Extraction of Pion Unpolarized Quark and Gluon Generalized Parton Distributions using Deep Neural-Networks

We present a deep neural-network (DNN) extraction of the pion unpolarized quark and gluon generalized parton distributions (GPDs) using the corresponding parton distribution functions (PDFs) from the JAM21 and xFitter analysis, together with experimental measurements of the pion electromagnetic form factor (EMFF) and lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) results. The GPDs are parameterized using a physics-informed neural-network (PINN) that incorporates the known PDF behavior, an exponential momentum-transfer dependence, and a trainable neural network (NN) component. The network parameters are determined by minimizing a $\chi^2$-based loss function. For the valence-quark GPDs, the loss function includes contributions from the EMFF, squared EMFF, charge-normalization constraints, and regularization terms. For the gluon GPDs, it incorporates constraints from the gluon gravitational form factors together with regularization. This framework enables a flexible, nonparametric extraction while preserving the essential theoretical and phenomenological constraints. By employing the full ensemble of available PDF replicas, we quantify the uncertainties of the extracted GPDs over a broad kinematic range in the longitudinal momentum fraction and momentum transfer, with the uncertainty bands corresponding to the $1\sigma$ confidence interval. The extracted valence-quark GPDs are found to be in good agreement with available lattice-QCD calculations. Our study demonstrates that DNN-based methods provide a flexible and robust framework for extracting pion GPDs and probing the multidimensional internal structure of the pion, offering a promising avenue for future investigations of hadron tomography.

Moderate-to-Large-$x$ Gluon Helicity from $J/\psi$ Production at $\sqrt{s}=27~\mathrm{GeV}$

We present a feasibility study of the longitudinal double-spin asymmetry $A_{LL}$ in inclusive $J/\psi$ production in polarized proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}\approx 27~\mathrm{GeV}$ at the Spin Physics Detector (SPD) of the Nuclotron-based Ion Collider fAcility (NICA). At these moderate energies, $J/\psi$ production is dominated by gluon-gluon fusion, probing gluon momentum fractions $x\approx 0.1$-$0.2$ at central rapidity and highly asymmetric configurations at forward rapidity, where one parton can reach $x\approx 0.5$-$0.9$. This provides direct sensitivity to the poorly constrained moderate- to large-$x$ region of the gluon helicity distribution $\Delta g(x)$. We estimate $A_{LL}$ as a function of transverse momentum and rapidity using polarized parton distribution functions, focusing on the underlying partonic spin asymmetry. Nonperturbative long-distance effects are treated in a simplified manner and largely cancel in the asymmetry, enabling a direct assessment of gluon polarization sensitivity. We find asymmetries reaching $|A_{LL}|\approx 0.09$ at $p_T=3~\mathrm{GeV}$, with enhanced sensitivity at forward rapidity. The dominant theoretical uncertainty arises from polarized parton distribution functions. These results demonstrate that inclusive $J/\psi$ measurements at SPD/NICA provide a sensitive and complementary probe of gluon polarization at moderate and large $x$, extending constraints from RHIC into a kinematic regime not directly accessible to the EIC.

Extraction of Pion Unpolarized Quark Generalized Parton Distribution from Charge Form Factors

Based on a global fit to experimental measurements of the pion electromagnetic form factor and parton distribution functions (PDFs), we report a data-driven determination of the unpolarized quark generalized parton distributions (GPDs) for the case of pion in the zero-skewness limit ($\xi = 0$). The form factor is parameterized using a flexible functional form constrained by data and embedded into a GPD framework constructed from collinear PDFs and a profile function encoding transverse dynamics. This approach provides a unified description of the pion's electromagnetic structure and its spatial parton distributions. We present the extracted pion GPDs and their impact-parameter-space interpretations, offering new insights into the internal structure of the lightest QCD bound state and providing essential input for future electron-ion collider studies via the Sullivan process, as well as for the exclusive $\pi^+$ electroproduction at the 12~GeV Jefferson Lab program, pion-induced exclusive measurements at COMPASS, proposed pion-beam experiments at AMBER, and phenomenological and lattice investigations of the structure of the meson.

Internal structure of light mesons using the power law wave function

In this paper, we study the internal structure of light pseudoscalar mesons using spin improved power-law wave functions. We choose the pion and the kaon for our work. We use the standard quark-quark correlation functions to calculate the distribution amplitudes (DAs), parton distribution functions (PDFs), transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs), and generalized parton distribution functions (GPDs) at zero skewness and form factors. We present all the above distribution functions through the overlap of light-front wave functions (LFWFs). We use leading-order Efremov-Radyushkin-Brodsky-Lepage (ERBL) equations for DAs and next-to-leading-order (NLO) Dokshitzer-Gribov-Lipatov-Altarelli-Parisi (DGLAP) equations for PDFs to evolve them to higher scales. We find that only 41\% of the longitudinal momentum fraction is carried by the quark and antiquark of both pion and kaon at 16~GeV$^2$. The vector form factors for both the pion and the kaon are found to be in good agreement with experimental data. Similarly, the electromagnetic charge radii are found to be 0.668~fm and 0.704~fm for the pion and kaon, respectively.

Valence quark distribution of rho meson using light-front quark model

We investigate the partonic structure of the $\rho$ meson, the lightest spin-$1$ vector meson, within the light-front quark model (LFQM). To explore the sensitivity to model assumptions, we employ two distinct types of spin wave functions in the LFQM. Using light-front helicity wave functions, we derive explicit expressions for the leading-twist and subleading-twist quark parton distribution functions (PDFs), and evolve the leading-twist PDFs to higher scales with next-to-leading order (NLO) Dokshitzer--Gribov--Lipatov--Altarelli--Parisi (DGLAP) evolution. We have also calculated the Mellin moment from the evolved PDFs using a simple neural network frame and compared with available theoretical predictions. Furthermore, we compute the full set of nine leading-twist transverse-momentum-dependent distributions (TMDs) for the valence quark in the $\rho$ meson, including three tensor TMDs that arise from spin-$1$ tensor polarization of the hadron. Positivity constraints for the PDFs and TMDs are examined within this framework. Our findings highlight the crucial role of tensor polarization in shaping the three-dimensional partonic structure of vector mesons.

Understanding the Valence Quark Structure of the Pion through GTMDs

We investigate the internal structure of the pion using generalized transverse momentum-dependent parton distributions (GTMDs) within the light-cone quark model. By solving the quark-quark correlator, we derive the twist-$2$, $3$, and $4$ quark GTMDs in terms of light-front wave functions (LFWFs). Out of the $16$ possible GTMDs, $12$ are found to be nonzero. Furthermore, we extract the valence quark transverse momentum-dependent parton distributions (TMDs) and generalized parton distributions (GPDs) from their corresponding GTMDs. Additionally, we compute the valence quark electromagnetic form factors (FFs) and parton distribution functions (PDFs) up to twist-$4$. The elastic charge radius of the pion is determined to be $0.558$ fm. Our results exhibit a qualitative agreement with predictions from other theoretical model like Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model, Light-front holographic model, and spectator model at the leading twist. This study provides a comprehensive insight into the internal structure of the pion.

Understanding photon TMDs using light-front wave function

In this work, we try to understand the transverse structure of photon through transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) in quantum chromodynamics. We calculate all the possible time reversal photon TMDs using light-front wave functions. For this work, we have considered photon as a Fock-state of quark anti-quark pair. All the $9$ T-even TMDs have been presented in the overlap and explicit form of light-front wave functions using the helicity amplitudes. We observe that only $3$ TMDs are non-zero for the case of a real photon as compared to $8$ for virtual photon. We briefly discuss the unpolarized $f_1 (x,\textbf{k}_\perp)$, longitudinally polarized $g_{1L}(x,\textbf{k}^2_\perp)$, transversly polarized $h_1(x,\textbf{k}^2_\perp)$ and tensor polarized $f_{1LL}(x,\textbf{k}^2_\perp)$ TMDs for both real and virtual photon.

Photon Leading Twist Transverse Momentum Dependent Parton Distributions

In this work, we have calculated the photon leading-twist T-even transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs). For these calculations, we have treated photon as a state of quark anti-quark pair and represent the TMDs in explicit form of helicity amplitudes. We have presented all the T-even TMDs for the photon being massless (real) and massive (virtual). We have also compared our longitudinally and transversely polarized TMDs results for different photon masses. The collinear parton distribution functions (PDFs) have been predicted for both the real and virtual photon cases. The results for the unpolarized PDF of our calculations are in good agreement with other model predictions. In addition to this, we have also discussed the spin-spin correlations between the quark and photon.

Spectroscopy of excited quarkonium states in the light-front quark model

We have investigated the ground state ($1S$), radially excited states ($2S$) and ($3S$) along with the orbitally excited state ($1P$) for the heavy charmonia ($c \bar c$) and bottomonia ($b \bar b$) mesons in the light-front quark model (LFQM). The light-front wave functions have been successful in explaining various physical properties of meson states in the past, especially for the $1S$ and $2S$ states. However, studies regarding the radially excited state $3S$ and orbitally excited state $1P$ have hardly been pursued before. In this study, we take up these two excited states and investigate the electromagnetic form factors (EMFFs), charge radii, decay constants, parton distribution functions (PDFs) and the distribution amplitudes (DAs) for the quarkonia system. For the sake of completeness, we have also included the study of the ground and the first excited states of quarkonia mesons. We have also illustrated the 3D wave functions for the radially excited states in order to study their nodal structures.

TMD Relations: Insights from a Light-Front Quark-Diquark Model

In this work, we have established the relations between the T-even proton transverse momentum-dependent parton distributions (TMDs) at all twist levels up to twist-4 using the light-front quark diquark model (LFQDM). From the parameterization equations of TMDs, we have found that there are multiple ways by which a particular TMD can be expressed in terms of the helicities of the proton in the initial and final states. For the first time, we have presented a parameterization table that can be applied to the derivation and recognition of proton TMDs based on their helicity. We have constructed the linear and quadratic relationships of TMDs at the intra-twist and inter-twist levels within the same model. We have also looked at the inequality relations that TMDs follow. Additionally, to provide an easy access to the calculations, amplitude matrices have been expressed in the form of TMDs over all the possible helicities of the diquark.

T-even TMDs for the spin-0 pseudo-scalar mesons upto twist-4 using light-front formalism

We have investigated the pseudo-scalar meson structure in the form of transverse momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) in the light-front based holographic model and quark model. Starting from leading order, we have calculated all the time-reversal even TMDs for pion and kaon up to twist-$4$ in these models. We have shown the 3-dimensional structure as well as the 2-dimensional structure of these particles along with their average quark transverse momenta. The parton distribution functions (PDFs) of pseudo-scalar mesons have been compared with the results of other models. The sum rules, TMD transverse dependence, inverse moments and Gaussian transverse dependence ratio in these models have also been studied. Further, the transverse quark densities have also been analyzed in the momentum space plane for these particles. The higher twist kaon properties in light-front dynamics have been predicted for the first time in this work.

Sub-leading twist transverse momentum dependent parton distributions in the light-front quark-diquark model

In this study, the T-even sub-leading twist transverse momentum dependent distributions (TMDs) of proton in the light-front quark-diquark model (LFQDM) have been investigated. We have derived the overlap form of the light-front wave functions (LFWFs) for the sub-leading twist proton TMDs by detangling the un-integrated quark-quark correlator for the semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS). We have obtained the explicit expressions of TMDs for both the cases of the diquark being a scalar or a vector and analysed their relationships with leading twist TMDs within the same model. Average transverse momenta and average square transverse momenta for the TMDs have been tabulated and compared with the results from the light-front bag model and the light-front constituent quark model (LFCQM). In addition to this, we have also compared our results for the PDF $e(x)$ with the recent CLAS collaboration results.

T-odd quark-gluon-quark correlation function in the light-front quark-diquark model

We have scrutinized the transverse momentum dependent quark-gluon-quark correlation function. We have utilized the light-front quark-diquark model to study the time-reversal-odd interaction-dependent twist-3 gluon distributions which we have obtained from the disintegration of the transverse momentum dependent quark-gluon-quark correlator. Specifically, we have studied the behavior of $\tilde{e}_{L}$ and $\tilde{e}_{T}$ while considering our diquark to be an axial-vector.

Tomography of light mesons in light-cone quark model

We investigate the tomographical structure of pion and kaon in light cone quark model (LCQM). In particular, we study the parton distribution amplitude (PDA) of pion and kaon. We obtain the parton distribution function (PDF) and the generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of the pion and kaon. The valence quark PDA and PDF of pion, after QCD evolution, are found to be consistent with the data from the E791 and the E615 experiments at Fermilab, respectively. Further, we investigate the transverse momentum distributions (TMDs) of pion and kaon. We also discuss the unpolarized TMD evolution for pion and kaon in this model.

Transverse densities and generalized parton distributions of $\rho$ meson in light front quark model

We have investigated the transverse charge density for longitudinal and transversely polarized $\rho$ meson in light-front quark model (LFQM). Charge densities are obtained from the elastic form factors of the $\rho$ meson calculated in LFQM including the zero-mode contributions. We have computed the different helicity matrix elements of the $\rho$ meson. In addition to this, we have also presented the results for the generalized parton distributions (GPDs) and impact-parameter dependent parton distribution functions (ipdpdfs) of the $\rho$ meson.

Generalized Parton Distributions of Pion for Non-Zero Skewness in AdS/QCD

We study the generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of pion for non-zero skewness by considering the leading $| q \bar{q} \rangle$ Fock state component. Inspired from AdS/QCD light-front wave functions, we calculate the pion GPDs. By taking the Fourier transforms we obtain the results for impact-parameter dependent parton distribution functions (ipdpdf) and for GPDs in longitudinal boost-invariant space. We also calculate the charge density and gravitational form factor of the pion. The pion unpolarized transverse momentum distribution (TMD) have also been calculated. The results provide rich information on the internal structure of pion.

Gravitational form factors and angular momentum densities in light-front quark-diquark model

We investigate the gravitational form factors (GFFs) and the longitudinal momentum densities ($p^+$ densities) for proton in a light-front quark-diquark model. The light-front wave functions are constructed from the soft-wall AdS/QCD prediction. The contributions from both the scalar and the axial vector diquarks are considered here. The results are compared with the consequences of a parametrization of nucleon generalized parton distributions (GPDs) in the light of recent MRST measurements of parton distribution functions (PDFs) and a soft-wall AdS/QCD model. The spatial distribution of angular momentum for up and down quarks inside the nucleon has been presented. At the density level, we illustrate different definitions of angular momentum explicitly for an up and down quark in the light-front quark-diquark model inspired by AdS/QCD.
