On generalized Mittag-Leffler-type functions of two variables

We aim to study Mittag-Leffler type functions of two variables ${{D}_{1}}\left( x,y \right),...,{{D}_{5}}\left( x,y \right)$ by analogy with the Appell hypergeometric functions of two variables. Moreover, we targeted functions ${{E}_{1}}\left( x,y \right),$ $...,{{E}_{10}}\left( x,y \right)$ as limiting cases of the functions ${{D}_{1}}\left( x,y \right),$ $...,{{D}_{5}}\left( x,y \right)$ and studied certain properties, as well. Following Horn's method, we determine all possible cases of the convergence region of the function ${{D}_{1}}\left( x,y \right).$ Further, for a generalized hypergeometric function, ${{D}_{1}}\left( x,y \right)$ (two variable Mittag-Leffler-type function) integral representations of the Euler type have been proved. One-dimensional and two-dimensional Laplace transforms of the function are also defined. We have constructed a system of partial differential equations which is linked with the function ${{D}_{1}}\left( x,y \right)$.

The Role of Quarantine and Isolation in Controlling COVID-19 Hospitalization in Oman

In this paper, we build a mathematical model for the dynamics of COVID-19 to assess the impact of placing healthy individuals in quarantine and isolating infected ones on the number of hospitalization and intensive care unit cases. The proposed model is fully analyzed in order to prove the positivity of solutions, to study the local and global stability of the disease-free equilibria and to drive the basic and control reproduction numbers of the model. Oman COVID-19 data is used to calibrate the model and estimate the parameters. In particular, the published data for the year 2020 is used, when two waves of the disease hit the country. Moreover, this period of time is chosen when no vaccine had been introduced, but only the non-pharmaceutical intervention (NPI) strategies were the only effective methods to control the spread and, consequently, control the hospitalization cases to avoid pressuring the health system. Based on the estimated parameters, the reproduction number and contribution of different transmission routes are approximated numerically. Sensitivity analysis is performed to identify the significant parameters in spreading the disease. Numerical simulation is carried out to demonstrate the effects of quarantine and isolation on the number of hospitalized cases.

The Impact of Mobility between Rural Areas and Forests on the Spread of Zika

A mathematical model of Zika virus transmission incorporating human movement between rural areas and nearby forests is presented to investigate the role of human movement in the spread of Zika virus infections in human and mosquito populations. Proportions of both susceptible and infected humans living in rural areas are assumed to move to nearby forest areas. Direct, indirect and vertical transmission routes are incorporated for all populations. Mathematical analysis of the proposed model has been presented. The analysis starts with normalizing the proposed model. Positivity and boundedness of solutions to the normalized model have been then addressed. The basic reproduction number has been calculated using the next generation matrix method and its relation to the three routes of disease transmission has been presented. The sensitivity analysis of the basic reproduction number to all model parameters has been investigated. The analysis also includes existence and stability of disease free and endemic equilibrium points. Bifurcation analysis has been also carried out. Finally, numerical solutions to the normalized model have been obtained to confirm the theoretical results and to demonstrate the impact of human movement in the disease transmission in human and mosquito populations.

Inverse source problems for degenerate time-fractional PDE

In this paper, we investigate two inverse source problems for degenerate time-fractional partial differential equation in rectangular domains. The first problem involves a space-degenerate partial differential equation and the second one involves a time-degenerate partial differential equation. Solutions to both problem are expressed in series expansions. For the first problem, we obtained solutions in the form of Fourier-Legendre series. Convergence and uniqueness of solutions have been discussed. Solutions to the second problem are expressed in the form of Fourier-Sine series and they involve a generalized Mittag- Leffler type function. Moreover, we have established a new estimate for this generalized Mittag-Leffler type function. The obtained results are illustrated by providing example solutions using certain given data at the initial and final time.

On a class of inverse problems for a heat equation with involution perturbation

A class of inverse problems for a heat equation with involution perturbation is considered using four different boundary conditions, namely, Dirichlet, Neumann, periodic and anti-periodic boundary conditions. Proved theorems on existence and uniqueness of solutions to these problems are presented. Solutions are obtained in the form of series expansion using a set of appropriate orthogonal basis for each problem. Convergence of the obtained solutions is also discussed.

Initial boundary value problems for a fractional differential equation with hyper-Bessel operator

Direct and inverse source problems of a fractional diffusion equation with regularized Caputo-like counterpart hyper-Bessel operator are considered. Solutions to these problems are constructed based on appropriate eigenfunction expansion and results on existence and uniqueness are established. To solve the resultant equations, a solution to a non-homogeneous fractional differential equation with regularized Caputo-like counterpart hyper-Bessel operator is also presented.

Many Faces of Boussinesq Approximations

The \emph{equations of Boussinesq approximation} (EBA) for an incompressible and inhomogeneous in density fluid are analyzed from a viewpoint of the asymptotic theory. A systematic scaling shows that there is an infinite number of related asymptotic models. We have divided them into three classes: `poor', `reasonable' and `good' Boussinesq approximations. Each model can be characterized by two parameters $q$ and $k$, where $q =1, 2, 3, \dots$ and $k=0, \pm 1, \pm 2,\dots$. Parameter $q$ is related to the `quality' of approximation, while $k$ gives us an infinite set of possible scales of velocity, time, viscosity, \emph{etc.} Increasing $q$ improves the quality of a model, but narrows the limits of its applicability. Parameter $k$ allows us to vary the scales of time, velocity and viscosity and gives us the possibility to consider any initial and boundary conditions. In general, we discover and classify a rich variety of possibilities and restrictions, which are hidden behind the routine use of the Boussinesq approximation. The paper is devoted to the multiplicity of scalings and related restrictions. We do not study any particular solutions and particular failures of EBA.

Inverse Problems of a Fractional Differential Equation with Bessel Operator

Inverse initial and inverse source problems of a time-fractional differential equation with Bessel operator are considered. Results on existence and uniqueness of solutions to these problems are presented. The solution method is based on series expansions using a set of Bessel functions of order zero. Convergence of the obtained series solutions is also discussed

On a differential equation with Caputo-Fabrizio fractional derivative of order $1<β\leq 2$ and application to mass-spring-damper system

In this work, we investigate a linear differential equation involving Caputo-Fabrizio fractional derivative of order $1<β\leq 2$. Under some assumptions the considered equation is reduced to an integer order differential equation and solutions for different cases are obtained in explicit forms. We also prove a uniqueness of a solution of an initial value problem with a nonlinear differential equation containing the Caputo-Fabrizio derivative. Application of our result to the mass-spring-damper motion is also presented.

Boundary-value problem for fractional heat equation involving Caputo-Fabrizio derivative

In this work, we consider a number of boundary-value problems for time-fractional heat equation with the recently introduced Caputo-Fabrizio derivative. Using the method of separation of variables, we prove a unique solvability of the stated problems. Moreover, we have found an explicit solution to certain initial value problem for Caputo-Fabrizio fractional order differential equation by reducing the problem to a Volterra integral equation. Different forms of solution were presented depending on the values of the parameter appeared in the problem.

Inverse source non-local problem for mixed type equation with Caputo fractional differential operator

In the present work, we discuss a unique solvability of an inverse-source problem with integral transmitting condition for time-fractional mixed type equation in a rectangular domain, where the unknown source term depends on space variable only. The method of solution based on a series expansion using bi-orthogonal basis of space corresponding to a nonself-adjoint boundary value problem. Under certain regularity conditions on the given data, we prove the uniqueness and existence of the solution for the given problem. Influence of transmitting condition on the solvability of the problem is shown as well. Precisely, two different cases were considered; a case of full integral form ($0<γ<1$) and a special case ($γ=1$) of transmitting condition. In order to simplify the bulky expressions appearing in the proof of the main result, we have established a new property of the recently introduced Mittag-Leffler type function of two variables (see Lemma 2.1).
