On Yoccoz Return Functions

We study the dynamics of complex polynomials. We obtain results on Poincare return maps defined on certain neighborhoods of a point with bounded orbit under a polynomial. We introduce a generalization of the Yoccoz tau-function, the Yoccoz return function, which codes the returns of a critical point with bounded orbit of any complex polynomial with a disconnect Julia set. We give necessary conditions on Yoccoz return functions, which allow for the recursive definition of an abstract tau-function. These conditions are also sufficient for polynomials that have a disconnected Julia set and exactly one critical point with bounded orbit.

Return times of polynomials as meta-Fibonacci numbers

We consider generalized closest return times of a complex polynomial of degree at least two. Most previous studies on this subject have focused on the properties of polynomials with particular return times, especially the Fibonacci numbers. We study the general form of these closest return times. The main result of this paper is that these closest return times are meta-Fibonacci numbers. This result applies to the return times of a principal nest of a polynomial. Furthermore, we show that an analogous result holds in a tree with dynamics that is associated with a polynomial.

Brownian motion, random walks on trees, and harmonic measure on polynomial Julia sets

We consider the harmonic measure on a disconnected polynomial Julia set in terms of Brownian motion. We show that the harmonic measure of any connected component of such a Julia set is zero. Associated to the polynomial is a combinatorial model, the tree with dynamics. We define a measure on the tree, which is a combinatorial version on harmonic measure. We show that this measure is isomorphic to the harmonic measure on the Julia set. The measure induces a random walk on the tree, which is isomorphic to Brownian motion in the plane.
