On the classification of links up to finite type

We use an action, of 2l-component string links on l-component string links, defined by the first author and Xiao-Song Lin, to lift the indeterminacy of finite type link invariants. The set of links up to this new indeterminacy is in bijection with the orbit space of the restriction of this action to the stabilizer of the identity. Structure theorems for the sets of links up to C_n-equivalence and Self-C_n-equivalence are also given.

The Universal Perturbative Quantum 3-manifold Invariant, Rozansky-Witten Invariants, and the Generalized Casson Invariant

Let Z^{LMO} be the 3-manifold invariant of [LMO]. It is shown that Z^{LMO}(M)=1, if the first Betti number of M, b_{1}(M), is greater than 3. If b_{1}(M)=3, then Z^{LMO}(M) is completely determined by the cohomology ring of M. A relation of Z^{LMO} with the Rozansky-Witten invariants Z_{X}^{RW}[M] is established at a physical level of rigour. We show that Z_{X}^{RW}[M] satisfies appropriate connected sum properties suggesting that the generalized Casson invariant ought to be computable from the LMO invariant.

The Casson-Walker-Lescop Invariant as a Quantum 3-manifold Invariant

We give a direct computational proof that the degree 1 part of the Le-Murakami-Ohtsuki invariant of a closed oriented 3-manifold M is determined by the Casson-Walker-Lescop invariant. Moreover, if the first Betti number of M is equal to 2, the Le-Murakami-Ohtsuki invariant is determined by the Lescop generalization of the Casson-Walker invariant.
