Temporal Faraday effect enabled by Floquet-induced chirality

The Faraday effect is a hallmark of nonreciprocal light-matter interactions and traditionally requires magnetic bias or intrinsically chiral media. Here we introduce a temporal chiral metamaterial in which an effective chiral response is generated entirely by Floquet modulation, without magnetic fields or structurally chiral constituents. The medium is realized by periodically rotating the principal axes of the permittivity and permeability tensors in time. Using a nonlocal temporal effective medium theory derived from Hamiltonian homogenization, we show that the resulting chiral parameter is an odd function of the wavevector, giving rise to intrinsic nonreciprocity despite Onsager-symmetric constitutive relations. This Floquet-induced chirality produces a temporal Faraday effect, in which the polarization plane of a linearly polarized wave rotates continuously in time. The direction and magnitude of the rotation are programmable through the modulation sequence and remain invariant under both spatial and temporal reversal. Our work establishes Floquet-induced chirality as a fundamentally new mechanism for nonreciprocal light control and opens a route to reconfigurable polarization manipulation in time-modulated photonic systems.

A novel multi-exposure-to-multi-mediator mediation model for imaging genetic study of brain disorders

Common psychiatric and brain disorders are highly heritable and affected by a number of genetic risk factors, yet the mechanism by which these genetic factors contribute to the disorders through alterations in brain structure and function remain poorly understood. Contemporary imaging genetic studies integrate genetic and neuroimaging data to investigate how genetic variation contributes to brain disorders via intermediate neuroimaging endophenotypes. However, the large number of potential exposures (genes) and mediators (neuroimaging features) pose new challenges to the traditional mediation analysis. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-exposure-to-multi-mediator mediation model that integrates genetic, neuroimaging and phenotypic data to investigate the "geneneuroimaging-brain disorder" mediation pathway. Our method jointly reduces the dimensions of exposures and mediators into low-dimensional aggregators where the mediation effect is maximized. We further introduce sparsity into the loadings to improve the interpretability. To target the bi-convex optimization problem, we implement an efficient alternating direction method of multipliers algorithm with block coordinate updates. We provide theoretical guarantees for the convergence of our algorithm and establish the asymptotic properties of the resulting estimators. Through extensive simulations, we demonstrate that our method outperforms other competing methods in recovering true loadings and true mediation proportions across a wide range of signal strengths, noise levels, and correlation structures. We further illustrate the utility of the method through a mediation analysis that integrates genetic, brain functional connectivity and smoking behavior data from UK Biobank, and identifies critical genes that impact nicotine dependence via changing the functional connectivity in specific brain regions.

Temporal Transfer Matrix Method for Exceptional-Point Media via Canonical Basis Expansion

We present a generalized temporal transfer matrix method (TTMM) for time-varying media that accurately captures wave dynamics in media operating at exceptional points (EPs). The method expands wave fields in the canonical basis of each temporal layer and derives the complete time evolution of all basis vectors. Temporal matching and phase-delay matrices are constructed from the generalized modal matrices and their corresponding eigenvalues. Additionally, an amplitude-boosting matrix is introduced to account for the power-law amplification of field amplitudes associated with EP dynamics. This matrix depends only on the order of the EP and naturally reduces to the identity matrix in its absence. The proposed TTMM is validated through two representative EP media, demonstrating its accuracy and broad applicability.

Temporal Scattering at Irremovable Exceptional Points in Lossless Drude Media

We investigate temporal scattering in lossless Drude media and reveal an overlooked role of the zero-frequency flat band associated with static polarization charge. This flat band forms an exceptional line spanning all wavenumbers and can be directly excited during temporal scattering at photonic time interfaces, generating non-propagating static fields alongside the usual reflected and transmitted waves. Eigenvector coalescence at the corresponding exceptional points leads to two distinctive features absent in previously studied systems: a static mode whose amplitude increases linearly with time, and an additional static component arising from the system's generalized eigenvector. Remarkably, these effects occur without violating total energy conservation, underscoring the Hermitian nature of the dynamics. Our findings present a new physical picture of temporal scattering, sharply distinct from that in dispersionless and Lorentz-dispersive media.

Leveraging Semantic Graphs for Efficient and Robust LiDAR SLAM

Accurate and robust simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) is crucial for autonomous mobile systems, typically achieved by leveraging the geometric features of the environment. Incorporating semantics provides a richer scene representation that not only enhances localization accuracy in SLAM but also enables advanced cognitive functionalities for downstream navigation and planning tasks. Existing point-wise semantic LiDAR SLAM methods often suffer from poor efficiency and generalization, making them less robust in diverse real-world scenarios. In this paper, we propose a semantic graph-enhanced SLAM framework, named SG-SLAM, which effectively leverages the geometric, semantic, and topological characteristics inherent in environmental structures. The semantic graph serves as a fundamental component that facilitates critical functionalities of SLAM, including robust relocalization during odometry failures, accurate loop closing, and semantic graph map construction. Our method employs a dual-threaded architecture, with one thread dedicated to online odometry and relocalization, while the other handles loop closure, pose graph optimization, and map update. This design enables our method to operate in real time and generate globally consistent semantic graph maps and point cloud maps. We extensively evaluate our method across the KITTI, MulRAN, and Apollo datasets, and the results demonstrate its superiority compared to state-of-the-art methods. Our method has been released at https://github.com/nubot-nudt/SG-SLAM.

BEVDiffLoc: End-to-End LiDAR Global Localization in BEV View based on Diffusion Model

Localization is one of the core parts of modern robotics. Classic localization methods typically follow the retrieve-then-register paradigm, achieving remarkable success. Recently, the emergence of end-to-end localization approaches has offered distinct advantages, including a streamlined system architecture and the elimination of the need to store extensive map data. Although these methods have demonstrated promising results, current end-to-end localization approaches still face limitations in robustness and accuracy. Bird's-Eye-View (BEV) image is one of the most widely adopted data representations in autonomous driving. It significantly reduces data complexity while preserving spatial structure and scale consistency, making it an ideal representation for localization tasks. However, research on BEV-based end-to-end localization remains notably insufficient. To fill this gap, we propose BEVDiffLoc, a novel framework that formulates LiDAR localization as a conditional generation of poses. Leveraging the properties of BEV, we first introduce a specific data augmentation method to significantly enhance the diversity of input data. Then, the Maximum Feature Aggregation Module and Vision Transformer are employed to learn robust features while maintaining robustness against significant rotational view variations. Finally, we incorporate a diffusion model that iteratively refines the learned features to recover the absolute pose. Extensive experiments on the Oxford Radar RobotCar and NCLT datasets demonstrate that BEVDiffLoc outperforms the baseline methods. Our code is available at https://github.com/nubot-nudt/BEVDiffLoc.

FinGPT: Enhancing Sentiment-Based Stock Movement Prediction with Dissemination-Aware and Context-Enriched LLMs

Financial sentiment analysis is crucial for understanding the influence of news on stock prices. Recently, large language models (LLMs) have been widely adopted for this purpose due to their advanced text analysis capabilities. However, these models often only consider the news content itself, ignoring its dissemination, which hampers accurate prediction of short-term stock movements. Additionally, current methods often lack sufficient contextual data and explicit instructions in their prompts, limiting LLMs' ability to interpret news. In this paper, we propose a data-driven approach that enhances LLM-powered sentiment-based stock movement predictions by incorporating news dissemination breadth, contextual data, and explicit instructions. We cluster recent company-related news to assess its reach and influence, enriching prompts with more specific data and precise instructions. This data is used to construct an instruction tuning dataset to fine-tune an LLM for predicting short-term stock price movements. Our experimental results show that our approach improves prediction accuracy by 8\% compared to existing methods.

Enhancing Investment Analysis: Optimizing AI-Agent Collaboration in Financial Research

In recent years, the application of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in financial analysis and investment decision-making has gained significant attention. However, most existing approaches rely on single-agent systems, which fail to fully utilize the collaborative potential of multiple AI agents. In this paper, we propose a novel multi-agent collaboration system designed to enhance decision-making in financial investment research. The system incorporates agent groups with both configurable group sizes and collaboration structures to leverage the strengths of each agent group type. By utilizing a sub-optimal combination strategy, the system dynamically adapts to varying market conditions and investment scenarios, optimizing performance across different tasks. We focus on three sub-tasks: fundamentals, market sentiment, and risk analysis, by analyzing the 2023 SEC 10-K forms of 30 companies listed on the Dow Jones Index. Our findings reveal significant performance variations based on the configurations of AI agents for different tasks. The results demonstrate that our multi-agent collaboration system outperforms traditional single-agent models, offering improved accuracy, efficiency, and adaptability in complex financial environments. This study highlights the potential of multi-agent systems in transforming financial analysis and investment decision-making by integrating diverse analytical perspectives.

Heat transfer enhancement of N-Ga-Al semiconductors heterogeneous interfaces

Heat transfer enhancement of N-Ga-Al semiconductor heterostructure interfaces is critical for the heat dissipation in GaN-based electronic devices, while the effect of the AlxGa(1-x)N transition layer component concentration and thickness on the heat transfer mechanism at the GaN-AlN interface is unclear. In this paper, using molecular dynamics simulations based on machine learning potentials, the interfacial thermal conductance (ITC) between GaN-AlxGa(1-x)N, AlN-AlxGa(1-x)N and GaN-AlxGa(1-x)N-AlN heterostructure interfaces are calculated for different transition layer thicknesses with different concentrations of Al fractions, and the reasons for the change of ITC and its heat transfer mechanism were explained by the phonon density of states and the spectral heat current. GaN-AlN heterostructure ITC at 300 K is calculated to be 557 MW/(m2K), and the ITCs of GaN-Al0.5Ga0.5N and AlN-Al0.5Ga0.5N are improved by 128% and 229% compared to GaN-AlN, whereas the ITCs of GaN-Al0.7Ga0.3N-AlN containing a 0.5 nm transition layer improved by 27.6%. This is because elemental doping enhances phonon scattering near the interface thereby promoting phonon energy redistribution, but the bulk thermal resistance of the AlxGa(1-x)N layer also increases rapidly with increasing doping ratio, and ITC is affected by a combination of these two factors. This work aims to understand the mechanism of transition layer component concentration and thickness on the heat transfer at the GaN-AlN contact interface, which provides a useful guide for better thermal design of the GaN-AlN heterostructure interface.

Bulk-spatiotemporal vortex correspondence in gyromagnetic double-zero-index media

Photonic double-zero-index media, distinguished by concurrently zero-valued permittivity and permeability, exhibit extraordinary properties not found in nature. Remarkably, the notion of zero-index can be substantially expanded by generalizing the constitutive parameters from null scalars to nonreciprocal tensors with nonzero matrix elements but zero determinants. Here, we experimentally realize such a new class of gyromagnetic double-zero-index metamaterials possessing both double-zero-index features and nonreciprocal hallmarks. As an intrinsic property, this metamaterial always emerges at a spin-1/2 Dirac point of a topological phase transition. We discover and rigorously prove that a spatiotemporal reflection vortex singularity is always anchored to the metamaterial's Dirac point, with the vortex charge being determined by the topological invariant leap across the phase transition. This establishes a unique bulk-spatiotemporal vortex correspondence that extends the protected boundary effects into the time domain and exclusively characterizes topological phase transition points, setting it apart from any pre-existing bulk-boundary correspondence. Based on this correspondence, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a mechanism to deterministically generate optical spatiotemporal vortex pulses with firmly fixed central frequency and momentum, hence showing unparalleled robustness. Our findings uncover deep connections between zero-refractive-index photonics, topological photonics, and singular optics, opening the avenue for the manipulation of space-time topological light fields via the inherent topology of extreme-parameter metamaterials.

SGLC: Semantic Graph-Guided Coarse-Fine-Refine Full Loop Closing for LiDAR SLAM

Loop closing is a crucial component in SLAM that helps eliminate accumulated errors through two main steps: loop detection and loop pose correction. The first step determines whether loop closing should be performed, while the second estimates the 6-DoF pose to correct odometry drift. Current methods mostly focus on developing robust descriptors for loop closure detection, often neglecting loop pose estimation. A few methods that do include pose estimation either suffer from low accuracy or incur high computational costs. To tackle this problem, we introduce SGLC, a real-time semantic graph-guided full loop closing method, with robust loop closure detection and 6-DoF pose estimation capabilities. SGLC takes into account the distinct characteristics of foreground and background points. For foreground instances, it builds a semantic graph that not only abstracts point cloud representation for fast descriptor generation and matching but also guides the subsequent loop verification and initial pose estimation. Background points, meanwhile, are exploited to provide more geometric features for scan-wise descriptor construction and stable planar information for further pose refinement. Loop pose estimation employs a \mbox{coarse-fine-refine} registration scheme that considers the alignment of both instance points and background points, offering high efficiency and accuracy. Extensive experiments on multiple publicly available datasets demonstrate its superiority over state-of-the-art methods. Additionally, we integrate SGLC into a SLAM system, eliminating accumulated errors and improving overall SLAM performance. The implementation of SGLC will be released at https://github.com/nubot-nudt/SGLC.

Enhancing interfacial thermal transport by nanostructures: Monte Carlo simulations with ab initio phonon properties

Recent experiments have indicated that employing nanostructures can enhance interfacial heat transport, but the mechanism by which different structural morphologies and dimensions contribute to the full-spectrum phonon interfacial transport remains unclear. In this paper, a multiscale method to study the thermal transfer at nanostructured interfaces is developed by combining density functional calculation, Monte Carlo simulation, and diffuse mismatch method. The changes in the transport paths and contributions to thermal conductance of different frequency phonons caused by changes in nanostructure morphology and size are investigated. The results show that, compared to the triangular and trapezoidal nanostructures, the rectangular nanostructures are more beneficial in enhancing the probability of the reflected phonons encountering the interface, and thus the phonon interfacial transmittance. The nanostructure makes the interfacial heat flow extremely heterogeneous, with significant transverse heat flow occurring at the sidewalls, resulting in a new thermal conduction pathway. The phenomena of multiple reflections and double transmission together lead to the existence of the optimal dimension that maximizes the nanostructures enhancement effect on interfacial heat transfer. The optimal nanostructure width is 100 nm when the height is 100 nm and the maximum interfacial thermal conductance enhancement ratio is 1.31. These results can guide the design of heat transfer enhancement structures at the interface of the actual high-power chips.

SegNet4D: Efficient Instance-Aware 4D Semantic Segmentation for LiDAR Point Cloud

4D LiDAR semantic segmentation, also referred to as multi-scan semantic segmentation, plays a crucial role in enhancing the environmental understanding capabilities of autonomous vehicles or robots. It classifies the semantic category of each LiDAR measurement point and detects whether it is dynamic, a critical ability for tasks like obstacle avoidance and autonomous navigation. Existing approaches often rely on computationally heavy 4D convolutions or recursive networks, which result in poor real-time performance, making them unsuitable for online robotics and autonomous driving applications. In this paper, we introduce SegNet4D, a novel real-time 4D semantic segmentation network offering both efficiency and strong semantic understanding. SegNet4D addresses 4D segmentation as two tasks: single-scan semantic segmentation and moving object segmentation, each tackled by a separate network head. Both results are combined in a motion-semantic fusion module to achieve comprehensive 4D segmentation. Additionally, instance information is extracted from the current scan and exploited for instance-wise segmentation consistency. Our approach surpasses state-of-the-art in both multi-scan semantic segmentation and moving object segmentation while offering greater efficiency, enabling real-time operation. Besides, its effectiveness and efficiency have also been validated on a real-world unmanned ground platform. Our code will be released at https://github.com/nubot-nudt/SegNet4D.

Diffusion-Based Point Cloud Super-Resolution for mmWave Radar Data

The millimeter-wave radar sensor maintains stable performance under adverse environmental conditions, making it a promising solution for all-weather perception tasks, such as outdoor mobile robotics. However, the radar point clouds are relatively sparse and contain massive ghost points, which greatly limits the development of mmWave radar technology. In this paper, we propose a novel point cloud super-resolution approach for 3D mmWave radar data, named Radar-diffusion. Our approach employs the diffusion model defined by mean-reverting stochastic differential equations(SDE). Using our proposed new objective function with supervision from corresponding LiDAR point clouds, our approach efficiently handles radar ghost points and enhances the sparse mmWave radar point clouds to dense LiDAR-like point clouds. We evaluate our approach on two different datasets, and the experimental results show that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art baseline methods in 3D radar super-resolution tasks. Furthermore, we demonstrate that our enhanced radar point cloud is capable of downstream radar point-based registration tasks.

Kerker-Type Positional Disorder Immune Metasurfaces

Metasurfaces that can work without the rigorous periodic arrangement of meta-atoms are highly desired by practical optical micro-nano devices. In this work, we proposed two kinds of Kerker-type metasurfaces possessing positional disorder immunity. The metasurfaces are composed of two different core-shell cylinders satisfying the first and second Kerker conditions, respectively. Even with large positional disorder perturbation of the meta-atoms, the metasurfaces can still maintain the same excellent performances as periodic ones, such as the total transmission and magnetic mirror responses. This disorder immunity is due to the unidirectional forward and backward scatterings of a single core-shell cylinder leading to very weak lateral couplings between neighboring cylinders thus rarely affecting the multiple scatterings in the forward or backward direction. In contrast, the dominant response of the disordered non-Kerker-type metasurface decreases significantly. Our findings provide a new idea for designing robust metasurfaces and extend the scope of metasurface applications in sensing and communication under complex practical circumstances.

InsMOS: Instance-Aware Moving Object Segmentation in LiDAR Data

Identifying moving objects is a crucial capability for autonomous navigation, consistent map generation, and future trajectory prediction of objects. In this paper, we propose a novel network that addresses the challenge of segmenting moving objects in 3D LiDAR scans. Our approach not only predicts point-wise moving labels but also detects instance information of main traffic participants. Such a design helps determine which instances are actually moving and which ones are temporarily static in the current scene. Our method exploits a sequence of point clouds as input and quantifies them into 4D voxels. We use 4D sparse convolutions to extract motion features from the 4D voxels and inject them into the current scan. Then, we extract spatio-temporal features from the current scan for instance detection and feature fusion. Finally, we design an upsample fusion module to output point-wise labels by fusing the spatio-temporal features and predicted instance information. We evaluated our approach on the LiDAR-MOS benchmark based on SemanticKITTI and achieved better moving object segmentation performance compared to state-of-the-art methods, demonstrating the effectiveness of our approach in integrating instance information for moving object segmentation. Furthermore, our method shows superior performance on the Apollo dataset with a pre-trained model on SemanticKITTI, indicating that our method generalizes well in different scenes. The code and pre-trained models of our method will be released at https://github.com/nubot-nudt/InsMOS.
