One-Shot Private Classical Capacity of Quantum Wiretap Channel: Based on one-shot quantum covering lemma

In this work we study the problem of communication over the quantum wiretap channel. For this channel there are three parties Alice (sender), Bob (legitimate receiver) and Eve (eavesdropper). We obtain upper and lower bounds on the amount of information Alice can communicate to Bob such that Eve gets to know as little information as possible about the transmitted messages. Our bounds are in terms of quantum hypothesis testing divergence and smooth max quantum relative entropy. To obtain our result we prove a one-shot version of the quantum covering lemma along with operator Chernoff bound for non-square matrices.

Coding for classical-quantum channels with rate limited side information at the encoder: An information-spectrum approach

We study the hybrid classical-quantum version of the channel coding problem for the famous Gel'fand-Pinsker channel. In the classical setting for this channel the conditional distribution of the channel output given the channel input is a function of a random parameter called the channel state. We study this problem when a rate limited version of the channel state is available at the encoder for the classical-quantum Gel'fand-Pinsker channel. We establish the capacity region for this problem in the information-spectrum setting. The capacity region is quantified in terms of spectral-sup classical mutual information rate and spectral-inf quantum mutual information rate.

Simple one-shot bounds for various source coding problems using smooth Renyi quantities

We consider the problem of source compression under three different scenarios in the one-shot (non- asymptotic) regime. To be specific, we prove one-shot achievability and converse bounds on the coding rates for distributed source coding, source coding with coded side information available at the decoder and source coding under maximum distortion criterion. The one-shot bounds obtained are in terms of smooth max Renyi entropy and smooth max Renyi divergence. Our results are powerful enough to yield the results that are known for these problems in the asymptotic regime both in the i.i.d. (independent and identically distributed) and non-i.i.d. settings

One-shot source coding with coded side information available at the decoder

One-shot achievable rate region for source coding when coded side information is available at the decoder (source coding with a helper) is proposed. The achievable region proposed is in terms of conditional smooth max Renyi entropy and smooth max Renyi divergence. Asymptotically (in the limit of large block lengths) this region is quantified in terms of spectral-sup conditional entropy rate and spectral- sup mutual information rate. In particular, it coincides with the rate region derived in the limit of unlimited independent and identically distributed copies of the sources.

Non-asymptotic information theoretic bound for some multi-party scenarios

In the last few years, there has been a great interest in extending the information-theoretic scenario for the non-asymptotic or one-shot case, i.e., where the channel is used only once. We provide the one-shot rate region for the distributed source-coding (Slepian-Wolf) and the multiple-access channel. Our results are based on defining a novel one-shot typical set based on smooth entropies that yields the one-shot achievable rate regions while leveraging the results from the asymptotic analysis. Our results are asymptotically optimal, i.e., for the distributed source coding they yield the same rate region as the Slepian-Wolf in the limit of unlimited independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) copies. Similarly for the multiple-access channel the asymptotic analysis of our approach yields the rate region which is equal to the rate region of the memoryless multiple-access channel in the limit of large number of channel uses.

On the strong converses for the quantum channel capacity theorems

A unified approach to prove the converses for the quantum channel capacity theorems is presented. These converses include the strong converse theorems for classical or quantum information transfer with error exponents and novel explicit upper bounds on the fidelity measures reminiscent of the Wolfowitz strong converse for the classical channel capacity theorems. We provide a new proof for the error exponents for the classical information transfer. A long standing problem in quantum information theory has been to find out the strong converse for the channel capacity theorem when quantum information is sent across the channel. We give the quantum error exponent thereby giving a one-shot exponential upper bound on the fidelity. We then apply our results to show that the strong converse holds for the quantum information transfer across an erasure channel for maximally entangled channel inputs.

Power Control in Multiuser Mulicarrier Wireless Data Networks

A game-theoretic model is presented to study the management of transmission power in a wireless data network. We propose a power game for a multiuser multicarrier setting where all the users are assumed to transmit at equal rate. At equilibrium, each user is shown to transmit over a single carrier, as in [Mehskati et al., 2006]. We derive the necessary conditions on the path gains when the Nash equilibrium point exists. We further prove the existence of the Nash equilibrium point using the concept of locally gross direction preserving map. A greedy algorithm is proposed and its correctness is established, where each user acts selfishly to achieve the Nash equilibrium point.
