Prediction certification cannot replace explanation certification: a competence envelope for trustworthy AI under compound stress

Artificial intelligence systems increasingly make consequential judgments - which patient is deteriorating, which building is safe to enter, whether an image is authentic and are trusted on the strength of how accurately and confidently they predict. The safeguards that certify them are correspondingly prediction-based: accuracy, calibration and conformal coverage all measure how well a model performs. Whether such checks are sufficient to establish model trustworthiness has remained unclear. Here we prove that they cannot. We establish a separation theorem showing that a reliable model and a compromised one can be identical under every prediction-side certificate, including accuracy, calibration and coverage, yet differ arbitrarily in explanation fidelity and deployment behaviour. Detecting this failure requires access to the model's decision mechanism in addition to its predictions. We introduce the competence envelope as an operational framework that combines prediction and explanation certification into a single deployable criterion. Across diverse datasets and model classes, the proposed framework reveals failure modes that prediction-side certification alone does not capture. Certification against failures that are invisible in prediction behaviour therefore requires evidence about the model's decision mechanism as well as its outputs.

Machine Learning Classification of Cryopathy Syndromes: A Comprehensive Comparative Study

Cryopathy syndromes are difficult to classify because laboratory patterns often overlap across diagnostic categories, while some diagnoses are rare. This makes routine interpretation of cryoglobulin-related tests challenging and increases dependence on expert judgment. The aim of this study was to develop and compare machine learning approaches for automated classification of cryopathy syndromes from laboratory data and to identify a practical strategy for clinical decision support. Methods: We analysed laboratory records from 2,686 patients assigned to 14 diagnostic categories. The dataset included demographic variables, cryoglobulin measurements, precipitation tests, and hemagglutinin and hemolysin titers. Data preprocessing included cleaning, encoding, imputation, normalization, and construction of clinically informed interaction features. We evaluated 12 modelling strategies, including Random Forest, Gradient Boosted Trees, Multi-Layer Perceptron, soft-voting ensembles, class balancing with Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique, hierarchical classification, period-aware models, targeted binary classifiers, and probability calibration. Performance was assessed using stratified train-test evaluation and stratified 5-fold cross-validation. The main metrics were macro-averaged F1 score, accuracy, Top-3 accuracy, and expected calibration error. The overall task proved difficult because of marked class imbalance and clinical overlap between diagnoses. The best multiclass performance was achieved by a soft-voting ensemble of Random Forest and Gradient Boosted Trees. Cross-validation confirmed stable performance for the balanced Random Forest model. Tree-based methods consistently outperformed the neural network model. Feature engineering improved discrimination, and the most informative predictors were derived cryoglobulin-based interaction features.

Application of Artificial Intelligence for Fraudulent Banking Operations Recognition

This study considers the task of applying artificial intelligence to recognize bank fraud. In recent years, due to the COVID19 pandemic, bank fraud has become even more common due to the massive transition of many operations to online platforms and the creation of many charitable funds that criminals can use to deceive users. The present work focuses on machine learning algorithms as a tool well suited for analyzing and recognizing online banking transactions. The study`s scientific novelty is the development of machine learning models for identifying fraudulent banking transactions and techniques for preprocessing bank data for further comparison and selection of the best results. This paper also details various methods for improving detection accuracy, i.e., handling highly imbalanced datasets, feature transformation, and feature engineering. The proposed model, which is based on an artificial neural network, effectively improves the accuracy of fraudulent transaction detection. The results of the different algorithms are visualized, and the logistic regression algorithm performs the best, with an output AUC value of approximately 0,946. The stacked generalization shows a better AUC of 0.954. The recognition of banking fraud using artificial intelligence algorithms is a topical issue in our digital society.

Rapid post-disaster infrastructure damage characterisation enabled by remote sensing and deep learning technologies -- a tiered approach

Critical infrastructure, such as transport networks and bridges, are systematically targeted during wars and suffer damage during extensive natural disasters because it is vital for enabling connectivity and transportation of people and goods, and hence, underpins national and international economic growth. Mass destruction of transport assets, in conjunction with minimal or no accessibility in the wake of natural and anthropogenic disasters, prevents us from delivering rapid recovery and adaptation. As a result, systemic operability is drastically reduced, leading to low levels of resilience. Thus, there is a need for rapid assessment of its condition to allow for informed decision-making for restoration prioritisation. A solution to this challenge is to use technology that enables stand-off observations. Nevertheless, no methods exist for automated characterisation of damage at multiple scales, i.e. regional (e.g., network), asset (e.g., bridges), and structural (e.g., road pavement) scales. We propose a methodology based on an integrated, multi-scale tiered approach to fill this capability gap. In doing so, we demonstrate how automated damage characterisation can be enabled by fit-for-purpose digital technologies. Next, the methodology is applied and validated to a case study in Ukraine that includes 17 bridges, damaged by human targeted interventions. From regional to component scale, we deploy technology to integrate assessments using Sentinel-1 SAR images, crowdsourced information, and high-resolution images for deep learning to facilitate automatic damage detection and characterisation. For the first time, the interferometric coherence difference and semantic segmentation of images were deployed in a tiered multi-scale approach to improve the reliability of damage characterisations at different scales.

The method of automatic summarization from different sources

In this article is analyzed technology of automatic text abstracting and annotation. The role of annotation in automatic search and classification for different scientific articles is described. The algorithm of summarization of natural language documents using the concept of importance coefficients is developed. Such concept allows considering the peculiarity of subject areas and topics that could be found in different kinds of documents. Method for generating abstracts of single document based on frequency analysis is developed. The recognition elements for unstructured text analysis are given. The method of pre-processing analysis of several documents is developed. This technique simultaneously considers both statistical approaches to abstracting and the importance of terms in a particular subject domain. The quality of generated abstract is evaluated. For the developed system there was conducted experts evaluation. It was held only for texts in Ukrainian. The developed system concluding essay has higher aggregate score on all criteria. The summarization system architecture is building. To build an information system model there is used CASE-tool AllFusion ERwin Data Modeler. The database scheme for information saving was built. The system is designed to work primarily with Ukrainian texts, which gives a significant advantage, since most modern systems still oriented to English texts

Dataspace architecture and manage its components class projection

Big Data technology is described. Big data is a popular term used to describe the exponential growth and availability of data, both structured and unstructured. There is constructed dataspace architecture. Dataspace has focused solely - and passionately - on providing unparalleled expertise in business intelligence and data warehousing strategy and implementation. Dataspaces are an abstraction in data management that aims to overcome some of the problems encountered in data integration system. In our case it is block vector for heterogeneous data representation. Traditionally, data integration and data exchange systems have aimed to offer many of the purported services of dataspace systems. Dataspaces can be viewed as a next step in the evolution of data integration architectures, but are distinct from current data integration systems in the following way. Data integration systems require semantic integration before any services can be provided. Hence, although there is not a single schema to which all the data conforms and the data resides in a multitude of host systems, the data integration system knows the precise relationships between the terms used in each schema. As a result, significant up-front effort is required in order to set up a data integration system. For realization of data integration from different sources we used SQL Server Integration Services, SSIS. For developing the portal as an architectural pattern there is used pattern Model-View-Controller (MVC). There is specifics debug operation data space as a complex system. The query translator in Backus/Naur Form is give.
