A Survey of Open Source Automation Tools for Data Science Predictions

We present an expository overview of technical and cultural challenges to the development and adoption of automation at various stages in the data science prediction lifecycle, restricting focus to supervised learning with structured datasets. In addition, we review popular open source Python tools implementing common solution patterns for the automation challenges and highlight gaps where we feel progress still demands to be made.

Current Density Impedance Imaging of an Anisotropic Conductivity in a Known Conformal Class

We present a procedure for recovering the conformal factor of an anisotropic conductivity matrix in a known conformal class in a domain in Euclidean space of dimension greater than or equal to 2. The method requires one internal measurement, together with a priori knowledge of the conformal class (local orientation) of the conductivity matrix. This problem arises in the coupled-physics medical imaging modality of Current Density Impedance Imaging (CDII) and the assumptions on the data are suitable for measurements determinable from cross-property based couplings of the two imaging modalities CDII and Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI). We show that the corresponding electric potential is the unique solution of a constrained minimization problem with respect to a weighted total variation functional defined in terms of the physical data. Further, we show that the associated equipotential surfaces are area minimizing with respect to a Riemannian metric obtained from the data. The results are also extended to allow the presence of perfectly conducting and/or insulating inclusions.

Ray Transforms and Vector Fields

We review and extend a technique for recovering a smooth function from its averages over a wide class of curves in a general region of Euclidean space. The method is based on complexification of the underlying vector fields defining the transport and recasting the problem in terms of complex-analytic function theory. Conditions on the validity of prior formulae appearing in a previous paper as well as stability estimates are then discussed first for the case of vector fields with polynomial coefficients and later for more general cases.

The Inversion of Ray Transforms on a Conformal Class of Curves

We introduce a technique for recovering a sufficiently smooth function from its ray transform over a wide class of curves in a general region of Euclidean space. The method is based on a complexification of the underlying vector fields defining the initial transport and recasting the problem in terms of complex-analytic function theory. Explicit inversion formulae are then given in a unified form. The method is then used to give inversion formulae for the attenuated ray transform.
