Potts spin glasses with 3, 4 and 5 states near $T=T_c$: expanding around the replica symmetric solution

Expansion for the free energy functionals of the Potts spin glass models with 3, 4 and 5 states up to the fourth order in $δq_{αβ}$ around the replica symmetric solution (RS) is investigated using a special quadrupole-like representation. The temperature dependence of the 1RSB order parameters is obtained in the vicinity of the point $T=T_c$ where the RS solution becomes unstable. The crossover from continuous to jumpwise behavior with increasing of number of states is derived analytically. The comparison is made of the free energy expansion for the Potts spin glass with that for other models.

Breakdown of The Excess Entropy Scaling for the Systems with Thermodynamic Anomalies

This articles presents a simulation study of the applicability of the Rosenfeld entropy scaling to the systems which can not be approximated by effective hard spheres. Three systems are studied: Herzian spheres, Gauss Core Model and soft repulsive shoulder potential. These systems demonstrate the diffusion anomalies at low temperatures: the diffusion increases with increasing density or pressure. It is shown that for the first two systems which belong to the class of bounded potentials the Rosenfeld scaling formula is valid only in the infinite temperature limit where there are no anomalies. For the soft repulsive shoulder the scaling formula is valid already at sufficiently low temperatures, however, out of the anomaly range.

Waterlike thermodynamic anomalies in a repulsive-step potential system

We report a computer-simulation study of the equilibrium phase diagram of a three-dimensional system of particles with a repulsive step potential. The phase diagram is obtained using free-energy calculations. At low temperatures, we observe a number of distinct crystal phases. We show that at certain values of the potential parameters the system exhibits the water-like thermodynamic anomalies: density anomaly and diffusion anomaly. The anomalies disappear with increasing the repulsive step width: their locations move to the region inside the crystalline phase.

Quasi-binary amorphous phase in a 3D system of particles with repulsive-shoulder interactions

We report a computer-simulation study of the equilibrium phase diagram of a three-dimensional system of particles with a repulsive step potential. Using free-energy calculations, we have determined the equilibrium phase diagram of this system. At low temperatures, we observe a number of distinct crystal phases. However, under certain conditions the system undergoes a glass transition in a regime where the liquid appears thermodynamically stable. We argue that the appearance of this amorphous low-temperature phase can be understood by viewing this one-component system as a pseudo-binary mixture.

Complex Phase Behavior of Repulsive Step Potential Systems in Three Dimensions

The comprehensive computer simulation study of the phase diagram of the repulsive step potential system in three dimensions is represented. We show that the system with a simple purely repulsive isotropic potential demonstrates a number of unusual features. The maxima and minima on the melting curve are found for some regions of potential parameters. It is shown that the phase diagram in $ρ-T$ plane includes two isostructural crystalline parts separated by the disordered phase which is amorphous at low enough temperatures. Phase diagram in the (P-T) plane shows that the transition to the amorphous state occurs approximately along the extrapolated spinodals. Structural FCC-BCC phase transition is found at high densities.

"Spherical" 3-State Potts Spin Glass: Exact Solution

A continuous 3-state Potts model with an analog of spherical constraints is proposed and is shown to have an exact solution in the case of infinite-ranged interactions. "Spherical" 3-state Potts spin glass model is solved using the known properties of a large random matrix. For this model the results are identical to those obtained by the replica approach for replica symmetric solution.

Low-temperature Phase Transition in 3-state Potts Glass

The low-temperature instability of one-step replica symmetry breaking (1RSB) phase in 3-state Potts spin glass is obtained explicitly. The temperature of the instability is higher than the temperature where the 1RSB entropy becomes negative. The conjecture of the possibility of the low-temperature full RSB is supported.

Reflection symmetry in mean-field replica-symmetric spin glasses

The role of reflection symmetry breaking for the character of the appearance of replica symmetric spin glass state is investigated. We establish the following symmetry rule for classical systems with one order parameter in the replica symmetric mean field approximation. If in the pure system the transition to the ordered phase is of the second order, then in the corresponding random system the glass regime appears as a result of a phase transition; if the transition in the pure system is of the first order, then glass and ordered regimes grow continuously in the random system on cooling.

Replica Symmetry Breaking in an Axial Model of Quadropolar Glass

We perform the replica symmetry breaking (RSB) in the vicinity of the point of instability of the replica symmetric solution in the model of axial quadrupolar glass. It is shown that the solution with the first stage RSB is stable against the second stage RSB. Although there is no reflection symmetry the 1RSB solution bifurcates continuously from the RS one. These facts mean that our model can not be associated with one of two classes usually considered in spin glass theory.
