Secure Transmission for Relay Wiretap Channels in the Presence of Spatially Random Eavesdroppers

We propose a secure transmission scheme for a relay wiretap channel, where a source communicates with a destination via a decode-and-forward relay in the presence of spatially random-distributed eavesdroppers. We assume that the source is equipped with multiple antennas, whereas the relay, the destination, and the eavesdroppers are equipped with a single antenna each. In the proposed scheme, in addition to information signals, the source transmits artificial noise signals in order to confuse the eavesdroppers. With the target of maximizing the secrecy throughput of the relay wiretap channel, we derive a closed-form expression for the transmission outage probability and an easy-to-compute expression for the secrecy outage probability. Using these expressions, we determine the optimal power allocation factor and wiretap code rates that guarantee the maximum secrecy throughput, while satisfying a secrecy outage probability constraint. Furthermore, we examine the impact of source antenna number on the secrecy throughput, showing that adding extra transmit antennas at the source brings about a significant increase in the secrecy throughput.

Optimization of Code Rates in SISOME Wiretap Channels

We propose a new framework for determining the wiretap code rates of single-input single-output multi-antenna eavesdropper (SISOME) wiretap channels when the capacity of the eavesdropper's channel is not available at the transmitter. In our framework we introduce the effective secrecy throughput (EST) as a new performance metric that explicitly captures the two key features of wiretap channels, namely, reliability and secrecy. Notably, the EST measures the average rate of the confidential information transmitted from the transmitter to the intended receiver without being eavesdropped on. We provide easy-to-implement methods to determine the wiretap code rates for two transmission schemes: 1) adaptive transmission scheme in which the capacity of the main channel is available at the transmitter and 2) fixed-rate transmission scheme in which the capacity of the main channel is not available at the transmitter. Such determinations are further extended into an absolute-passive eavesdropping scenario where even the average signal-to-noise ratio of the eavesdropper's channel is not available at the transmitter. Notably, our solutions for the wiretap code rates do not require us to set reliability or secrecy constraints for the transmission within wiretap channels.

Entanglement distribution over quantum code-division-multiple-access networks

We present a method for quantum entanglement distribution over a so-called code-division-multiple-access network, in which two pairs of users share the same quantum channel to transmit information. The main idea of this method is to use different broad-band chaotic phase shifts, generated by electro-optic modulators (EOMs) and chaotic Colpitts circuits, to encode the information-bearing quantum signals coming from different users, and then recover the masked quantum signals at the receiver side by imposing opposite chaotic phase shifts. The chaotic phase shifts given to different pairs of users are almost uncorrelated due to the randomness of chaos and thus the quantum signals from different pair of users can be distinguished even when they are sent via the same quantum channel. It is shown that two maximally-entangled states can be generated between two pairs of users by our method mediated by bright coherent lights, which can be more easily implemented in experiments compared with single-photon lights. Our method is robust under the channel noises if only the decay rates of the information-bearing fields induced by the channel noises are not quite high. Our study opens up new perspectives for addressing and transmitting quantum information in future quantum networks.

Noise suppression of on-chip mechanical resonators by chaotic coherent feedback

We propose a method to decouple the nanomechanical resonator in optomechanical systems from the environmental noise by introducing a chaotic coherent feedback loop. We find that the chaotic controller in the feedback loop can modulate the dynamics of the controlled optomechanical system and induce a broadband response of the mechanical mode. This broadband response of the mechanical mode will cut off the coupling between the mechanical mode and the environment and thus suppress the environmental noise of the mechanical modes. As an application, we use the protected optomechanical system to act as a quantum memory. It's shown that the noise-decoupled optomechanical quantum memory is efficient for storing information transferred from coherent or squeezed light.

Nonlinear Electromagnetic Quasinormal Modes and Hawking Radiation of A Regular Black Hole with Magnetic Charge

Based on a regular exact black hole (BH) from nonlinear electrodynamics (NED) coupled to General Relativity, we investigate its stability of such BH through the Quasinormal Modes (QNMs) of electromagnetic (EM) field perturbation and its thermodynamics through Hawking radiation. In perturbation theory, we can deduce the effective potential from nonlinear EM field. The comparison of potential function between regular and RN BHs could predict their similar QNMs. The QNMs frequencies tell us the effect of magnetic charge $q$, overtone $n$, angular momentum number $l$ on the dynamic evolution of NLED EM field. Furthermore we also discuss the cases near extreme condition of such magnetically charged regular BH. The corresponding QNMs spectrum illuminates some special properties in the near-extreme cases. For the thermodynamics, we employ Hamilton-Jacobi method to calculate the near-horizon Hawking temperature of the regular BH and reveal the relationship between classical parameters of black hole and its quantum effect.

Radical-Enhanced Chinese Character Embedding

We present a method to leverage radical for learning Chinese character embedding. Radical is a semantic and phonetic component of Chinese character. It plays an important role as characters with the same radical usually have similar semantic meaning and grammatical usage. However, existing Chinese processing algorithms typically regard word or character as the basic unit but ignore the crucial radical information. In this paper, we fill this gap by leveraging radical for learning continuous representation of Chinese character. We develop a dedicated neural architecture to effectively learn character embedding and apply it on Chinese character similarity judgement and Chinese word segmentation. Experiment results show that our radical-enhanced method outperforms existing embedding learning algorithms on both tasks.

Transmit Antenna Selection with Alamouti Scheme in MIMO Wiretap Channels

This paper proposes a new transmit antenna selection (TAS) scheme which provides enhanced physical layer security in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wiretap channels. The practical passive eavesdropping scenario we consider is where channel state information (CSI) from the eavesdropper is not available at the transmitter. Our new scheme is carried out in two steps. First, the transmitter selects the first two strongest antennas based on the feedback from the receiver, which maximizes the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the transmitter-receiver channel. Second, the Alamouti scheme is employed at the selected antennas in order to perform data transmission. At the receiver and the eavesdropper, maximal-ratio combining is applied in order to exploit the multiple antennas. We derive a new closed-form expression for the secrecy outage probability in nonidentical Rayleigh fading, and using this result, we then present the probability of non-zero secrecy capacity in closed form and the ε-outage secrecy capacity in numerical form. We demonstrate that our proposed TAS-Alamouti scheme offers lower secrecy outage probability than a single TAS scheme when the SNR of the transmitter-receiver channel is above a specific value.

Charge localization at the interface between La1-xSrxMnO3 and the infinite layers cuprate CaCuO2

(CaCuO2)m/(La0.7Sr0.3MnO3)n superlattices, consisting of the infinite layers cuprate CaCuO2 and the optimally doped manganite La1-xSrxMnO3, were grown by pulsed laser deposition. The transport properties are dominated by the manganite block. X-Ray Absorption spectroscopy measurements show a clear evidence of an orbital reconstruction at the interface, ascribed to the hybridization between the Cu 3d3z2-r2 and the Mn 3d3z2-r2 orbitals via interface apical oxygen ions. Such a mechanism localizes holes at the interfaces, thus preventing charge transfer to the CaCuO2 block. Some charge (holes) transfer occurs toward the La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 block in strongly oxidized superlattices, contributing to the suppression of the magnetotransport properties.

Symbol Error Rate of Space-Time Network Coding in Nakagami-m Fading

In this paper, we analyze the symbol error rate (SER) of space-time network coding (STNC) in a distributed cooperative network over independent but not necessarily identically distributed (i.n.i.d.) Nakagami-$m$ fading channels. In this network, multiple sources communicate with a single destination with the assistance of multiple decode-and-forward (DF) relays. We first derive new exact closed-form expressions for the SER with $M$-ary phase shift-keying modulation ($M$-PSK) and $M$-ary quadrature amplitude modulation ($M$-QAM). We then derive new compact expressions for the asymptotic SER to offer valuable insights into the network behavior in the high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime. Importantly, we demonstrate that STNC guarantees full diversity order, which is determined by the Nakagami-$m$ fading parameters of all the channels but independent of the number of sources. Based on the new expressions, we examine the impact of the number of relays, relay location, Nakagami-$m$ fading parameters, power allocation, and nonorthogonal codes on the SER.

Local geometry of electromagnetic fields and its role in molecular multipole transitions

Electromagnetic fields with complex spatial variation routinely arise in Nature. We study the response of a small molecule to monochromatic fields of arbitrary three-dimensional geometry. First, we consider the allowed configurations of the fields and field gradients at a single point in space. Many configurations cannot be generated from a single plane wave, regardless of polarization, but any allowed configuration can be generated by superposition of multiple plane waves. There is no local configuration of the fields and gradients that requires near-field effects. Second, we derive a set of local electromagnetic quantities, where each couples to a particular multipole transition. These quantities are small or zero in plane waves, but can be large in regions of certain superpositions of plane waves. Our findings provide a systematic framework for designing far-field and near-field experiments to drive multipole transitions. The proposed experiments provide information on molecular structure that is inaccessible to other spectroscopic techniques, and open the possibility for new types of optical control of molecules.

Resonant Interaction Between a Weak Gravitational Wave and a Microwave Beam in the Double Polarized States Through a Static Magnetic Field

We investigate the resonant interaction to the weak gravitational waves in a coupling electromagnetic system, which consists of a Gaussian beam with the double polarized transverse electric modes, a static magnetic field and the fractal membranes. We find that under the syncroresonance condition a high-frequency GW (HFGW) of h=10^-30,v_g=3GHz may produce the perturbative photon flux (PPF) of 2.15*10/s in a surface of 0.01m^2. The PPF can be pumped out from the background photon fluxes and one might obtain the amplified signal photon flux of 2.15*10^4s^-1 by cascade fractal membranes. It appears to be worthwhile to study this effect for the detection of the high-frequency relic GWs in quintessential inflationary models and the HFGWs expected by possible laboratory schemes.
