A local limit theorem for random walks in random scenery and on randomly oriented lattices

Random walks in random scenery are processes defined by $Z_n:=\sum_{k=1}^nξ_{X_1+...+X_k}$, where $(X_k,k\ge 1)$ and $(ξ_y,y\in\mathbb Z)$ are two independent sequences of i.i.d. random variables. We assume here that their distributions belong to the normal domain of attraction of stable laws with index $α\in (0,2]$ and $β\in (0,2]$ respectively. These processes were first studied by H. Kesten and F. Spitzer, who proved the convergence in distribution when $α\neq 1$ and as $n\to \infty$, of $n^{-δ}Z_n$, for some suitable $δ>0$ depending on $α$ and $β$. Here we are interested in the convergence, as $n\to \infty$, of $n^δ{\mathbb P}(Z_n=\lfloor n^δ x\rfloor)$, when $x\in \RR$ is fixed. We also consider the case of random walks on randomly oriented lattices for which we obtain similar results.

A functional approach for random walks in random sceneries

A functional approach for the study of the random walks in random sceneries (RWRS) is proposed. Under fairly general assumptions on the random walk and on the random scenery, functional limit theorems are proved. The method allows to study separately the convergence of the walk and of the scenery: on the one hand, a general criterion for the convergence of the local time of the walk is provided, on the other hand, the convergence of the random measures associated with the scenery is studied. This functional approach is robust enough to recover many of the known results on RWRS as well as new ones, including the case of many walkers evolving in the same scenery.

Limit theorem for random walk in weakly dependent random scenery

Let $S=(S_k)_{k\geq 0}$ be a random walk on $\mathbb{Z}$ and $ξ=(ξ_{i})_{i\in\mathbb{Z}}$ a stationary random sequence of centered random variables, independent of $S$. We consider a random walk in random scenery that is the sequence of random variables $(Σ_n)_{n\geq 0}$ where $$Σ_n=\sum_{k=0}^n ξ_{S_k}, n\in\mathbb{N}.$$ Under a weak dependence assumption on the scenery $ξ$ we prove a functional limit theorem generalizing Kesten and Spitzer's theorem (1979).

Discrete approximation of a stable self-similar stationary increments process

The aim of this paper is to present a result of discrete approximation of some class of stable self-similar stationary increments processes. The properties of such processes were intensively investigated, but little is known on the context in which such processes can arise. To our knowledge, discretisation and convergence theorems are available only in the case of stable Lévy motions and fractional Brownian motions. This paper yields new results in this direction. Our main result is the convergence of the random rewards schema, which was firstly introduced by Cohen and Samorodnitsky, and that we consider in a more general setting. Strong relationships with Kesten and Spitzer's random walk in random sceneries are evidenced. Finally, we study some path properties of the limit process.

Central limit theorem for sampled sums of dependent random variables

We prove a central limit theorem for linear triangular arrays under weak dependence conditions. Our result is then applied to the study of dependent random variables sampled by a $\bbZ$-valued transient random walk. This extends the results obtained by Guillotin-Plantard & Schneider (2003). An application to parametric estimation by random sampling is also provided.

Statistical properties of Pauli matrices going through noisy channels

We study the statistical properties of the triplet $(σ_x,σ_y,σ_z)$ of Pauli matrices going through a sequence of noisy channels, modeled by the repetition of a general, trace-preserving, completely positive map. We show a non-commutative central limit theorem for the distribution of this triplet, which shows up a 3-dimensional Brownian motion in the limit with a non-trivial covariance matrix. We also prove a large deviation principle associated to this convergence, with an explicit rate function depending on the stationary state of the noisy channel.

A functional limit theorem for a 2D-random walk with dependent marginals

We prove a non-standard functional limit theorem for a two dimensional simple random walk on some randomly oriented lattices. This random walk, already known to be transient, has different horizontal and vertical fluctuations leading to different normalizations in the functional limit theorem, with a non-Gaussian horizontal behavior. We also prove that the horizontal and vertical components are not asymptotically independent.

The Curie-Weiss model with dynamical external field

We study a Curie-Weiss model with a random external field generated by a dynamical system. Probabilistic limit theorems (weak law of large numbers, central limit theorems) are proven for the corresponding magnetization.

Transient random walks on 2d-oriented lattices

We study the asymptotic behavior of the simple random walk on oriented versions of $\mathbb{Z}^2$. The considered lattices are not directed on the vertical axis but unidirectional on the horizontal one, with random orientations whose distributions are generated by a dynamical system. We find a sufficient condition on the smoothness of the generation for the transience of the simple random walk on almost every such oriented lattices, and as an illustration we provide a wide class of examples of inhomogeneous or correlated distributions of the orientations. For ergodic dynamical systems, we also prove a strong law of large numbers and, in the particular case of i.i.d. orientations, we solve an open problem and prove a functional limit theorem in a corresponding space D of cadlag functions, with an unconventional normalization.

Random walks on FKG-horizontally oriented lattices

We study the asymptotic behavior of the simple random walk on oriented version of $\mathbb{Z}^2$. The considered latticesare not directed on the vertical axis but unidirectional on the horizontal one, with symmetric random orientations which are positively correlated. We prove that the simple random walk is transient and also prove a functionnal limit theorem in the space of cadlag functions, with an unconventional normalization.
