Predicted defect induced vortex core switching in thin magnetic nanodisks

We investigate the influence of artificial defects (small holes) inserted into magnetic nanodisks on the vortex core dynamics. One and two holes (antidots) are considered. In general, the core falls into the hole but, in particular, we would like to remark an interesting phenomenon not yet observed, which is the vortex core switching induced by the vortex-hole interactions. It occurs for the case with only one hole and for very special conditions involving the hole size and position as well as the disk size. Any small deformation in the disk geometry such as the presence of a second antidot changes completely the vortex dynamics and the vortex core eventually falls into one of the defects. After trapped, the vortex center still oscillates with a very high frequency and small amplitude around the defect center.

How hole defects modify vortex dynamics in ferromagnetic nanodisks

Defects introduced in ferromagnetic nanodisks may deeply affect the structure and dynamics of stable vortex-like magnetization. Here, analytical techniques are used for studying, among other dynamical aspects, how a small cylindrical cavity modify the oscillatory modes of the vortex. For instance, we have realized that if the vortex is nucleated out from the hole its gyrotropic frequencies are shifted below. Modifications become even more pronounced when the vortex core is partially or completely captured by the hole. In these cases, the gyrovector can be partially or completely suppressed, so that the associated frequencies increase considerably, say, from some times to several powers. Possible relevance of our results for understanding other aspects of vortex dynamics in the presence of cavities and/or structural defects are also discussed.

Heisenberg model on a space with negative curvature: topological spin textures on the pseudosphere

Heisenberg-like spins lying on the pseudosphere (a 2-dimensional infinite space with constant negative curvature) cannot give rise to stable soliton solutions. Only fractional solutions can be stabilized on this surface provided that at least a hole is incorporated. We also address the issue of `in-plane' vortices, in the XY regime. Interestingly, the energy of a single vortex no longer blows up as the excitation spreads to infinity. This yields a non-confining potential between a vortex and a antivortex at large distances so that the pair may dissociate at arbitrarily low temperature.

Low-Temperature Quasi-Equilibrium States in the Hydrogen Atom

The dynamics of the approach to equilibrium of the hydrogen atom is investigated numerically through a Monte Carlo procedure. We show that, before approaching ionization, the hydrogen atom may live in a quasi-equilibrium state, characterized by aging, whose duration increases exponentially as the temperatures decreases. By analyzing the quasi-equilibrium state, we compute averages of physical quantities for the hydrogen atom. We have introduced an analytic approach that fits satisfactorily the numerical estimates for low temperatures. Although the present analysis is expected to hold for energies typically up to 6% of the ionization energy, it works well for temperatures as high as 10^{4} K.

A Method Based on a Nonlinear Generalized Heisenberg Algebra to Study the Molecular Vibrational Spectrum

We propose a method, based on a Generalized Heisenberg Algebra (GHA), to reproduce the anharmonic spectrum of diatomic molecules. The theoretical spectrum generated by GHA allows us to fit the experimental data and to obtain the dissociation energy for the carbon monoxide molecule. Our outcomes are more accurate than the standard models used to study molecular vibrations, namely the Morse and the $q$-oscillator models and comparable to the perturbed Morse model proposed by Huffaker \cite{hf}, for the first experimental levels. The dissociation energy obtained here is more accurate than all previous models.

Generalized Quantum Field Theory as an Alternative Approach To The Problem of Composite Particles Reaction

A generalization of the Heisenberg algebra has been recently constructed. This generalized algebra has a characteristic function which depends on one of its generators. When this function is linear, $qJ_0+s$, it is possible to construct a Generalized Quantum Field Theory (GQFT) that creates at a space-time a composite particle. In the present work we show that a generalized QFT can also be constructed consistently, even with a nonlinear characteristic function and leads to better results as long as we have more parameters to (possibly) fit the spectrum of a real composite particle.
