Uniformly Cohen-Macaulay simplicial complexes and almost Gorenstein* simplicial complexes

In this paper, we study simplicial complexes whose Stanley-Reisner rings are almost Gorenstein and have $a$-invariant zero. We call such a simplicial complex an almost Gorenstein* simplicial complex. To study the almost Gorenstein* property, we introduce a new class of simplicial complexes which we call uniformly Cohen-Macaulay simplicial complexes. A $d$-dimensional simplicial complex $Δ$ is said to be uniformly Cohen-Macaulay if it is Cohen-Macaulay and, for any facet $F$ of $Δ$, the simplicial complex $Δ\setminus\{F\}$ is Cohen-Macaulay of dimension $d$. We investigate fundamental algebraic, combinatorial and topological properties of these simplicial complexes, and show that almost Gorenstein* simplicial complexes must be uniformly Cohen-Macaulay. By using this fact, we show that every almost Gorenstein* simplicial complex can be decomposed into those of having one dimensional top homology. Also, we give a combinatorial criterion of the almost Gorenstein* property for simplicial complexes of dimension $\leq 2$.

The almost Gorenstein Rees algebras of parameters

There is given a characterization for the Rees algebras of parameters in a Gorenstein local ring to be almost Gorenstein graded rings. A characterization is also given for the Rees algebras of socle ideals of parameters. The latter one shows almost Gorenstein Rees algebras rather rarely exist for socle ideals, if the dimension of the base local ring is greater than two.

The almost Gorenstein Rees algebras over two-dimensional regular local rings

Let $(R,\mathfrak{m})$ be a two-dimensional regular local ring with infinite residue class field. Then the Rees algebra $\mathcal{R} (I)= \bigoplus_{n \ge 0}I^n$ of $I$ is an almost Gorenstein graded ring in the sense of Goto-Takahashi-Taniguchi for every $\mathfrak{m}$-primary integrally closed ideal $I$ in $R$.

Almost Gorenstein rings

The notion of almost Gorenstein ring given by Barucci and Fr{ö}berg \cite{BF} in the case where the local rings are analytically unramified is generalized, so that it works well also in the case where the rings are analytically ramified. As a sequel, the problem of when the endomorphism algebra $\m : \m$ of $\m$ is a Gorenstein ring is solved in full generality, where $\m$ denotes the maximal ideal in a given Cohen-Macaulay local ring of dimension one. Characterizations of almost Gorenstein rings are given in connection with the principle of idealization. Examples are explored.

On finite generation of symbolic Rees rings of space monomial curves and existence of negative curves

In this paper, we shall study finite generation of symbolic Rees rings of the defining ideal of the space monomial curves $(t^a, t^b, t^c)$ for pairwise coprime integers $a$, $b$, $c$ such that $(a,b,c) \neq (1,1,1)$. If such a ring is not finitely generated over a base field, then it is a counterexample to the Hilbert's fourteenth problem. Finite generation of such rings is deeply related to existence of negative curves on certain normal projective surfaces. We study a sufficient condition (Definition 3.6) for existence of a negative curve. Using it, we prove that, in the case of $(a+b+c)^2 > abc$, a negative curve exists. Using a computer, we shall show that there exist examples in which this sufficient condition is not satisfied.

Quasi-socle ideals in local rings with Gorenstein tangent cones

Quasi-socle ideals, that is the ideals $I$ of the form $I= Q : \mathfrak{m}^q$ in a Noetherian local ring $(A, \mathfrak{m})$ with the Gorenstein tangent cone $\mathrm{G}(\mathfrak{m}) = \bigoplus_{n \geq 0}{\mathfrak{m}}^n/{\mathfrak{m}}^{n+1}$ are explored, where $q \geq 1$ is an integer and $Q$ is a parameter ideal of $A$ generated by monomials of a system $x_1, x_2, ..., x_d$ of elements in $A$ such that $(x_1, x_2, ..., x_d)$ is a reduction of $\mathfrak{m}$. The questions of when $I$ is integral over $Q$ and of when the graded rings $\mathrm{G}(I) = \bigoplus_{n \geq 0}I^n/I^{n+1}$ and $\mathrm{F}(I) = \bigoplus_{n \ge 0}I^n/\mathfrak{m} I^n$ are Cohen-Macaulay are answered. Criteria for $\mathrm{G} (I)$ and $\mathcal{R} (I) = \bigoplus_{n \geq 0}I^n$ to be Gorenstein rings are given.

Quasi-socle ideals in Gorenstein numerical semigroup rings

Quasi-socle ideals, that is the ideals $I$ of the form $I= Q : \mathfrak{m}^q$ in Gorenstein numerical semigroup rings over fields are explored, where $Q$ is a parameter ideal, and $\mathfrak{m}$ is the maximal ideal in the base local ring, and $q \geq 1$ is an integer. The problems of when $I$ is integral over $Q$ and of when the associated graded ring $\mathrm{G}(I) = \bigoplus_{n \geq 0}I^n/I^{n+1}$ of $I$ is Cohen-Macaulay are studied. The problems are rather wild; examples are given.

Quasi-socle ideals in a Gorenstein local ring

This paper explores the structure of quasi-socle ideals I=Q:m^2 in a Gorenstein local ring A, where Q is a parameter ideal and m is the maximal ideal in A. The purpose is to answer the problem of when Q is a reduction of I and when the associated graded ring G(I) = \bigoplus_{n \geq 0}I^n/I^{n+1} is Cohen-Macaulay. Wild examples are explored.
