Topological transitivity of group cellular automata is decidable

Topological transitivity is a fundamental notion in topological dynamics and is widely regarded as a basic indicator of global dynamical complexity. For general cellular automata, topological transitivity is known to be undecidable. By contrast, positive decidability results have been established for one-dimensional group cellular automata over abelian groups, while the extension to higher dimensions and to non-abelian groups has remained an open problem. In this work, we settle this problem by proving that topological transitivity is decidable for the class of $d$-dimensional ($d\geq 1$) group cellular automata over arbitrary finite groups. Our approach combines a decomposition technique for group cellular automata, reducing the problem to the analysis of simpler components, with an extension of several results from the existing literature in the one-dimensional setting. As a consequence of our results, and exploiting known equivalences among dynamical properties for group cellular automata, we also obtain the decidability of several related notions, including total transitivity, topological mixing and weak mixing, weak and strong ergodic mixing, and ergodicity.

Hertzsprung patterns on involutions

Hertzsprung patterns, recently introduced by Anders Claesson, are subsequences of a permutation contiguous in both positions and values, and can be seen as a subclass of bivincular patterns. This paper investigates Hertzsprung patterns within involutions, where additional structural constraints introduce new challenges. We present a general formula for enumerating occurrences of these patterns in involutions. We also analyze specific cases to derive the distribution of all Hertzsprung patterns of lengths two and three.

Groups generated by pattern avoiding permutations

We study groups generated by sets of pattern avoiding permutations. In the first part of the paper we prove some general results concerning the structure of such groups. In the second part we carry out a case-by-case analysis of groups generated by permutations avoiding few short patterns.

On the number of fixed points of the map $γ$

We recursively define a sequence $\{F_{n,k}\}_{n,k\in\mathbb N }$ and we prove that such sequence contains only the symbols $\{0,1\}.$ We investigate some number-theoretic properties of such sequence and of the way it can be generated. The number $F_n$ can be interpreted as the number of fixed points of semilength $n$ of the map $γ$ introduced by Barnabei et al. Our results partially answer conjectures posed by Cori et al.

Pattern avoiding alternating involutions

We enumerate and characterize some classes of alternating and reverse alternating involutions avoiding a single pattern of length three or four. If on one hand the case of patterns of length three is trivial, on the other hand, the length four case is more challenging and involves sequences of combinatorial interest, such as Motzkin and Fibonacci numbers.
