Configuration entropy description of charmonium dissociation under the influence of magnetic fields

Heavy ion collisions, produced in particle accelerators, lead to the formation of a new state of matter, known as the quark gluon plasma. It is not possible to observe directly the plasma, where quarks and gluons are not confined into hadrons. All the available information comes from the particles that reach the detectors after the strongly interacting matter hadronizes. Among those particles, one that plays an important role is the charmonium J/$ψ$ heavy meson, made of a $ c \bar c$ quark anti-quark pair. The fraction of such particles produced in a heavy ion collision is related to the dissociation level caused by the plasma. On the other hand, the dissociation of $J/Ψ$ in the plasma is influenced by the temperature and the density of the medium and also by the presence of magnetic fields, that are produced in non central collisions. A very interesting tool to study stability of physical systems is the configuration entropy (CE). In recent years many examples in various kinds of physical systems appeared in the literature, where an increase in the CE is associated with an increase in the instability of the system. In this article we calculate the CE for charmonium quasistates inside a plasma with a magnetic field background, in order to investigate how the instability, corresponding in this case to the dissociation in the thermal medium, is translated into the dependence of the CE on the field.

Configuration Entropy for Quarkonium in a Finite Density Plasma

In the recent years many examples appeared in the literature where the configuration entropy (CE), introduced by Gleiser and Stamatopoulos, plays the role of an indicator of stability of physical systems. It was observed that, comparing states of the same system, the lower is the value of the CE, the more stable is the state. In this work we investigate the behaviour of the differential configuration entropy (DCE) , that is appropriate for systems with continuous degrees of freedom, in a new context. We consider quasi-states of quarkonium (a vector meson made of a heavy quark anti-quark pair) inside a plasma at finite density. It is known that the density increases the dissociation effect for quasi-particles inside a plasma. So, increasing the density of a thermal medium corresponds to reducing the stability of the quasi-particles. In order to investigate how this situation is translated in the Configutation Entropy context, we use a recently developed holographic AdS/QCD model for heavy vector mesons. The quasi-normal modes describing the quasi-states are obtained and the corresponding DCE is calculated. We find, for bottomonium and charmonium $1 S$ quasi-states, that the DCE increases with the quark density, or quark chemical potential, of the medium. This result shows that the DCE works again as an indicator of stability, represented in this case by the dissociation effect associated with the density.

Quasi normal modes for Heavy Vector Mesons in a Finite Density Plasma

There are strong indications that ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions, produced in accelarators, lead to the formation of a new state of matter: the quark gluon plasma (QGP). This deconfined QCD matter is expected to exist just for very short times after the collision. All the information one can get about the plasma is obtained from the particles that reach the detectors. Among them, heavy vector mesons are particularly important. The abundance of $ c {\bar c}$ and $b {\bar b}$ states produced in a heavy ion collision is a source of information about the plasma. In contrast to the light mesons, that completely dissociate when the plasma is formed, heavy mesons presumably undergo a partial thermal dissociation. The dissociation degree depends on the temperature and also on the presence of magnetic fields and on the density (chemical potential). So, in order to get information about the plasma out of the quarkonium abundance data, one needs to resort to models that provide the dependence of the dissociation degree on these factors. Holographic phenomenological models provide a nice description for charmonium and bottomonium quasi-states in a plasma. In particular, quasi-normal modes associated with quarkonia states have been studied recently for a plasma with magnetic fields. Here we extend this analysis of quasinormal models to the case when charmonium and bottomonium are inside a plasma with finite density. The complex frequencies obtained are then compared with a Breit Wigner approximation for the peaks of the corresponding thermal spectral functions, in order to investigate the quantitative agreement of the different descriptions of quarkonium quasi-states.

Information versus stability in an anti-de Sitter black hole

Information entropies associated with the energy density in position and momentum spaces are build for an anti-de Sitter (AdS) black hole. These quantities, that satisfy an entropic uncertainty relation, vary with the temperature. The higher is the black hole temperature, the greater/smaller is the information encoded respectively in the position/momentum distributions of energy. On the other hand, as it is well know, AdS black holes are subject to the Hawking Page phase transition. The amplitude for dominance of the black hole phase over the thermal AdS phase increases with the temperature. So, as the system becomes more stable, there is a change in the way that information is stored. In particular: information stored in the spatial energy density increases while information stored in the energy density in momentum space decreases.

Quasinormal modes for quarkonium in a plasma with magnetic fields

Heavy vector mesons detected after a heavy ion collision are important sources of information about the quark gluon plasma. The fraction of such particles that survive the plasma phase and reach the detectors is related to the dissociation degree inside the thermal medium. A consistent picture for the thermal behavior of charmonium and bottomonium quasi-states in a thermal medium was obtained recently using a holographic bottom up model. This model captures the heavy flavour spectroscopy of masses and decay constants in the vacuum (zero temperature) and is consistently extended to finite temperature. The spectral functions that emerge provide a description of the dissociation process in terms of the broadening of the quasi-state peaks with temperature. The holographic approach makes it possible to determine also the quasinormal modes. They are gravity solutions representing the quasi-particle states in the thermal medium, with complex frequencies related to the thermal mass and width. The quasinormal modes for charmonium and bottomonium have been studied very recently and a consistent description of the dissociation process was found. An additional factor can affect the dissociation process: strong magnetic fields are expected to be present when the plasma is formed by non-central heavy ion collisions. So, it is important to understand the effect of such fields on the heavy meson dissociation scenario. Here we extend the holographic determination of quasinormal modes for the case when magnetic fields are present. The real and imaginary parts of the mode frequencies are determined for different values of background $e B$ field. The associated dispersion relations for heavy quarks moving inside the plasma are also investigated for both $ c \bar c$ and $ b \bar b \, $.

Quasinormal modes and dispersion relations for quarkonium in a plasma

Recent investigations show that the thermal spectral function of heavy $ {b \bar b } $ and $ {c \bar c} $ vector mesons can be described using holography. These studies consider a bottom up model that captures the heavy flavour spectroscopy of masses and decay constants in the vacuum and is consistently extended to finite temperature. The corresponding spectral functions provide a picture of the dissociation process in terms of the decrease of the quasi-state peaks with temperature. Another related tool that provides important information about the thermal behaviour is the analysis of the quasinormal modes. They are field solutions in a curved background assumed to represent, in gauge/gravity duality, quasi-particle states in a thermal medium. The associated complex frequencies are related to the thermal mass and width. We present here the calculation of quasinormal modes for charmonium and bottomonium using the holographic approach. The temperature dependence of mass and thermal width are investigated. Solutions corresponding to heavy mesons moving into the plasma are also studied. They provide the dependence of the real and imaginary parts of the frequency with the quasi-particle momenta, the so called dispersion relations.

Thermal dissociation of heavy mesons and configurational entropy

We study the dissociation of heavy vector mesons in a thermal medium from the point of view of the configurational entropy. Bottomonium and charmonium vector mesons in a plasma are represented using a holographic AdS/QCD model. The quasinormal modes, describing the quasiparticle states, are determined for a representative range of temperature and the corresponding CE is then computed. The main result indicates that the CE is an important contrivance to investigate the stability of the heavy mesons against dissociation in the thermal medium.

Heavy meson dissociation in a plasma with magnetic fields

The fraction of heavy vector mesons detected after a heavy ion collision provides information about the possible formation of a plasma state. An interesting framework for estimating the degree of dissociation of heavy mesons in a plasma is the holographic approach. It has been recently shown that a consistent picture for the thermal behavior of charmonium and bottomonium states in a thermal medium emerges from holographic bottom up models. A crucial ingredient in this new approach is the appropriate description of decay constants, since they are related to the heights of the quasiparticle peaks of the finite temperature spectral function. Here we extend this new holographic model in order to study the effect of magnetic fields on the thermal spectrum of heavy mesons. The motivation is that very large magnetic fields are present in non central heavy ion collisions and this could imply a change in the dissociation scenario. The thermal spectra of $ c \bar c$ and $ b \bar b \, $ S wave states is obtained for different temperatures and different values of the magnetic $e B$ field.

AdS/QCD duality and the quarkonia holographic information entropy

Bottomonium and charmonium, representing quarkonia states, are scrutinized under the point of view of the information theory, in the AdS/QCD holographic setup. A logarithmic measure of information, comprised by the configurational entropy, is here employed to quantitatively study quarkonia radially excited S-wave states. The configurational entropy provides data regarding the relative dominance and the abundance of the bottomonium and charmonium states, whose underlying information is more compressed, in the Shannon's theory meaning. The derived configurational entropy, therefore, identifies the lower phenomenological prevalence of higher S-wave resonances and higher masses quarkonia in Nature.

Holographic picture of heavy vector mesons in a finite density plasma

We present the results of a holographic model for heavy vector mesons inside a plasma at finite temperature and density. The spectral function shows a nice description of the dissociation of the mesons in the medium, corresponding to the decrease in the height of the peaks as the temperature and (or) the density increase. We consider the case of bottomonium states at finite temperature and also the case of charmonium dissociation at zero temperature but finite chemical potential.

Holographic model for charmonium dissociation

We present a holographic bottom up model for the thermal behavior of $ c \bar c$ vector mesons in a finite temperature and density plasma. There is a clear physical interpretation for the three imput energy parameters of the model. Two of them are related to the mass spectrum of the heavy meson. Namely the quark mass and the string tension of the quark anti-quark interaction. The third parameter is a large energy scale associated with the non-hadronic meson decay. In such a process the heavy meson is transformed into a much lighter state by electroweak processes. The corresponding transition amplitude is assumed to depend on the enegy scale associated with this large mass variation. With this three parameter model one can fit the masses and decay constants of $ J / Ψ$ and three radial excitations with an rms error of 20.7 %. Using the geometry of a charged black hole, one finds the spectral function for charmonium states inside a plasma at finite temperature and density. The charmonium dissociation in the medium is represented by the decrease in the height of the spectral function peaks.

Bottomonium dissociation in a finite density plasma

We present a holographic description of the thermal behavior of $ b \bar b$ heavy vector mesons inside a plasma at finite temperature and density. The meson dissociation in the medium is represented by the decrease in the height of the spectral function peaks. In order to find a description for the evolution of the quasi-states with temperature and chemical potential it is crucial to use a model that is consistent with the decay constant behavior. The reason is that the height of a spectral function peak is related to the value of the zero temperature decay constant of the corresponding particle. AdS/QCD holographic models are in general not consistent with the observation that decay constants of heavy vector mesons decrease with radial excitation level. However, it was recently shown that using a soft wall background and calculating the correlation functions at a finite position of anti-de Sitter space, associated with an ultraviolet energy scale, it is possible to describe the observed behavior. Here we extend this proposal to the case of finite temperature $T $ and chemical potential $μ$. A clear picture of the dissociation of bottomonium states as a function of $ μ$ and $T$ emerges from the spectral function. The energy scales where the change in chemical potential leads to changes in the thermal properties of the mesons is consistent with QCD expectations.

Thermal spectrum of pseudo-scalar glueballs and Debye screening mass from holography

The finite temperature spectrum of pseudo-scalar glueballs in a plasma is studied using a holographic model. The $ 0^{-+}$ glueball is represented by a pseudo-scalar (axion) field living in a five dimensional geometry that comes from a solution of Einstein equations for gravity coupled with a dilaton scalar field. The spectral function obtained from the model shows a clear peak corresponding to the quasi-particle ground state. Analysing the variation of the position of the peak with temperature, we describe the thermal behavior of the Debye screening mass of the plasma. As a check of consistency, the zero temperature limit of the model is also investigated. The glueball masses obtained are consistent with previous lattice results.

Configurational entropy of anti-de Sitter black holes

Recent studies indicate that the configurational entropy is an useful tool to investigate the stability and (or) the relative dominance of states for diverse physical systems. Recent examples comprise the connection between the variation of this quantity and the relative fraction of light mesons and glueballs observed in hadronic processes. Here we develop a technique for defining a configurational entropy for an AdS-Schwarzschild black hole. The achieved result corroborates consistency with the Hawking-Page phase transition. Namely, the dominance of the black hole configurational entropy will be shown to increase with the temperature. In order to verify the consistency of the new procedure developed here, we also consider the case of black holes in flat space-time. For such a black hole, it is known that evaporation leads to instability. The configurational entropy obtained for the flat space case is thoroughly consistent with the physical expectation. In fact, we show that the smaller the black holes, the more unstable they are. So, the configurational entropy furnishes a reliable measure for stability of black holes.

Decay constants in soft wall AdS/QCD revisited

Phenomenological AdS/QCD models, like hard wall and soft wall, provide hadronic mass spectra in reasonable consistency with experimental and (or) lattice results. These simple models are inspired in the AdS/CFT correspondence and assume that gauge/ gravity duality holds in a scenario where conformal invariance is broken through the introduction of an energy scale. Another important property of hadrons: the decay constant, can also be obtained from these models. However, a consistent formulation of an AdS/QCD model that reproduces the observed behavior of decay constants of vector meson excited states is still lacking. In particular: for radially excited states of heavy vector mesons, the experimental data lead to decay constants that decrease with the radial excitation level. We show here that a modified framework of soft wall AdS/QCD involving an additional dimensionfull parameter, associated with an ultraviolet energy scale, provides decay constants decreasing with radial excitation level. In this version of the soft wall model the two point function of gauge theory operators is calculated at a finite position of the anti-de Sitter space radial coordinate.

Thermal width of heavy quarkonia from an AdS/QCD model

We estimate the thermal width of a heavy quark anti-quark pair inside a strongly coupled plasma using a holographic AdS/QCD model. The imaginary part of the quark potential that produces the thermal width appears in the gravity dual from quantum fluctuations of the string world sheet in the vicinity of the horizon. The results, obtained using a soft wall background that involves an infrared mass scale, are consistent with previous analisys where the mass scale was introduced by averaging over quark anti-quark states.

Holographic model for heavy vector meson masses

The experimentally observed spectra of heavy vector meson radial excitations show a dependence on two different energy parameters. One is associated with the quark mass and the other with the binding energy levels of the quark anti-quark pair. The first is present in the large mass of the first state while the other corresponds to the small mass splittings between radial excitations. In this article we show how to reproduce such a behavior with reasonable precision using a holographic model. In the dual picture, the large energy scale shows up from a bulk mass and the small scale comes from the position of anti-de Sitter (AdS) space where field correlators are calculated. The model determines the masses of four observed S-wave states of charmonium and six S-wave states of bottomonium with , 6.1 % rms error. In consistency with the physical picture, the large energy parameter is flavor dependent, while the small parameter, associated with quark anti-quark interaction is the same for charmonium and bottomonium states.

Conditional entropy of glueball states

The conditional entropy of glueball states is calculated using a holographic description. Glueball states are represented by a supergravity dual picture, consisting of a 5-dimensional graviton-dilaton action of a dynamical holographic AdS/QCD model. The conditional entropy is studied as a function of the glueball spin and of the mass, providing information about the stability of the glueball states.
