Three-loop HTLpt thermodynamics at finite temperature and chemical potential

In this proceedings we present a state-of-the-art method of calculating thermodynamic potential at finite temperature and finite chemical potential, using Hard Thermal Loop perturbation theory (HTLpt) up to next-to-next-leading-order (NNLO). The resulting thermodynamic potential enables us to evaluate different thermodynamic quantities including pressure and various quark number susceptibilities (QNS). Comparison between our analytic results for those thermodynamic quantities with the available lattice data shows a good agreement.

Vector meson spectral function and dilepton rate in an effective mean field model

We have studied the vector meson spectral function (VMSF) in a hot and dense medium within an effective QCD model namely the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) and its Polyakov Loop extended version (PNJL) with and without the effect of isoscalar vector interaction (IVI). The effect of the IVI has been taken into account using the ring approximation. We obtained the dilepton production rate (DPR) using the VMSF and observed that at moderate temperature it is enhanced in the PNJL model as compared to the NJL and Born rate due to the suppression of color degrees of freedom.

Some Applications of Hard Thermal Loop Perturbation Theory in Quark Gluon Plasma

This thesis is mainly devoted to the study of thermodynamics for quantum Chromodynamics. In this thesis I apply hard-thermal-loop perturbation theory, which is a gauge-invariant reorganization of the conventional perturbative expansion for quantum gauge theories to study the thermodynamics of QCD in leading-order, next-to-leading-order and next-to-next-to-leading order at finite temperature and finite chemical potential. I also discuss about various order diagonal and off-diagonal quark number susceptibilities in leading order as well as beyond leading order. For all the observables, I compare our results with available lattice QCD data and we find good agreement. Along with the computation of thermodynamic quantities of hot and dense matter, I also discuss about low mass dilepton rate from hot and dense medium using both perturbative and non-perturbative models and compare them with those from lattice gauge theory and in-medium hadron gas.

Vector meson spectral function and dilepton production rate in a hot and dense medium within an effective QCD approach

The properties of the vector meson current-current correlation function and its spectral representation are investigated in details with and without isoscalar-vector interaction within the framework of effective QCD approach, namely Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model and its Polyakov Loop extended version (PNJL), at finite temperature and finite density. The influence of the isoscalarvector interaction on the vector meson correlator is obtained using the ring resummation known as the Random Phase Approximation (RPA). The spectral as well as the correlation function in PNJL model show that the vector meson retains its bound property up to a moderate value of temperature above the phase transition. Using the vector meson spectral function we, for the first time, obtained the dilepton production rate from a hot and dense medium within the framework of PNJL model that takes into account the nonperturbative effect through the Polyakov Loop fields. The dilepton production rate in PNJL model is enhanced compared to NJL and Born rate in the deconfined phase due to the suppression of color degrees of freedom at moderate temperature. The presence of isoscalar-vector interaction further enhances the dileption rate over the Born rate in the low mass region. Further, we also have computed the Euclidean correlation function in vector channel and the conserved density fluctuation associated with temporal correlation function appropriate for a hot and dense medium. The dilepton rate and the Euclidean correlator are also compared with available lattice data and those quantities in PNJL model are found to agree well in certain domain.

Equation of State for QCD at finite temperature and density. Resummation versus lattice data

The perturbative series for finite-temperature field theories has very poor convergence properties and one needs a way to reorganize it. In this talk, I review two ways of reorganizing the perturbative series for field theories at finite temperature and chemical potential, namely hard-thermal-loop perturbation theory (HTLpt) and dimensional reduction (DR). I will present results for the pressure, trace anomaly, speed of sound and the quark susceptibilities from a 3-loop HTLpt calculation and for the quark susceptibilities using DR at four loops. A careful comparison with available lattice data shows good agreement for a number of physical quantities.

Drag force in strongly coupled, anisotropic plasma at finite chemical potential

We employ methods of gauge/string duality to analyze the drag force on a heavy quark moving through a strongly coupled, anisotropic \mathcal{N}=4, SU(N) super Yang- Mills plasma in the presence of a finite U(1) chemical potential. We present numerical results valid for any value of the anisotropy parameter and the U(1) charge density and arbitrary direction of the quark velocity with respect to the direction of anisotropy. In the small anisotropy limit we are also able to furnish analytical results.

Three loop HTL perturbation theory at finite temperature and chemical potential

In this proceedings contribution we present a recent three-loop hard-thermal-loop perturbation theory (HTLpt) calculation of the thermodynamic potential for a finite temperature and chemical potential system of quarks and gluons. We compare the resulting pressure, trace anomaly, and diagonal/off-diagonal quark susceptibilities with lattice data. We show that there is good agreement between the three-loop HTLpt analytic result and available lattice data.

Three-loop HTLpt thermodynamics at finite temperature and chemical potential

We calculate the three-loop thermodynamic potential of QCD at finite temperature and chemical potential(s) using the hard-thermal-loop perturbation theory (HTLpt) reorganization of finite temperature and density QCD. The resulting analytic thermodynamic potential allows us to compute the pressure, energy density, and entropy density of the quark-gluon plasma. Using these we calculate the trace anomaly, speed of sound, and second-, fourth-, and sixth-order quark number susceptibilities. For all observables considered we find good agreement between our three-loop HTLpt calculations and available lattice data for temperatures above approximately 300 MeV.

Brownian motion in strongly coupled, anisotropic Yang-Mills plasma: A holographic approach

We employ methods of gauge/string duality to analyze the Brownian motion and the concomitant Langevin equation of a heavy quark in a strongly coupled, thermal, anisotropic Yang-Mills plasma. We consider fluctuations both along and perpendicular to the direction of anisotropy and study the effects of anisotropy on the drag coefficient, the diffusion constant and the Langevin coefficient for both the directions. We also verify the fluctuation-dissipation theorem for Brownian motion in an anisotropic medium.

Three-loop HTLpt Pressure and Susceptibilities at Finite Temperature and Density

We present results of a three-loop hard-thermal-loop perturbation theory calculation of the thermodynamical potential of a finite temperature and baryon chemical potential system of quarks and gluons. We compare the resulting pressure and diagonal quark susceptibilities with available lattice data. We find reasonable agreement between our analytic results and lattice data at both zero and finite chemical potential.

Dissociation of quarkonium in an anisotropic hot QCD medium

We have investigated the properties of quarkonium states in an anisotropic hot QCD medium by correcting the full Cornell potential, not the Coulomb term alone as usually done in the literature, with a dielectric function from the hard-loop resummed gluon propagator. We have found that in-medium modification in anisotropic medium causes less screening than in isotropic medium. In the short distance limit, potential does not show any medium dependence whereas in the long-distance limit, it reduces to the Coulomb potential with a dynamically screened color charge. In addition, anisotropy in momentum space introduces a characteristic angular dependence in the potential and as a result, quarkonium states in anisotropic medium are more tightly bound than in isotropic medium. In particular, quark pairs aligned in the direction of anisotropy are more bound than perpendicular to the direction of anisotropy.

Holographic quark-antiquark potential in hot, anisotropic Yang-Mills plasma

Using the gauge/gravity duality we calculate the heavy quark-antiquark potential in a hot, anisotropic and strongly coupled Yang-Mills plasma in (3+1)-dimensions. As the anisotropic medium we take a deformed version of \mathcal{N} = 4 super Yang-Mills theory at finite temperature following a recent work where the dual type IIB supergravity solution is also proposed. We turn on a small value of the anisotropy parameter, for which the gravity dual is known analytically (perturbatively), and compute the velocity-dependent quark-antiquark interaction potential when the pair is moving through the plasma with a velocity v. By setting v = 0 we recover the static quark-antiquark potential. We numerically study how the potential is modified in the presence of anisotropy. We further show numerically how the quark-antiquark separation (both in the static and the velocity-dependent case) and hence, the screening length gets modified by anisotropy. We discuss various cases depending upon the direction of the dipole and the direction of its propagation and make a comparative study of these cases. We are also able to obtain an analytical expression for the screening length of the dipole moving in a hot, anisotropic plasma in a special case.

Quark Number Susceptibilities from Two-Loop Hard Thermal Loop Perturbation Theory

We use the recently obtained two-loop hard thermal loop perturbation theory thermodynamics functions of a plasma of quarks and gluons to compute the diagonal second- and fourth-order quark number susceptibilities. The two-loop hard thermal loop perturbation theory thermodynamic functions used are reliable in the limit that the ratio of the quark chemical potential to temperature is small. Using this result, we are able to obtain (semi-)analytic expressions for the quark number susceptibilities at leading- and next-to-leading-order in hard thermal loop perturbation theory. We compare the hard thermal loop perturbation theory results with perturbative quantum chromodynamics calculations, a Polyakov-loop Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model calculation, and lattice quantum chromodynamics results.

Two-loop HTL pressure at finite temperature and chemical potential

We calculate the two-loop pressure of a plasma of quarks and gluons at finite temperature and chemical potential using the hard thermal loop perturbation theory (HTLpt) reorganization of finite temperature/density quantum chromodynamics. The computation utilizes a high temperature expansion through fourth order in the ratio of the chemical potential to temperature. This allows us to reliably access the region of high temperature and small chemical potential. We compare our final result for the two-loop HTLpt pressure at finite temperature and chemical potential with perturbative quantum chromodynamics (QCD) calculations and available lattice QCD results.

Wilson loops in noncommutative Yang-Mills theory using gauge/gravity duality

By using the gauge/gravity duality and the Maldacena prescription we compute the expectation values of the Wilson loops in noncommutative Yang-Mills (NCYM) theory in (3+1) dimensions. We consider both the time-like and the light-like Wilson loops. The gravity dual background is given by a particular decoupling limit of (D1,D3) bound state of type IIB string theory. We obtain the velocity dependent quark-antiquark potential and numerically study how the dipole length and the potential change with velocity (for 0 < v < 1, i.e., the Wilson loop is time-like) of the dipole as well as noncommutativity. We discuss and compare the results with the known commutative results. We also obtain an analytic expression for the screening length when the rapidity is large and the noncommutativity parameter is small with the product remaining small. When v \rightarrow 1, the time-like Wilson loop becomes light-like and in that case we obtain the form of the jet quenching parameter for the strongly coupled noncommutative Yang-Mills plasma which matches with our earlier results obtained using different method.

A Modified Hard Thermal Loop Perturbation Theory

Based on the external perturbation that disturbs the system only slightly from its equilibrium position we make the Taylor expansion of the pressure of a quark gas. It turns out that the first term was used in the literature to construct a Hard Thermal Loop perturbation theory (HTLpt) within the variation principle of the lowest order of the thermal mass parameter. Various thermodynamic quantities within the 1-loop HTLpt encountered overcounting of the leading order (LO) contribution and also required a separation scale for soft and hard momenta. Using same variational principle we reconstruct the HTLpt at the first derivative level of the pressure that takes into account the effect of the variation of the external source through the conserved density fluctuation. This modification markedly improves those quantities in 1-loop HTLpt in a simple way instead of pushing the calculation to a considerably more complicated 2-loop HTLpt. Moreover, the results also agree with those obtained in the 2-loop approximately self-consistent Φ-derivable Hard Thermal Loop resummation. We also discuss how this formalism can be extended for the higher order contributions

Quark Number Susceptibility and Thermodynamics in HTL approximation

In HTL perturbation theory we obtain leading order quark number susceptibility as a response to an external disturbance, viz., chemical potential (μ) that generates density fluctuation, which is related to the correlation function through the thermodynamic sum rule associated with the symmetry of the system. We also obtain various thermodynamic quantities in leading order.

Conserved Density Fluctuation and Temporal Correlation Function in HTL Perturbation Theory

Considering recently developed Hard Thermal Loop perturbation theory that takes into account the effect of the variation of the external field through the fluctuations of a conserved quantity we calculate the temporal component of the Euclidian correlation function in the vector channel. The results are found to be in good agreement with the very recent results obtained within the quenched approximation of QCD and small values of the quark mass ($\sim 0.1T$) on improved lattices of size $128^3\times N_τ$ at ($N_τ=40, \ T=1.2T_C$), ($N_τ=48, \ T=1.45T_C$), and ($N_τ=16, \ T=2.98T_C$), where $N_τ$ is the temporal extent of the lattice. This suggests that the results from lattice QCD and Hard Thermal Loop perturbation theory are in close proximity for a quantity associated with the conserved density fluctuation.
