UOT-IR: Structured Routing of High-Polyphony Symbolic Music into Fixed-Budget Representations

High-polyphony symbolic music is increasingly used in generation, analysis, and arrangement, yet many downstream tasks require bounded representations with fixed tracks or slots. Converting richly orchestrated scores into compact forms is therefore necessary, but existing approaches relying on heuristic simplification or generic representation-space reduction often fail to preserve structural roles, orchestration compatibility, and playability under strict budgets. To address the issue, this study reformulates the compression problem as a fixed-budget structured routing problem and proposes Unbalanced Optimal Transport for Information Routing (UOT-IR), a training-free framework based on constrained unbalanced optimal transport. UOT-IR combines an orchestration prior, adaptive marginal relaxation, temporal decoding, and playability-aware projection to produce compact and musically coherent bounded representations. This work further studies two practical settings under the same slot budget: template standardization, which maps each input to a predefined bounded template, and adaptive preservation, which retains representative content without assuming an external template. Experiments on the SymphonyNet corpus show that UOT-IR delivers strong overall performance across both settings, including the best Note-F1 in adaptive preservation (0.9120), together with the lowest structural cost (14.7165) and bad structural confusion rate (0.3406) in template standardization. This work establishes a principled paradigm for fixed-budget symbolic music compression, offering a practical path toward compact, structured, and musically coherent symbolic representations.

SymphonyGen: 3D Hierarchical Orchestral Generation with Controllable Harmony Skeleton

Generating symphonic music requires simultaneously managing high-level structural form and dense, multi-track orchestration, yet existing symbolic models often struggle with a "complexity-control imbalance" between scalability and steerability. We present SymphonyGen, a 3D hierarchical framework for contemporary orchestral generation, whose cascading decoders decompose the bar, track, and event axes, keeping decoding memory far below flat token streams and enabling conditioning at every structural level. A beat-quantized multi-pitch harmony skeleton, which may be user-written, analyzed, or model-generated, provides "short-score" conditioning, enabling outline control while producing orchestral textures. The model is refined with reinforcement learning against a cross-modal acoustic reward from CLaMP 3 audio embeddings, and a dissonance-averse sampling algorithm suppresses unintended tonal clashes during inference. Objective evaluations show that both post-training mechanisms reduce dissonance while maintaining independent melodic metrics, and in subjective tests SymphonyGen is rated above baseline systems in quality and preference, significantly so among general listeners.

AIM 2020 Challenge on Efficient Super-Resolution: Methods and Results

This paper reviews the AIM 2020 challenge on efficient single image super-resolution with focus on the proposed solutions and results. The challenge task was to super-resolve an input image with a magnification factor x4 based on a set of prior examples of low and corresponding high resolution images. The goal is to devise a network that reduces one or several aspects such as runtime, parameter count, FLOPs, activations, and memory consumption while at least maintaining PSNR of MSRResNet. The track had 150 registered participants, and 25 teams submitted the final results. They gauge the state-of-the-art in efficient single image super-resolution.

NTIRE 2020 Challenge on Real Image Denoising: Dataset, Methods and Results

This paper reviews the NTIRE 2020 challenge on real image denoising with focus on the newly introduced dataset, the proposed methods and their results. The challenge is a new version of the previous NTIRE 2019 challenge on real image denoising that was based on the SIDD benchmark. This challenge is based on a newly collected validation and testing image datasets, and hence, named SIDD+. This challenge has two tracks for quantitatively evaluating image denoising performance in (1) the Bayer-pattern rawRGB and (2) the standard RGB (sRGB) color spaces. Each track ~250 registered participants. A total of 22 teams, proposing 24 methods, competed in the final phase of the challenge. The proposed methods by the participating teams represent the current state-of-the-art performance in image denoising targeting real noisy images. The newly collected SIDD+ datasets are publicly available at: https://bit.ly/siddplus_data.

NTIRE 2020 Challenge on Image Demoireing: Methods and Results

This paper reviews the Challenge on Image Demoireing that was part of the New Trends in Image Restoration and Enhancement (NTIRE) workshop, held in conjunction with CVPR 2020. Demoireing is a difficult task of removing moire patterns from an image to reveal an underlying clean image. The challenge was divided into two tracks. Track 1 targeted the single image demoireing problem, which seeks to remove moire patterns from a single image. Track 2 focused on the burst demoireing problem, where a set of degraded moire images of the same scene were provided as input, with the goal of producing a single demoired image as output. The methods were ranked in terms of their fidelity, measured using the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) between the ground truth clean images and the restored images produced by the participants' methods. The tracks had 142 and 99 registered participants, respectively, with a total of 14 and 6 submissions in the final testing stage. The entries span the current state-of-the-art in image and burst image demoireing problems.

Harmonics Based Representation in Clarinet Tone Quality Evaluation

Music tone quality evaluation is generally performed by experts. It could be subjective and short of consistency and fairness as well as time-consuming. In this paper we present a new method for identifying the clarinet reed quality by evaluating tone quality based on the harmonic structure and energy distribution. We first decouple the quality of reed and clarinet pipe based on the acoustic harmonics, and discover that the reed quality is strongly relevant to the even parts of the harmonics. Then we construct a features set consisting of the even harmonic envelope and the energy distribution of harmonics in spectrum. The annotated clarinet audio data are recorded from 3 levels of performers and the tone quality is classified by machine learning. The results show that our new method for identifying low and medium high tones significantly outperforms previous methods.

Enhanced Ferroelectricity and Spin Current Waves in M-Type Barium Hexaferrite

The intrinsic ferroelectricity and related dielectric properties of M-type Barium Hexaferrite (BaFe12O19) with excellent magnetic performance are reported in this paper. A classic electric polarization (P-E) hysteresis loop with full saturation, together with two nonlinear reversal current peaks in the I-V curve and huge change of dielectric constant in the vicinity of Curie temperature, have all demonstrated themselves as sufficient experimental evidences to verify the ferroelectricity of BaFe12O19 ceramics. It holds a large remnant polarization at 108 uC/cm2 and a suitable coercive field at 117 kV/cm. Two peaks at 194C and 451C in the temperature-dependent dielectric spectrum of BaFe12O19 ceramics are considered to be the phase transition from ferro- to antiferro- and antiferro- to para-electric structures. A conventional strong magnetic hysteresis loop was also observed. The magnetically induced polarization upon the BaFe12O19 ceramics was achieved in the form of alternating spin current waves. A ME-coupling voltage with an amplitude of 23mV on an applied magnetic field at 500mT was achieved. These combined multiple functional responses of large ferroelectrics and strong ferromagnetism reveal the excellent multiferroic features of BaFe12O19, which would bring forth the great opportunity to create novel electric devices with active coupling effect between magnetic and electric orders.

AIM 2019 Challenge on Constrained Super-Resolution: Methods and Results

This paper reviews the AIM 2019 challenge on constrained example-based single image super-resolution with focus on proposed solutions and results. The challenge had 3 tracks. Taking the three main aspects (i.e., number of parameters, inference/running time, fidelity (PSNR)) of MSRResNet as the baseline, Track 1 aims to reduce the amount of parameters while being constrained to maintain or improve the running time and the PSNR result, Tracks 2 and 3 aim to optimize running time and PSNR result with constrain of the other two aspects, respectively. Each track had an average of 64 registered participants, and 12 teams submitted the final results. They gauge the state-of-the-art in single image super-resolution.
