MetaMorphQ: Physics-Based Metamorphic Testing of Variational Quantum Circuits

Variational Quantum Eigensolvers (VQEs) are central to quantum computing, yet testing them remains challenging due to the oracle problem: the ground-state energy they compute is itself unknown. Existing approaches, such as convergence-based testing, are unreliable and yield high false-positive rates due to optimisation instability. We propose METAMORPHQ, a metamorphic testing framework that derives test oracles directly from quantum mechanical properties of VQE circuits. Exploiting algebraic properties of parametrised rotation gates and diagonal Hamiltonians, we define five physics-based invariants that hold for any correct circuit and can be verified at initialisation without ground-truth outputs. Evaluated on 500 benchmark circuits with 2,469 mutants, METAMORPHQ achieves zero false positives and significantly improves diagnostic effectiveness (Youden's J = 0.57 vs. 0.02 for convergence testing). These results demonstrate that physics-derived invariants provide a practical, oracle-free foundation for testing quantum software, enabling reliable validation of both human- and LLM-generated circuits.

Orthonormal Spectral Cluster Bounds on Manifolds with Nonpositive Curvature

Let $(M,g)$ be a closed $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifold with nonpositive sectional curvature. We prove sharp, logarithmically improved spectral cluster bounds for orthonormal systems in the supercritical range. More precisely, for spectral windows of size $(\log λ)^{-1}$, we obtain the orthonormal analogue of the logarithmically improved $L^q$ estimates of Hassell-Tacy. Our argument combines the universal orthonormal spectral cluster bounds of Frank-Sabin with Bérard-type kernel estimates and a generalization of the Bourgain-Shao-Sogge-Yao multiplier estimate to the orthonormal setting.

BRIDG-Q: Barren-Plateau-Resilient Initialisation with Data-Aware LLM-Generated Quantum Circuits

Quantum circuit initialisation is a key bottleneck in variational quantum algorithms (VQAs), strongly impacting optimisation stability and convergence. Recent work shows that large language models (LLMs) can synthesise high-quality variational circuit architectures, but their continuous parameter predictions are unreliable. Conversely, data-driven initialisation methods such as BEINIT improve trainability via problem-adaptive priors, yet assume fixed ansatz templates and ignore generative circuit structure. We propose BRIDG-Q (Barren-Plateau-Resilient Initialisation with Data-Aware LLM-Generated Quantum Circuits), a neuro-symbolic pipeline that bridges this gap by coupling LLM-generated circuit architectures with empirical-Bayes parameter initialisation. BRIDG-Q uses AgentQ to generate problem-conditioned circuit topologies, removes generated parameters, and injects data-informed parameter initialisations to mitigate barren plateau effects. Evaluations on graph optimisation benchmarks using residual energy gap and convergence metrics show improved optimisation robustness, indicating that data-driven initialisation remains effective even for LLM-generated circuits, with oracle per-instance selection achieving approximately a 10% reduction in final residual energy.

Derivation of Hartree-Fock Dynamics and Semiclassical Commutator Estimates for Fermions in a Magnetic Field

We study the quantum dynamics of a large number of interacting fermionic particles in a constant magnetic field. In a coupled mean-field and semiclassical scaling limit, we show that solutions of the many-body Schrödinger equation converge to solutions of a non-linear Hartree-Fock equation. The central ingredient of the proof are certain semiclassical trace norm estimates of commutators of the position and momentum operators with the one-particle density matrix of the solution of the Hartree-Fock equation. In a first step, we prove their validity for non-interacting initial data in a magnetic field by generalizing a 2020 result of Fournais and Mikkelsen. We then propagate these bounds from the initial data along the Hartree-Fock flow to arbitrary times.

Weyl laws for interacting particles

We study grand-canonical interacting fermionic systems in the mean-field regime, in a trapping potential. We provide the first order term of integrated and pointwise Weyl laws, but in the case with interaction. More precisely, we prove the convergence of the densities of the grand-canonical Hartree-Fock ground state to the Thomas-Fermi ground state in the semiclassical limit $\hbar\to 0$. For the proof, we write the grand-canonical version of the results of Fournais, Lewin and Solovej (Calc. Var. Partial Differ. Equ., 2018) and of Conlon (Commun. Math. Phys., 1983).

Fermionic semiclassical Lp estimates

We generalize the semiclassical Lp estimates of Koch, Tataru and Zworski in the setting of Schr{ö}dinger operators with confining potentials to density matrices. This is motivated by the problem of the concentration of free fermionic particles in a trapping potential. Our proof relies on semiclassical and many-body tools. As an application, we provide bounds on spectral clusters. We also discuss the optimality of the one-body and many-body bounds through explicit examples of quasimodes.
