On Lorentz Variability of Magnetically Dominated Relativistic Outflows

We show that magnetized relativistic outflows can exhibit a relativistic effect in which Lorentz transformation maps spatially extended magnetic field structure into apparent temporal variability in the observer's frame. Using a force-free Beltrami configurations as representative equilibria of magnetically dominated outflows, we demonstrate that Lorentz mapping of stationary helical magnetic field produces quasi-periodic modulation of observable electromagnetic signatures, without invoking intrinsic plasma variability. The same mechanism naturally generates temporal evolution of the observed polarization properties, producing smooth, generally aperiodic polarization-angle swings in the observer's frame. This effect may be described as an aberration of force-free magnetic fields under Lorentz transformation. The characteristic frequency of the time variability is determined by the helical wave-number of the magnetic field, the viewing angle, and the bulk Lorentz factor of the jet outflow, and scales linearly with $Γ$. This establishes a purely kinematic relativistic origin of variability and introduces the concept of magnetic Lorentz seismology: the inference of magnetic field structure in relativistic outflows directly from observed temporal variability.

Spectral decoherence without depolarization in curvature radiation

Context: Fast radio bursts often exhibit strong linear polarization together with pronounced spectral structure. Yet in coherent curvature radiation, spectral decoherence and depolarization are not necessarily simultaneous. Aims: We investigate spectral and polarization coherence in curvature radiation from extended ultrarelativistic sources. Methods: Using the coherency matrix formalism together with an asymptotic phase expansion for a uniformly emitting extended source, we derive the spectral and polarization coherence properties of curvature radiation. Results: We show that spectral decoherence and depolarization are governed by distinct physical conditions and therefore develop on separate scales. Retardation phase variations suppress spectral coherence, whereas polarization remains largely preserved across the relativistic beaming cone, naturally producing a broad polarized but spectrally decoherent regime whose extent increases toward higher frequencies and larger Lorentz factors. Conclusions: Spectral decoherence without strong depolarization naturally arises in ultrarelativistic curvature radiation and may explain highly polarized fast radio bursts with strong spectral modulation or narrow band structure.

Flow Generation via Catastrophic Loss of Equilibrium in Weakly-Rotating Self-Gravitating Fluids: A Minimal Idealized Model

This paper explores the catastrophic energy transformations, in particular the ones leading to the generation of a flow in a weakly rotating self-gravitating fluid/gas found, for instance, in the vicinity of a massive compact object. Because of the similarity in the governing equations, the system dynamics is worked out exactly in parallel to the methods developed for investigating catastrophic relaxation in stellar plasmas [1-3]. In the latter a more ``complex" equilibrium state, on slow changes in the environment, can lose its equilibrium (catastrophe), and transform to a less complex state with a very different energy mix from the original. It is shown that a similar transformation in the weakly rotating self-gravitating fluid/gas will convert much of its gravitation energy into kinetic energy in the flow. Since flows are a perennial ingredient of high-energy astrophysical systems, the energy transformation processes revealed in present study, can advance our understanding of a variety of them. Some particularly relevant examples are: macro-scale flows / structures in galaxies, accretion discs, and the dynamics and stability of a rotating star / its atmosphere.

Catastrophic Formation of Macro-Scale Flow and Magnetic Fields in the Relativistic Gas of Binary Systems

It is shown that a simple quasi-equilibrium analysis of a multi-component plasma can be harnessed to explain catastrophic energy transformations in astrophysical objects. We limit ourselves to the particular class of binary systems for which the typical plasma consists of one classical ion component, and two relativistic electron components - the bulk degenerate electron gas with a small contamination of hot electrons. We derive, analytically, the conditions conducive to such a catastrophic change. The pathway to such sudden changes is created by the slow changes in the initial parameters so that the governing equilibrium state can no longer be sustained and the system must find a new equilibrium that could have vastly different energy mix - of thermal, flow-kinetic and magnetic energies. In one such scenario, macro-scale flow kinetic, and magnetic energies abound in the final state. For the given multi-component plasma, we show that the flow (strongly Super-Alfvénic) kinetic energy is mostly carried by the small hot electron component. Under specific conditions, it is possible to generate strong macro-scale magnetic (velocity) field when all of the flow (magnetic) field energy is converted to the magnetic (velocity) field energy at the catastrophe. The analysis is applied to explain various observed characteristics of white dwarf (WD) systems, in particular, of the magnetic and dense/degenerate type.

Jet formation model from accretion disks of electron-ion-photon gas

The problem of Astrophysical Jet formation from relativistic accretion disks through the establishment of relativistic disk-powerful jet equilibrium structure is studied applying the Beltrami-Bernoulli equilibrium approach of Shatashvili & Yoshida 2011; Arshilava et al. 2019. Accretion disk is weakly magnetized consisting of fully ionized relativistic electron-ion plasma and photon gas strongly coupled to electrons due to Thompson Scattering. %hence, making the behavior of photon gas similar to that of "a charged fluid". Analysis is based on the generalized Shakura-Sunyaev $α$-turbulent dissipation model for local viscosity (being the main source of accretion), in which the contributions from both the photon and ion gases are taken into account. Ignoring the self-gravitation in the disk we constructed the analytical self-similar solutions for the equilibrium relativistic disk-jet structure characteristic parameters in the field of gravitating central compact object for the force-free condition. It is shown, that the magnetic field energy in the Jet is several orders greater compared to that of accretion disk, while jet-outflow is locally Super-Alfvénic with local {\it Plasma-beta} $< 1$ near the jet-axis. The derived solutions can be used to analyze the astrophysical jets observed in binary systems during the star formation process linking the jet properties with the parameters of relativistic accretion disks of electron-ion-photon gas.

Macro-scale fast flow and magnetic field generation in 2-temperature relativistic electron-ion plasmas of astrophysical objects

We have shown the simultaneous generation of macro-scale fast flows and strong magnetic fields in the 2-temperature relativistic electron-ion plasmas of astrophysical objects due to Unified Reverse Dynamo/Dynamo mechanism. The resulting dynamical magnetic field amplification and/or flow acceleration is directly proportional to the initial turbulent kinetic/magnetic (magnetic) energy; the process is very sensitive to relativistically hot electron-ion fraction temperature and magneto-fluid coupling. It is shown, that for realistic physical parameters of White Dwarfs accreting hot astrophysical flow / Binary systems there always exists such a real solution of dispersion relation for which the formation of dispersive strong super-Alfvénic macro-scale flow/outflow with Alfvén Mach number $> 10^6$ and/or generation of super-strong magnetic fields is guaranteed.

Nonlinear Coupling of Electromagnetic and Electron Acoustic Waves in Multi-Species Degenerate Astrophysical Plasma

Nonlinear wave--coupling is studied in a multi-species degenerate astrophysical plasma consisting of two electron species (at different temperatures): a highly degenerate main component plus a smaller classical relativistic flow immersed in a static neutralizing ion background. It is shown that the high frequency electromagnetic (HF EM) waves, through their strong nonlinear interactions with the electron--acoustic waves (sustained by a multi-electron component (degenerate) plasma surrounding a compact astrophysical object) can scatter to lower frequencies so that the radiation observed faraway will be spectrally shifted downwards. It is also shown that, under definite conditions, the EM waves could settle into stationary Solitonic states. It is expected that the effects of such structures may persist as detectable signatures in forms of modulated micro-pulses in the radiation observed far away from the accreting compact object. Both these effects will advance our abilities to interpret the radiation coming out of the compact objects.

Theoretical model of hydrodynamic jet formation from accretion disks with turbulent viscosity

We develop the theoretical model for the analytic description of hydrodynamic jets from protostellar disks employing the Beltrami-Bernoulli flow configuration of disk-jet structure. For this purpose we extend the standard turbulent viscosity prescription and derive several classes of analytic solutions using the flow parametrization in self-similar variables. Derived solutions describe the disk-jet structure, where for the first time jet properties are analytically linked with the properties of the accretion disk flow. The ratio of the jet ejection and disk accretion velocities is controlled by the turbulence parameter, while the ejection velocity increases with the decrease of local sound velocity and the jet launching radius. Derived solutions can be used to analyze the astrophysical jets from protostellar accretion disks and link the properties of outflows with the local observational properties of accretion disk flows.

On the Relaxed States in the Mixture of Degenerate and Non-Degenerate Hot Plasmas of Astrophysical Objects

It is shown that a small contamination of a relativistically hot electron component can induce a new scale (for structure formation) to a system consisting of an ion-degenerate electron plasma. Mathematically expression of this additional scale length is the increase in the index of quasi-equilibrium Beltrami-Bernoulli states that have been invoked to model several astrophysical systems of interest. The two species of electrons, due to different origin of their relativistic effective masses, behave as two distinct components (each with its own conserved helicity) and add to the richness of the accessible quasi equilibrium states. Determined by the concrete parameters of the system, the new macro-scale lengths (much larger than the short intrinsic scale lengths (skin depths) and generally much shorter than the system size) open new pathways for energy transformations.

Mechanism for flow generation/acceleration in dense degenerate stellar atmospheres

The mechanism for flow generation in dense degenerate stellar atmospheres is suggested when the electron gas is degenerate and ions are assumed to be classical. It is shown, that there is a catastrophe in such system -- fast flows are generated due to magneto-fluid coupling near the surface. Distance over which acceleration appears is determined by the strength of gravity and degeneracy parameter. Application of this mechanism for White Dwarfs' atmospheres is examined and appropriate physical parameter range for flow generation/acceleration is found; possibility of the super-Alfvénic flow generation is shown; the simultaneous possibility of flow acceleration and magnetic field amplification for specific boundary conditions is explored; in some cases initial background flow can be accelerated 100 and more times leading to transient jet formation while the Magnetic field amplification is less strong.

Self-Guiding of Electromagnetic Beams in Degenerate Relativistic Electron-Positron Plasma

The possibility of self-trapped propagation of electromagnetic beams in the fully degenerate relativistic electron-positron plasma has been studied applying Fluid-Maxwell model; it is shown that dynamics of such beams can be described by the generalized Nonlinear Schrödinger equation with specific type of saturating nonlinearity. Existence of radially symmetric localized solitary structures is demonstrated. It is found that stable solitary structures exist for the arbitrary level of degeneracy.

Mechanisms for Multi-Scale Structures in Dense Degenerate Astrophysical Plasmas

Two distinct routes lead to the creation of multi--scale equilibrium structures in dense degenerate plasmas, often met in astrophysical conditions. By analyzing an e-p-i plasma consisting of degenerate electrons and positrons with a small contamination of mobile classical ions, we show the creation of a new macro scale $L_{\rm{macro}}$ (controlled by ion concentration). The temperature and degeneracy enhancement effective inertia of bulk e-p components also makes the effective skin depths larger (much larger) than the standard skin depth. The emergence of these intermediate and macro scales lends immense richness to the process of structure formation, and vastly increases the channels for energy transformations. The possible role played by this mechanism in explaining the existence of large-scale structures in astrophysical objects with degenerate plasmas, is examined.

Electromagnetic Solitons in Degenerate Relativistic Electron-Positron Plasma

The existence of soliton-like electromagnetic (EM) distributions in a fully degenerate electron-positron plasma is studied applying relativistic hydrodynamic and Maxwell equations. For circularly polarized wave it is found that the soliton solutions exist both in relativistic as well as nonrelativistic degenerate plasmas. Plasma density in the region of soliton pulse localization is reduced considerably. The possibility of plasma cavitation is also shown.

Beltrami-Bernoulli Equilibria in Plasmas with Degenerate Electrons

A new class of Double Beltrami-Bernoulli equilibria, sustained by electron degeneracy pressure, are investigated. It is shown that due to electron degeneracy, a nontrivial Beltrami-Bernoulli equilibrium state is possible even for a zero temperature plasma. These states are, conceptually, studied to show the existence of new energy transformation pathways converting, for instance, the degeneracy energy into fluid kinetic energy. Such states may be of relevance to compact astrophysical objects like white dwarfs, neutron stars etc.

Vortex Bubble Formation in Pair Plasmas

It is shown that delocalized vortex solitons in relativistic pair plasmas with small temperature asymmetries can be unstable for intermediate intensities of the background electromagnetic field. Instability leads to the generation of ever-expanding cavitating bubbles in which the electromagnetic fields are zero. The existence of such electromagnetic bubbles is demonstrated by qualitative arguments based on a hydrodynamic analogy, and by numerical solutions of the appropriate Nonlinear Schrödinger equation with a saturating nonlinearity.

Generalized Beltrami flow -- a model of thin-disk and narrow-jet system

In the vicinity of a massive object of various scales (ranging from young stars to galactic nuclei), mass flow creates a spectacular structure combining a thin disk and collimated jet. Despite a wide range of scaling parameters (such as Reynolds number, Lundquist number, ionization fractions, Lorentz factor, etc.), they exhibit a remarkable similarity that must be dictated by a universal principle. A generalized Beltrami condition has been formulated as a succinct representation of such a principle. The singularity at the center of the Keplerian rotation forces the flow to align with the "generalized vorticity" (including the effect of localized density and finite dissipation) which appears as an axle penetrating the disk, i.e. the jet is a Beltrami flow. Based on the Beltrami flow model, an analytical expression of a disk-jet system has been constructed by the method of similarity solution.

Beltrami structures in disk-jet system: alignment of flow and generalized vorticity

The combination of a thin disk and a narrowly-collimated jet is a typical structure that is observed in the vicinity of a massive object such as AGN, black hole or YSO. Despite a large variety of their scales and possible diversity of involved processes, a simple and universal principle dictates the geometric similarity of the structure; we show that the singularity at the origin ($r=0$) of the Keplerian rotation ($V_θ\propto r^{-1/2}$) is the determinant of the structure. The collimation of jet is the consequence of the alignment ---so-called Beltrami condition--- of the flow velocity and the "generalized vorticity" that appears as an axle penetrating the disk (the vorticity is generalized to combine with magnetic field as well as to subtract the friction force causing the accretion). Typical distributions of the density and flow velocity are delineated by a similarity solution of the simplified version of the model.

Asymmetry-Driven Structure Formation in Pair Plasmas

The nonlinear propagation of electromagnetic waves in pair plasmas, in which the electrostatic potential plays a very important but subdominant role of a "binding glue" is investigated. Several mechanisms for structure formation are investigated, in particular, the "asymmetry" in the initial temperatures of the constituent species. It is shown that the temperature asymmetry leads to a (localizing) nonlinearity that is new and qualitatively different from the ones originating in ambient mass or density difference. The temperature asymmetry driven focusing-defocusing nonlinearity supports stable localized wave structures in 1-3 dimensions, which, for certain parameters, may have flat-top shapes.
