.

How instanton combinatorics solves Painlevé VI, V and III's

We elaborate on a recently conjectured relation of Painlevé transcendents and 2D CFT. General solutions of Painlevé VI, V and III are expressed in terms of $c=1$ conformal blocks and their irregular limits, AGT-related to instanton partition functions in $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric gauge theories with $N_f=0,1,2,3,4$. Resulting combinatorial series representations of Painlevé functions provide an efficient tool for their numerical computation at finite values of the argument. The series involve sums over bipartitions which in the simplest cases coincide with Gessel expansions of certain Toeplitz determinants. Considered applications include Fredholm determinants of classical integrable kernels, scaled gap probability in the bulk of the GUE, and all-order conformal perturbation theory expansions of correlation functions in the sine-Gordon field theory at the free-fermion point.

Conformal field theory of Painlevé VI

Generic Painlevé VI tau function τ(t) can be interpreted as four-point correlator of primary fields of arbitrary dimensions in 2D CFT with c=1. Using AGT combinatorial representation of conformal blocks and determining the corresponding structure constants, we obtain full and completely explicit expansion of τ(t) near the singular points. After a check of this expansion, we discuss examples of conformal blocks arising from Riccati, Picard, Chazy and algebraic solutions of Painlevé VI.

Casimir elements from the Brauer-Schur-Weyl duality

We consider Casimir elements for the orthogonal and symplectic Lie algebras constructed with the use of the Brauer algebra. We calculate the images of these elements under the Harish-Chandra isomorphism and thus show that they (together with the Pfaffian-type element in the even orthogonal case) are algebraically independent generators of the centers of the corresponding universal enveloping algebras.

Form factors of twist fields in the lattice Dirac theory

We study U(1) twist fields in a two-dimensional lattice theory of massive Dirac fermions. Factorized formulas for finite-lattice form factors of these fields are derived using elliptic parametrization of the spectral curve of the model, elliptic determinant identities and theta functional interpolation. We also investigate the thermodynamic and the infinite-volume scaling limit, where the corresponding expressions reduce to form factors of the exponential fields of the sine-Gordon model at the free-fermion point.

Finite-lattice form factors in free-fermion models

We consider the general $\mathbb{Z}_2$-symmetric free-fermion model on the finite periodic lattice, which includes as special cases the Ising model on the square and triangular lattices and $\mathbb{Z}_n$-symmetric BBS $τ^{(2)}$-model with $n=2$. Translating Kaufman's fermionic approach to diagonalization of Ising-like transfer matrices into the language of Grassmann integrals, we determine the transfer matrix eigenvectors and observe that they coincide with the eigenvectors of a square lattice Ising transfer matrix. This allows to find exact finite-lattice form factors of spin operators for the statistical model and the associated finite-length quantum chains, of which the most general is equivalent to the XY chain in a transverse field.

Ising correlations and elliptic determinants

Correlation functions of the two-dimensional Ising model on the periodic lattice can be expressed in terms of form factors - matrix elements of the spin operator in the basis of common eigenstates of the transfer matrix and translation operator. Free-fermion structure of the model implies that any multiparticle form factor is given by the pfaffian of a matrix constructed from the two-particle ones. Crossed two-particle form factors can be obtained by inverting a block of the matrix of linear transformation induced on fermions by the spin conjugation. We show that the corresponding matrix is of elliptic Cauchy type and use this observation to solve the inversion problem explicitly. Non-crossed two-particle form factors are then obtained using theta functional interpolation formulas. This gives a new simple proof of the factorized formulas for periodic Ising form factors, conjectured by A. Bugrij and one of the authors.

Spin operator matrix elements in the quantum Ising chain: fermion approach

Using some modification of the standard fermion technique we derive factorized formula for spin operator matrix elements (form-factors) between general eigenstates of the Hamiltonian of quantum Ising chain in a transverse field of finite length. The derivation is based on the approach recently used to derive factorized formula for Z_N-spin operator matrix elements between ground eigenstates of the Hamiltonian of the Z_N-symmetric superintegrable chiral Potts quantum chain. The obtained factorized formulas for the matrix elements of Ising chain coincide with the corresponding expressions obtained by the Separation of Variables Method.

Spin operator matrix elements in the superintegrable chiral Potts quantum chain

We derive spin operator matrix elements between general eigenstates of the superintegrable Z_N-symmetric chiral Potts quantum chain of finite length. Our starting point is the extended Onsager algebra recently proposed by R.Baxter. For each pair of spaces (Onsager sectors) of the irreducible representations of the Onsager algebra, we calculate the spin matrix elements between the eigenstates of the Hamiltonian of the quantum chain in factorized form, up to an overall scalar factor. This factor is known for the ground state Onsager sectors. For the matrix elements between the ground states of these sectors we perform the thermodynamic limit and obtain the formula for the order parameters. For the Ising quantum chain in a transverse field (N=2 case) the factorized form for the matrix elements coincides with the corresponding expressions obtained recently by the Separation of Variables Method.

Form-factors in the Baxter-Bazhanov-Stroganov model II: Ising model on the finite lattice

We continue our investigation of the Baxter-Bazhanov-Stroganov or τ^{(2)}-model using the method of separation of variables [nlin/0603028,arXiv:0708.4342]. In this paper we derive for the first time the factorized formula for form-factors of the Ising model on a finite lattice conjectured previously by A.Bugrij and O.Lisovyy in [arXiv:0708.3625,arXiv:0708.3643]. We also find the matrix elements of the spin operator for the finite quantum Ising chain in a transverse field.

Form-factors in the Baxter-Bazhanov-Stroganov model I: Norms and matrix elements

We continue our investigation of the Z_N-Baxter-Bazhanov-Stroganov model using the method of separation of variables [nlin/0603028]. In this paper we calculate the norms and matrix elements of a local Z_N-spin operator between eigenvectors of the auxiliary problem. For the norm the multiple sums over the intermediate states are performed explicitly. In the case N=2 we solve the Baxter equation and obtain form-factors of the spin operator of the periodic Ising model on a finite lattice.

Baxter-Bazhanov-Stroganov model: Separation of Variables and Baxter Equation

The Baxter-Bazhanov-Stroganov model (also known as the τ^(2) model) has attracted much interest because it provides a tool for solving the integrable chiral Z_N-Potts model. It can be formulated as a face spin model or via cyclic L-operators. Using the latter formulation and the Sklyanin-Kharchev-Lebedev approach, we give the explicit derivation of the eigenvectors of the component B_n(λ) of the monodromy matrix for the fully inhomogeneous chain of finite length. For the periodic chain we obtain the Baxter T-Q-equations via separation of variables. The functional relations for the transfer matrices of the τ^(2) model guarantee non-trivial solutions to the Baxter equations. For the N=2 case, which is free fermion point of a generalized Ising model, the Baxter equations are solved explicitly.
