BOOST -- A Satellite Mission to Test Lorentz Invariance Using High-Performance Optical Frequency References

BOOST (BOOst Symmetry Test) is a proposed satellite mission to search for violations of Lorentz invariance by comparing two optical frequency references. One is based on a long-term stable optical resonator and the other on a hyperfine transition in molecular iodine. This mission will allow to determine several parameters of the standard model extension in the electron sector up to two orders of magnitude better than with the current best experiments. Here, we will give an overview of the mission, the science case and the payload.

Quantum Mechanics of a Rotating Billiard

Integrability of a square billiard is spontaneously broken as it rotates about one of its corners. The system becomes quasi-integrable where the invariant tori are broken with respect to a certain parameter, $λ= 2E/ω^{2}$ where E is the energy of the particle inside the billiard and $ω$ is the angular frequency of rotation of billiard. We study the system classically and quantum mechanically in view of obtaining a correspondence in the two descriptions. Classical phase space in Poincaré surface of section shows transition from regular to chaotic motion as the parameter $λ$ is decreased. In the Quantum counterpart, the spectral statistics shows a transition from Poisson to Wigner distribution as the system turns chaotic with decrease in $λ$. The wavefunction statistics however show breakdown of time-reversal symmetry as $λ$ decreases.

Spectral domain ghost imaging

In the last few years, the field of ghost imaging has seen many new developments. From computational ghost imaging to 3D ghost imaging, this field has shown many interesting applications. But the method of obtaining an image in ghost imaging experiments still requires data to be recorded over long duration of time due to averaging over many shots of data. We propose a method to get the intensity correlated images in one shot by averaging over different wavelength components rather than different time components.
