Stars and Halos of Degenerate Relativistic Heavy-Neutrino and Neutralino Matter

Heavy-neutrino (or neutralino) stars are studied using the general relativistic equations of hydrostatic equilibrium and the relativistic equation of state for degenerate fermionic matter. The Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations are then generalized to include a system of degenerate neutrino and neutralino matter that is gravitationally coupled. The properties and implications of such an interacting astrophysical system are discussed in detail.

Free Energy of Gravitating Fermions

We study a system of self-gravitating massive fermions in the framework of the general-relativistic Thomas-Fermi model. We postulate the free energy functional and show that its extremization is equivalent to solving the Einstein's field equations. A self-gravitating fermion gas we then describe by a set of Thomas-Fermi type self-consistency equations.

Gravitational Phase Transition of Heavy Neutrino Matter

We study the phase transition of a system of self-gravitating neutrinos in the presence of a large radiation density background in the framework of the Thomas-Fermi model. We show that, by cooling a non-degenerate gas of massive neutrinos below some critical temperature, a condensed phase emerges, consisting of quasi-degenerate supermassive neutrino stars. These compact dark objects could play an important role in structure formation in this universe, as they might in fact provide the seeds for galactic nuclei and quasi-stellar objects.

Entropy per Baryon in Strong Coupling QCD

The entropy per baryon is studied in the strong coupling large dimension $d$ limit of lattice QCD with staggered fermions. The partition function is calculated for non-zero chemical potential and temperature using the $1/d$ expansion. It is found that the entropy per baryon ratio is almost continuous across the transition from the the quark-gluon to the hadronic phase. The relevance of these results for heavy ion collisions is discussed.

Supercooling of the quark-gluon plasma

Transition from the quark-gluon (QG) plasma to a hadronic gas is studied in the framework of the relativistic combustion theory. The calculations reveal that the QG phase must be in a strongly supercooled state. The stability of this solution with respect to minor modifications is investigated. In particular the effect of an admixture of hadronic matter in the QG phase is considered in detail.

Selected Topics on Rare Kaon Processes - in the Standard Model and Supergravity -

Rare kaon processes appear to be particularly suitable to study the extensions of the standard model, especially if the possibility for eventual direct evidence becomes unlikely. In this review, we discuss processes that are important as a test of either the standard model or supergravity. Moreover, some of these are important even for both the standard model and for supergravity. Particular attention is paid to the reduction of uncertainties in the calculation, especially the ones coming from the confinement effects. Recent approaches, such as chiral perturbation theory, the large $N_c$-expansion, QCD sum rules and lattice QCD, are discussed. This is found to be the best strategy in view of the fact that supersymmetric effects are rather tiny.
