Fano Generalized Bott-Samelson Varieties

The Bott-Samelson varieties provide natural desingularizations of Schubert varieties, and their generalizations, called generalized Bott-Samelson varieties, were constructed by Nicolas Perrin as towers of locally trivial fibrations with fibers isomorphic to Schubert varieties. In this article, we give a complete characterization of Fano and weak Fano generalized Bott-Samelson varieties. As a consequence, we recover the corresponding results for ($G$-)Bott-Samelson varieties and minuscule generalized Bott-Samelson varieties.

The Gromov width of generalized Bott-Samelson manifolds

We study the Gromov width of smooth generalized Bott-Samelson varieties, a class of projective varieties constructed by Perrin in \cite{Per07} as a generalization of classical Bott-Samelson resolutions of Schubert varieties. We show that the Gromov width of such a variety equipped with a rational Kähler form is given by the symplectic area of its minimal rational curves. As a consequence, we obtain upper bounds for the Seshadri constants of these varieties with respect to ample line bundles.

On intersection cohomology with torus action of complexity one, II

We show that the components, appearing in the decomposition theorem for contraction maps of torus actions of complexity one, are intersection cohomology complexes of even codimensional subvarieties. As a consequence, we obtain the vanishing of the odd dimensional intersection cohomology for rational complete varieties with torus action of complexity one. The article also presents structural results on linear torus action in order to compute the intersection cohomology from the weight matrix. In particular, we determine the intersection cohomology Betti numbers of affine trinomial hypersurfaces in terms of their defining equation.

On the GIT quotient of Grassmannians by one dimensional torus

We consider the action of the one-parameter subgroup of the special linear group corresponding to a simple root on Grassmannians and describe the structure of the associated Geometric Invariant Theory (GIT) quotients with respect to Plücker line bundle. Using the combinatorics of Weyl group elements, we explicitly describe the semistable loci and identify cases where the resulting quotient admits the structure of a parabolic induction of a projective space. We further analyze the orbit structure under the Levi subgroup, compute the Picard group, connected component of the automorphism group and examine key geometric features such as Fano properties, cohomology of line bundles, and projective normality with respect to the descended linearization.

A note on the Gromov width of toric manifolds

The Gromov width of a uniruled projective Kähler manifold can be bounded from above by the symplectic area of its minimal curves. We apply this result to toric varieties and thus get in this case upper bounds expressed in toric combinatorial invariants.

The Gromov width of Bott-Samelson varieties

We prove that the Gromov width of any Bott-Samelson variety birational to a Schubert variety and equipped with a rational Kähler form equals the symplectic area of a minimal curve. From this, we derive an estimate for the Seshadri constants of ample line bundles on Bott-Samelson varieties.

Standard monomial theory and toric degenerations of Richardson varieties in flag varieties

We study standard monomial bases for Richardson varieties inside the flag variety. In general, writing down a standard monomial basis for a Richardson variety can be challenging, as it involves computing so-called defining chains or key tableaux. However, for a certain family of Richardson varieties, indexed by compatible permutations, we provide a very direct and straightforward combinatorial rule for writing down a standard monomial basis. We apply this result to the study of toric degenerations of Richardson varieties. In particular, we provide a new family of toric degenerations of Richardson varieties inside flag varieties.

Standard monomial theory and toric degenerations of Richardson varieties in the Grassmannian

Richardson varieties are obtained as intersections of Schubert and opposite Schubert varieties. We provide a new family of toric degenerations of Richardson varieties inside Grassmannians by studying Gröbner degenerations of their corresponding ideals. These degenerations are parametrised by block diagonal matching fields in the sense of Sturmfels-Zelevinsky. We associate a weight vector to each block diagonal matching field and study its corresponding initial ideal. In particular, we characterise when such ideals are toric, hence providing a family of toric degenerations for Richardson varieties. Given a Richardson variety $X_{w}^v$ and a weight vector ${\bf w}_\ell$ arising from a matching field, we consider two ideals: an ideal $G_{k,n,\ell}|_w^v$ obtained by restricting the initial of the Plücker ideal to a smaller polynomial ring, and a toric ideal defined as the kernel of a monomial map $ϕ_\ell|_w^v$. We first characterise the monomial-free ideals of form $G_{k,n,\ell}|_w^v$. Then we construct a family of tableaux in bijection with semi-standard Young tableaux which leads to a monomial basis for the corresponding quotient ring. Finally, we prove that when $G_{k,n,\ell}|_w^v$ is monomial-free and the initial ideal in$_{{\bf w}_\ell}(I(X_w^v))$ is quadratically generated, then all three ideals in$_{{\bf w}_\ell}(I(X_w^v))$, $G_{k,n,\ell}|_w^v$ and ker$(ϕ_\ell|_w^v)$ coincide, and provide a toric degeneration of $X_w^v$.

On the torus quotients of Schubert varieties

In this paper, we consider the GIT quotients of Schubert varieties for the action of a maximal torus. We describe the minuscule Schubert varieties for which the semistable locus is contained in the smooth locus. As a consequence, we study the smoothness of torus quotients of Schubert varieties in the Grassmannian. We also prove that the torus quotient of any Schubert variety in the homogeneous space $SL(n, \mathbb C)/P$ is projectively normal with respect to the line bundle $\mathcal L_{α_0}$ and the quotient space is a projective space, where the line bundle $\mathcal L_{α_0}$ and the parabolic subgroup $P$ of $SL (n, \mathbb C)$ are associated to the highest root $α_0$.

Standard monomial theory and toric degenerations of Richardson varieties inside Grassmannians and flag varieties

We study toric degenerations of opposite Schubert and Richardson varieties inside degenerations of Grassmannians and flag varieties. These degenerations are parametrized by matching fields in the sense of Sturmfels and Zelevinsky. We construct so-called restricted matching field ideals whose generating sets are understood combinatorially through tableaux. We determine when these ideals are toric and coincide with Gröbner degenerations of Richardson varieties using the well established standard monomial theory for Grassmannians and flag varieties.
