ALMA view on the nature of the compact VLA continuum sources in the massive young stellar object G25.65+1.05

This paper presents high-resolution ALMA observations of the massive young stellar object G25.65+1.05, which is known to host water maser super flares. To investigate the nature of compact continuum sources that have been previously identified in this region, we analyzed 1.3 mm dust continuum and molecular line emission. The central millimeter peak MM1 coincides with the centimeter source VLA 2, has a complex molecular spectrum, and is identified as a hot molecular core. Molecular emission of SiO and CH3CN in the vicinity of MM1 reveals kinematics consistent with wide-angle outflow structures and a possible rotating disk in the source. VLA sources 1A, 1B, and 3 are lacking compact millimeter counterparts and trace shocked regions where the outflow interacts with the surrounding material. In particular, VLA 1A, the site of H2O maser super flares, is interpreted as a shock interface that exhibits developed turbulent movements seen in the SiO molecular line. The observed turbulence creates conditions required for H2O maser action, directly linking the nature of VLA 1A to the origin of the H2O maser super flares.

Interstellar Medium in Extremely High Star-Formation Regions: A Prospect of Observations on the Millimetron Space Observatory

High star-formation rate and active galactic nucleus' emission can significantly transform the interstellar medium. In ultra-luminous infrared galaxies, in which the star-formation rate reaches thousands of solar masses per year, the gas and dust are considerably affected by the ionizing radiation, cosmic rays and shock waves, that can be about a factor of 100--1000 larger than typical values in quiet star-forming galaxies. In these conditions, the emissivity of the gas and dust changes: in dense gas, high ionic and molecular transitions become excited, while dust grains are heated to high temperatures. In this paper, we analyze the possibilities for studying the interstellar medium in extreme conditions of ultra-luminous infrared galaxies at redshifts of $\sim 0-3$, utilizing the atomic and molecular lines, and dust continuum in far infrared range of $100-500μ$m. We discuss the prospect of observations using the instruments of the Millimetron Space Observatory.

Radioastron probing the fine structure of the flaring H2O maser in star-forming region G25.65+1.05

The paper describes a Space-VLBI observation of the 22 GHz H2O masers in the massive star-forming region G25.65+1.05, using the 10-m space antenna of Radioastron together with the ground-based VLBA array. Two observing epochs at the pre-flare and post-flare state of the maser source are presented. Leveraging the exceptional angular resolution provided by space-ground baselines along with the broad UV coverage from VLBA baselines, we gained a detailed perspective on the area associated with the maser flare events.

Detection statistics of the RadioAstron AGN survey

The largest Key Science Program of the RadioAstron space VLBI mission is a survey of active galactic nuclei (AGN). The main goal of the survey is to measure and study the brightness of AGN cores in order to better understand the physics of their emission while taking interstellar scattering into consideration. In this paper we present detection statistics for observations on ground-space baselines of a complete sample of radio-strong AGN at the wavelengths of 18, 6, and 1.3 cm. Two-thirds of them are indeed detected by RadioAstron and are found to contain extremely compact, tens to hundreds of $μ$as structures within their cores.

RadioAstron probes the ultra-fine spatial structure in the H$_2$O maser emission in the star forming region W49N

H$_2$O maser emission associated with the massive star formation region W49N were observed with the Space-VLBI mission RadioAstron. The procedure for processing of the maser spectral line data obtained in the RadioAstron observations is described. Ultra-fine spatial structures in the maser emission were detected on space-ground baselines of up to 9.6 Earth diameters. The correlated flux densities of these features range from 0.1% to 0.6% of the total flux density. These low values of correlated flux density are probably due to turbulence either in the maser itself or in the interstellar medium.

JVLA overview of the bursting H$_2$O maser source G25.65+1.05

The source G25.65+1.05 (RAFGL7009S, IRAS 18316-0602) is the least studied of the three regions of massive star formation known to show exceptionally powerful H$_2$O maser bursts. We report spectral line observations of the H$_2$O maser at 22 GHz, the methanol maser transitions at 6.7, 12.2 and 44 GHz, and the continuum in these same frequency bands with The Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (JVLA) at the post-burst epoch of 2017. For the first time, maps of 22 GHz H$_2$O and 44 GHz CH$_3$OH maser spots are obtained and the absolute position of the 22 GHz H$_2$O bursting feature is determined with milliarcsecond precision. We detected four continuum components, three of which are closely spaced in a linear orientation, suggesting a physical link between them.

RadioAstron space-VLBI project: studies of masers in star forming regions of our Galaxy and megamasers in external galaxies

Observations of the masers in the course of RadioAstron mission yielded detections of fringes for a number of sources in both water and hydroxyl maser transitions. Several sources display numerous ultra-compact details. This proves that implementation of the space VLBI technique for maser studies is possible technically and is not always prevented by the interstellar scattering, maser beaming and other effects related to formation, transfer, and detection of the cosmic maser emission. For the first time, cosmic water maser emission was detected with projected baselines exceeding Earth Diameter. It was detected in a number of star-forming regions in the Galaxy and megamaser galaxies NGC 4258 and NGC 3079. RadioAstron observations provided the absolute record of the angular resolution in astronomy. Fringes from the NGC 4258 megamaser were detected on baseline exceeding 25 Earth Diameters. This means that the angular resolution sufficient to measure the parallax of the water maser source in the nearby galaxy LMC was directly achieved in the cosmic maser observations. Very compact features with angular sizes about 20 microarcsec have been detected in star-forming regions of our Galaxy. Corresponding linear sizes are about 5-10 million kilometers. So, the major step from milli- to micro-arcsecond resolution in maser studies is done in the RadioAstron mission. The existence of the features with extremely small angular sizes is established. Further implementations of the space-VLBI maser instrument for studies of the nature of cosmic objects, studies of the interaction of extremely high radiation field with molecular material and studies of the matter on the line of sight are planned.

Polarization of cosmic microwave background scattered by moving flat protoobjects

The work is devoted to the investigations of possible observational manifestations of protoobjects related to "dark ages" epoch (10 < z < 1000), before formation of self-luminous galaxies and stars. These objects can distort the cosmic microwave background. Formation of these objects is described in the "pancake theory" and in the model of "hierarchic clustering". According to these theories we may consider these protoobjects as flat layers. We consider both Thomson (with Rayleigh phase matrix) and resonance (for complete frequency redistribution) scattering of cosmic microwave background radiation by moving flat layer. The appearing anisotropy and polarization of cosmic microwave radiation are calculated for a wide range of a layer optical thicknesses (from optically thin layer to optically thick one). Analytical solutions are also obtained for the case of an optically thin layer and are compared with the numerical ones.
