We study the rare decays of the $B_c$ meson induced by the flavour changing neutral current $c \to u γ$ transition. In the Standard Model they are strongly suppressed by the Glashow-Iliopoulos-Maiani mechanism, therefore they are sensitive to new physics. The difficulty is to get rid of long-distance contributions. We study such effects in radiative $B_c$ transitions both to $B^*$ and to the axial-vector $B_1^{\prime}$ meson.
The Belle Collaboration has measured the complete set of angular coefficient functions for the decays ${\bar B} \to D^*\,(D\,π)\,\ell\,{\bar ν}_{\ell}$, where $\ell = e,\,μ$, in four bins of the variable $w={m_B^2+m_{D^*}^2-q^2 \over 2\, m_B\, m_{D^*}}$, with $q$ the momentum of the lepton pair. In SM this measurement is instrumental in determining the hadronic form factors in the $B \to D^*$ matrix elements of the SM weak current, thereby refining the measurement of $\lvert V_{cb} \lvert$. On the other hand, it can be used to assess the impact of possible new physics contributions. I consider an extension of the SM effective Hamiltonian that governs this mode, incorporating the complete set of Lorentz invariant $d = 6$ operators compatible with the gauge symmetry of the theory. The measured angular coefficient functions play a pivotal role in constraining the couplings in the generalized effective Hamiltonian.
We study the constraints on low-energy coefficients of the $ν$SMEFT generalization of the Standard Model effective theory in the simple case of a $\text{U}(1)^\prime$ enlargement of the Standard Model gauge group. In particular, we analyse the constraints imposed by the requirement that the extended theory remains free of gauge anomalies. We present the cases of explicit realisations, showing the obtained correlations among the coefficients of $d=6$ operators.
The Belle Collaboration has recently measured the complete set of angular coefficient functions for the exclusive decays $\bar B \to D^* (D π) \ell \bar ν_\ell$, with $\ell=e,\,μ$, in four bins of the parameter $w=\displaystyle\frac{m_B^2+m_{D^*}^2-q^2}{2m_B m_{D^*}}$, with $q$ the lepton pair momentum. Under the assumption that physics beyond the Standard Model does not contribute to such modes, the measurements are useful to determine the hadronic form factors describing the $B \to D^*$ matrix elements of the Standard Model weak current, and to improve the determination of $|V_{cb}|$. On the other hand, they can be used to assess the impact of possible new physics contributions. In a bottom-up approach, we extend the Standard Model effective Hamiltonian governing this mode with the inclusion of the full set of Lorentz invariant d=6 operators compatible with the gauge symmetry of the theory. The measured angular coefficient functions can tightly constrain the couplings in the generalized Hamiltonian. We present the first results of this analysis, discussing how improvements can be achieved when more complete data on the angular coefficient functions will be available.
We present a short overview of the so-called flavour anomalies, discussing their significance and the connections with QCD issues discussed at the HADRON 2023 conference.
We present recent results in semileptonic and non-leptonic exclusive $B_c$ decays to charmonium states both in $S$-wave, $J/ψ$ and $η_c$, and in $P$-wave, $χ_{cJ}$ and $h_c$. The analysis, based on the heavy quark spin symmetry (HQSS), produces relations among form factors that parametrize the hadronic matrix elements in the amplitudes of the decays. These relations are helpful to control the hadronic uncertainty affecting these processes. Furthermore, $B_c$ decays allow us to get hints on the structure of states like $χ_{c1}(3872)$, whose exotic or ordinary charmonium nature is debated.
The Dalitz decays of the positive parity $D_{sJ}^{(*)}$ charmed mesons, $D_{sJ}^{(*)} \to D_s^{(*)} \ell^+ \ell^-$ with $J=0,1,2$ and $\ell=e, μ$, are important processes to investigate the nature of the $D_{sJ}^{(*)}$ states. We analyze the full set of decays, considering the four lightest $D_{sJ}^{(*)}$ mesons as belonging to the heavy quark spin doublets $\displaystyle s_\ell^P=\frac{1}{2}^+$ and $\displaystyle \frac{3}{2}^+$, with $s_\ell^P$ the spin-parity of the light degrees of freedom in mesons. The description implies relations among the observables in various modes. We study the decay distributions in the dilepton invariant mass squared and the distributions in the angle between the charged lepton momentum and the momentum of the produced meson, which are expressed in terms of universal form factors and of effective strong couplings. Such measurements are feasible at the present facilities.
Nonleptonic $B_c$ decays to $P$-wave charmonia and light $π^+$, $K^+$, and $ρ^+$, $K^{*+}$ mesons are analysed using factorization. The hadronic form factors parametrizing the $B_c \to χ_{cJ}(h_c)$ matrix elements are expressed in terms of universal functions at the leading order of an expansion in the relative velocity of the heavy quarks in the $B_c$ rest-frame and in $1/m_Q$. Several ratios of branching fractions are evaluated, and when experimental information can be used, single branching fractions are presented. Both the $1P$ and $2P$ charmonia are considered. If the exotic candidate state $χ_{c1}(3872)$ corresponds to $χ_{c1}(2P)$, it should be produced in nonleptonic $B_c$ decays with predicted abundances with respect to the other states in the charmonium $2P$ spin four-plet.
We study the effects of a magnetic field on the chaotic dynamics of a string with endpoints on the boundary of an asymptotically AdS$_5$ space with black hole. We study Poincaré sections and compute the Lyapunov exponents for the string perturbed from the static configuration, for two different orientations, with position of the endpoints on the boundary orthogonal and parallel to the magnetic field. We find that the magnetic field stabilizes the string dynamics, with the largest Lyapunov exponent remaining below the Maldacena-Shenker-Stanford bound.
